  1. LOL. Way to add to the Royals fans misery Melky. Tell me again, has J. Sanchez been any good this year?
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 08:15 PM) Also, the Sox rolled into the '06 break looking like they'd be a dynasty. Past years mean nothing ultimately. They aren't making a mega-run. True. It's nice that they just had a ridiculously easy homestand as compared to the Sox and ended up losing a half-game. Their schedule the next two months isn't easy.
  3. The Total Recall trailer I just saw makes me less excited to see it.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) Last year that a semblance of defense and pitching though, right? Very true. It just doesn't seem like the same team, but I saw that stat today which made me a tad bit worried.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 08:08 PM) So, the Tigers gonna make that great run, right? They are 44-42. Last year at this point they were 45-41.
  6. Four days without fantasy baseball! I think I'm going crazy!
  7. Ozzie going with the dreaded closer-by-committie. Maybe the closer formerly known as Leo Nunez can save the day.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 07:44 PM) I love seeing Verlander get beat up. Hopefully it is an omen for the second half. I hope so. The one time he is pitching to help the White Sox he gets rocked, WTF?
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 06:29 PM) http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/814725...ic-run-futility Good story about how KC is struggling with a low-budget/prospect model. (Article does note that it can all turn around next year, but dealing with the here and now). Interesting article on the greatest farm system in the history of baseball. Pretty cool White Sox tidbit:
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) Plus for the games played in the NL stadium, the fans of the NL team will get to see the DH on the AL team play (which is a plus if said DH is a star). I like the idea. On a sidenote, despite being a fan of the AL, I prefer the rules of the NL (pitcher hitting). I would prefer the NL rules if the pitchers weren't so goddamn awful at hitting. If they could just be .200 hitters, it would make it so much better. But the game slows down when the 8-9 spot comes up, and it's just way too easy of an out.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 11:31 AM) It ended up just being the capacitor. New capacitor, starter, and $420 later... all fixed and cold air blows again! I had the exact same problem at my rental condo last year. They replaced the capacitor, added an extra starter one, and everything worked again. Now as soon as the heat started this summer, the f***ing A/C is stuggling again and can't get below 80. Having them come back out on Saturday, it better not be the same thing.
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 12:50 AM) LOL. Hey good to see our girl Radwanska at least put up a solid fight btw. Yeah, cold or not, she would have had a tough time beating Serena, but still forced a 3rd set. Heck of a tournament and up to #2 in the world.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 01:11 PM) And the Rays are currently 0.5 games ahead of Cleveland in the Wild Card hunt (and a lot farther from their division lead). The only thing that would make the Rays a more legit playoff contender than Cleveland is that they were there more recently. That's the big issue when comparing attendance between the two teams. Tampa has 3 playoff appearances in 4 years, but has never cracked 23.5k average in a season since their inagural year. Cleveland used to have the best attendance in baseball, but bad teams & front office moves have turned the fanbase away. One city has shown that they can & will support a team, while the other city hasn't shown that despite great team success.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) Yeah, they need a nice ballpark like Cleveland, so that when they have a team 3 games out of the lead in their division, they won't be 29th in MLB in attendance. Cleveland set a sell-out record when their team was a WS contender every year. Then they majorly dropped payroll, lost many star players, and have only been to the playoffs once in 11 seasons, which has really alienated their fanbase. And I bet most fans think this team is not a legit playoff contender, just like last year's team wasn't.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 12:34 PM) Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan Going to discuss the possibility of NL/DH and AL/pitchers hitting with Joe Torre this offseason. That makes chances of it happening good. Bud Selig says he likes the idea of using the DH in NL parks and the pitcher hitting in AL parks during interleague games. That's one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Go away Bud Selig.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 12:30 PM) paul hoynes ‏@hoynsie Weiner says there is a possibility of in-season blood testing as soon 2013. Now testing done in ST and random offseason testing. Somewhere in Kansas City, Jose Bautista just felt a sudden chill down his spine
  17. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 11:44 AM) To me, a superstar is someone who non-NBA fans know. Their name is known in Asia, in the Middle East, in Europe and in South America. They're bigger than the NBA. Guys like Durant and Griffin are great players but they're not bigger than the NBA, they're not household names. So you consider Kris Humphries a superstar?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 10:50 AM) Comparing apples to apples makes more sense than comparing someone flipping burgers to someone playing MLB, no? Agreed, as I said earlier: QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 07:01 AM) The comparison to everyday jobs doesn't work because if you worked that horribly in a normal job, your ass would be in the unemployment line by mid-May. (unless you work for the government)
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 10:53 AM) So the cheapest single game ticket for a Bears game this year is going to be $101. And I'm sure what's left will sell out in an instant. It does make me appreciate my $76 tickets.
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) Or maybe it explains some of his slumps. It could be that when his son's condition worsens he becomes concerned for his health and he loses a little focus. Hitting a baseball is hard enough in perfect conditions. When you are worried about the health of a child and complete focus is near impossible it becomes really tough. Many people are saying that in the real world people get fired for performing so poorly. These are usually the people at the bottom. There are many CEOs like Dunn that are paid more than him and have had many more years of poor performance lately that continue to get bonuses more than Dunn's salary. Boo all you want to feel that you have some control or say with the team but don't discount the effect that a sick child can have on anyone's concentration at work. Good point. 0.05% of the workforce is allowed to work as horribly as Dunn did and keep their high-paying jobs, so it's OK then.
  21. If I told you in March that... -the Sox starters before/after the AS break would be Dylan Axelrod & Jose Quintana -Axelrod would be relieved in that game by Omogrosso, Septimo, Jones, & Santiago -Dunn was hitting .208 -KW picked up two old, "washed-up" veterans to play 3B -two of the Sox original starters have ERAs upward of 5.70 How many of you would have the Sox in 1st place at this point? Amazing.
  22. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) I'm a born and raised Jayhawk, but I understand the Mizzou fans booing Self. If a Mizzou coach were ever good enough to be selected to such an event, I'd boo him, and I expect a lot of people around here would. BURN!
  23. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 06:22 AM) I really like the American League BP Jersey's on MLB.com, would it be stupid to get one with Sale's name on it? I know he isn't a hitter, but it's an awesome looking jersey and I wanted to get a Sale jersey, thoughts? Don't pitchers get BP jerseys to hang out in during warmups too? Either way, who cares, go for it.
  24. Adam Dunn was paid $12 million last year to put up one of the worst performances EVER. People searched the annals of MLB and were hard pressed to find anyone who performed worse. $12 million is more than double or triple what the average fan makes in their entire lives. And these same fans were forced to pay the 5th highest ticket price in baseball to watch him perform that badly. I feel bad for him & his family and hope everything works out, but to say fans should now be ashamed of booing him is ridiculous. The comparison to everyday jobs doesn't work because if you worked that horribly in a normal job, your ass would be in the unemployment line by mid-May. (unless you work for the government) And a side note from this story, dogs are so awesome.
