  1. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 11:15 AM) Did you go to the 2009 game? Yup. Hester caught a slant up the middle and took it to the house for the victory. That season started so well. *sigh*
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) The two 4-game series in Toronto and Baltimore really stand out as huge to me. We gotta take of care of business in Toronto--like 3 of 4. Too many bad years up there recently. Especially considering how banged up they are. On offense, Lawrie, Arencibia, Bautista, & Lind are all on the DL. And they have about 5 starters & two relievers injured too.
  3. Brett Lawrie to the 15-day DL with an oblique injury. The amount of injuries Toronto has suffered is absolutely ridiculous. Good news for the Sox though, as they head across the border for 4 games next week. Bautista won't be back by then either.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) Tiggers and Yank-me's are a day game, at least there is something to keep track of. 12:05 start, should be a good pitching matchup, Kuroda vs. Fister. Fister's last 5 starts: 4-1, 39 IP, 37 K, 1.62 ERA Kuroda's last 4 starts: 2-1, 28.1 IP, 22 K, 1.27 ERA
  5. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 09:50 AM) I usually get pretty excited for the first preseason game, but by the second i'm done. I can only watch 5th string players play so much. I'd be more excited if I wasn't forced to buy full price tickets for both games. On StubHub, they go for less than 50% face because it's such a hot ticket. Donated tonight's tickets to charity for the tax write off. Even Packers tickets are super cheap on StubHub.
  6. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) The 49ers will be 12-4. They will face the Texans in the Superbowl. I have a feeling you will be one disappointed football fan come winter. Given their weak division, the 49ers may host a playoff game, but I think they will be more in the range of 8 or 9 wins.
  7. Women's soccer sure as hell doesn't lack for the dramatics. France dominates Canada for 90+ minutes, but Canada scores in the 92nd minute to get the bronze medal with a 1-0 win.
  8. Orioles are going for it, they call up top prospect Manny Machado to play 3rd. I'm no expert on prospects, sounds like the kid has tons of talent, but might not be ready for the majors quite yet.
  9. Has Jarrod Dyson now replaced Jeff Samardzija at the top of greg's "must bean him in the face" list?
  10. Watched the last few episodes of Breaking Bad season 4 last night. Holy hell, I am still speechless.
  11. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 06:03 PM) Mark Kotsay sighting. I was 100% sure he retired. I wish he was on our bench now.
  12. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 03:40 PM) Now if PK is hurt it's fine. But Rios is the team MVP, without him they might not have enough to win... Rios is out with back stiffness

  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 03:01 PM) Looks like Detroit is handling the Yankees while the Sox struggle with the 4th place team in their division. That's the Sox 2nd half MO. What? So far in the 2nd half, the Sox have gone 5-1 against the 4th place Central team and 3-2 against the 5th place team.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) Consecutie? Is that someone that is the opposite of cute? Or someone that Jose Canseco thinks is cute? Haha. Give him a break on the spelling, he's from Colombia.
  16. No game thread yet??? Has everybody given up after one loss to Cy Chen?? Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor??? Pitching for the Sox tonight, the rested, new, and improved Jose Quintana: vs. this f***ing guy for KC:
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) That would make a very interesting lineup, for sure! My theory is that I want B and F at the top of the lineup because they walk a lot and I need good hitters behind them to drive them in. I want C right after those two because he's hitting well enough to drive them in but also walks enough that he still needs good hitters behind them. I want D and E after C because they are going to drive in the runs and they won't have many wasted walks with no more good hitters behind them. As for A, I can live with batting him first to have another decent OBP guy on base for my best hitters but I can also justify batting him sixth so my five best hitters all get more plate appearances. So I would do A-B-F-C-D-E or B-F-C-D-E-A I got torn with where to put A. Not a lot of walks or power relatively. I prefer more power out of the 6 spot, but more OBP in the 2 spot. I like B leading off, walks a lot, and you aren't wasting a high SLG with no baserunners. F-D-E are very solid in the 3-4-5 spots IMO.
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) Assume that you have these six guys to place 1-6 in your lineup. In which order would you put them? Player A: 4th in BB/PA, 6th in SLG Player B: 1st in BB/PA, 5th in SLG Player C: 3rd in BB/PA, 4th in SLG Player D: 5th in BB/PA, 1st in SLG Player E: 6th in BB/PA, 2nd in SLG Player F: 2nd in BB/PA, 3rd in SLG B A F D E C
  19. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 12:25 PM) The 4th quarter of that Spain/France game was awful. France scored 6 points in the quarter! Neither team deserves a medal after that s*** show. How about the nut shot by Nic Batum? OUCH!!
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 07:05 AM) On today's slate (local time): Men's Volleyball QF USA vs Italy 4pm Major choke job by the men, they gawn.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 10:28 AM) I think this is a good letter-to-the-editor illustrating the differences in mindset between the US and other cultures: http://www.calgaryherald.com/opinion/lette...0028/story.html http://www.calgaryherald.com/opinion/colum...4368/story.html That cop from Kalamazoo is a f***ing moron.
  22. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 10:19 AM) Urlacher is done.. Sheamus Mclellin, your table is ready, if you can learn to play MLB. It's becoming more & more obvious that's why they drafted him. They hope he can do a little damage as rusher this year, but he is the heir apparent to Urlacher in the middle.
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 01:15 AM) Has anyone ever hit for the True Outcome Triple Crown? I think Dunn still leads all categories for it. I don't have the full list, but I know Mike Schmidt, Mickey Mantle, & Babe Ruth have all done it.
  24. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 10:32 PM) Illinois playing Washington at Soldier Field in 2013. Love it. Awesome. The new AD is all about Chicago. Hopefully this game is not a disaster like I heard the first Soldier Field game vs. Wazzu was.
