  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) I'd prefer to go for Dempster, who for 2.5 months won't cost a ton in prospects, and the Sox could even get some money back against his remaining salary (which would be around $6M for the rest of the year). He would also probably be happy to stay in town. The biggest factor on Volquez is, does Cooper think he's fixable. From what I heard, I thought Theo didn't care about the salary and only wanted back the best prospects they could get. They'd be very willing to pay almost all of Dempster's salary, at the right cost of talent. They aren't worried about cutting salary, they are only looking at increasing the talent for the future.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 03:19 PM) The two biggest mistakes they made at USCF were not making a street level entrance at the top of the 100 level, instead of the bottom, and not having the Chicago skyline visible in the open outfield. Meh. I was always a fan of the Robert Taylor skyline they had until 2007.
  3. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 02:38 PM) Looking at his numbers, his only glaring issue is walks, and Cooper has a history of getting guys to throw strikes. I think he sounds like a pretty good project for Coop. This guy has #2 potential, he just hasn't seen it since 2008. As for the innings thing, he pitched 196 in 2008, 50 in 2009, 100 in 2010, 196 in 2011, and is on pace for 190+ this season. He missed those innings in 2009 and 2010 because he had TJS. Can Coop fix him this year when we need him? He could be a great project for the future, but we are in a race now. I missed his minor league innings in 2010/2011, so nevermind the comment about not pitching that many innings.
  4. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 03:06 PM) Why??? I just don't think he's that good. He has had one good year. His numbers this year are better, but his ERA is still over 4 away from PETCO, and that's in the NL.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) I would say Volquez is a solid #3-4 type starter. That's quality to me. I think he's way closer to a #5 IMO. Since his All-Star 2008 season, he has not been anything special, and he doesn't have a history of pitching a lot of innings.
  6. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) If its Reed and a low level prospect for Street and Volquez, just might make that trade. We get experience in the closer spot and a quality starter. Experience doesn't always mean better. And Street is injury-prone. And calling Volquez a "quality" starter is a bit of a stretch.
  7. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 02:09 PM) I bet the Padres will asked for Reed. Which would serve the same purpose as trading Q. No need to trade a closer to get a closer.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) It really sucks to have to save to get good box seats at a baseball game. Baseball should be ashamed. It was a sport meant to be affordable. What does that even mean? Was Alexander Cartwright thinking 150 years ago, "I wish there was a game that was affordable for Americans to attend".
  9. Nothing worse than being issued a replacement credit card and having to change the number on ALL of your Auto-pay accounts. #firstworldproblems
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 01:05 PM) No way do you give up Viciedo for what's likely to be 2 months worth of starts. You use someone like Jared Mitchell and others for a mid-level guy, or if you go after a lower-level caliber starter, you could get him by giving up someone like Petricka or Rienzo. In my opinion, Humber has got to get another chance to prove he has anything left. Unfortunately I think you are right about this. At least give him 2-3 starts, although it's fairly certain he will get rocked at Fenway if that's where he comes back Tuesday.
  11. Nike to remove Joe Paterno's fame from the child care center at their HQ:
  12. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 11:33 AM) If you're over 21, get an upper deck seat, and get the bullpen bar seats. How early do you have to get there to get a good seat?
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 12:50 AM) You all believe ... • Ozzie should have benched Heath Bell by now. Give me a break. You ever blame the guy throwing the f***ing baseball? He was acquired for BIG BUCKS and HAS TO BE the Marlins' closer. Ozzie has done what all managers do; replace him for a game or so. But Bell is earning mega millions. He is one of their big offseason acquisitions. He plays. Check out what the Brewers are paying K-Rod to pitch the 8th & John Axford to pitch the 9th.
  14. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 09:13 PM) f*** yeah. Doritos scores high on the creativity scale with some of the flavors they have thought up.
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 10:34 AM) Anyone still want to defend Paterno? Here is his family's attempt at defending him:
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 10:13 AM) Do some Illini fans blame the refs for this? I kid cuz I care. I blame Eric Gordon
  17. The Twitterverse is saying that Matt Millen is on ESPN saying that the Freeh report is just "one man's opinion".
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 09:24 AM) I actually work in the IT department, but our HR department is terrible yet they have been ranked very high. From what I have seen and heard here, the HR department does not only not help most people, but actually hinders them in their work. For example, 95% of the teams in the IT department have some sort of level system for job titles, so you see something like Business Systems Analyst II. The number system fluctuates a bit, but the principal is the same. On my team, we have 1 title, and it's a Senior Engineer title, so even though I am fresh out of school I have the same title as someone with 20 years of experience. My manager and his manager have requested HR to fix this, and proposed multiple fixes yet HR either won't do it, or forgets to do it. I just see problems from them everyday, and really wonder what they are thinking when they make the choices they do. What are you gonna do, fire them? They are HR, they will fire you.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 09:05 AM) I'm sticking with my Tigers win, Sox finish second, Cleveland sucks, prediction. Same here
  20. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 08:32 AM) I'd rather not get pointlessly strung along and given false hope than get a courtesy mention in his top 10. If it obviously wasn't going to happen I'd rather know now, as I'm sure the staff would as well. That's a good point. I always figured it was a pipe dream to get him anyway, this way Groce doesn't have to waste his time recruiting someone he can't get. It just shows how far Illinois has fallen though, if the top player in the state doesn't even have them in the top 10.
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 08:22 AM) Sounds like Illinois would be in the conversation if Weber was still there. Oh well. No more Weber >>>>>>>> one year of Jabari
