  1. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 08:28 AM) Just to play devils advocate, and I'm not a Guillen fan, especially with the stuff that he pulled in his last few years here, but is this not what K.W. did in Ozzies first season or 2 here? Was not most of the moves between 2004 - 2005 along the lines of transforming from a power laden, slow team to the more versatile, faster, pitching / defense type team which we won a World Series with. That was what Ozzie wanted, albeit he didn't get the speedy, slap hitting leadoff hitter (Pierre) that he wanted until later. We all know how this turned out in later years and I hope that K.W. & R.V. are truly on the same page here. IF, and I mean (wish) IF we win another World Series this year or next, let's hope that another ego battle does not ensue as to who gets most of the credit for it, and we're back infighting with different agendas again. Silly me, I know that K.W.'s ego would never allow that to happen. One of the greatest urban myths in Sox history. Other than Podsednik, that was still a power laden team. They hit 200 homeruns, and the majority of the playoff games were by timely home run hitting.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 07:49 AM) Didn't Theo win a championship in 2007 or 2008? Maybe their records are identical, but let's not compare KW to Theo. I would've been extremely happy if he took over for the Sox like he did for the Cubs. No. They waited until 2 days ago to prevent losing a year. The cut off was June 24 or something, I believe. Yeah, they won in 2007, that's why he said SINCE 2007. With the second highest payroll in baseball, the BoSox have sat at home the last two postseasons and didn't win a playoff game the season before that. People aren't saying that it was an awful hire, but when the Cubs have already been crowned 2016-2018 WS champions, people are questioning the ridiculous hype.
  3. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 06:05 PM) Hudson is going to need tommy john, and was completely useless this year. this trade wasnt as bad as we thought... That's why KW traded him...
  4. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 09:04 PM) I remember when he swept the Yankees in the Bronx in 2000. Gotta love that one game where we scored 17 runs, 12 in the first two innings. That seven-game road sweep in NY & Cleveland is probably my favorite pre-2005 Sox moment.
  5. Is there any talk to rid soccer of penalty shootouts? Deciding major championships on penalty kicks is just absolutely ridiculous. And it also encourages team to not attack at all, because their odds may be better in the shootout, which makes for awful soccer.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 02:01 PM) I'd love some rain. Scared to see my water bill for the past month
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) 36-19 are the Angels since he was called up. That, my friends, is called impact. Legitimate MVP candidate at the age of 20
  8. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 09:52 AM) For a program that has struggled immensely with the city of Chicago and all that comes with it, can't help but feel good and pumped going forward after reading this: http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/colleges/p...hire-for-illini Wow. That's the first positive thing I've read about the future of Illinois basketball in years. Thank you.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 03:51 PM) South Side Sox ‏@SouthSideSox Technical term is designated for assignment. Ohman told teammates Sox "crapped on his heart." They should also crap on the $4 million you are being paid for 2011/2012. Remember, you still get that either way.
  10. I've never seen anyone pitch that bad with a WHIP as low as 1.05. That deserves some praise Will.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 05:19 PM) RAAAAAAAAANDY WILLIAMS LOL. Wasn't Donnie Veal a top prospect for someone a while back?
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 02:39 PM) Pettitte out for a minimum of six weeks. Fractured left ankle, will wear a boot, no surgery. Changes the trade market dramatically. Theo just got a semi. Yankees have to like Garza's experience in that AL East gauntlet
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) Hometown official scorer wants to give Babe Ruth Jr. some more confidence, duh. Same thing happened on his 1st at-bat. It was hit hard, but I think the SS could have snatched it. Hometown scorer rules it a hit, not an error
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) How many would ditch Rios TODAY if we could get rid of his entire contract? Man. Interesting decisions for KW this next month. There's just no way they could trade Peavy, Rios or Dunn. Not with Youkilis now on board. And there's not a RF replacement in sight, unless they brought back CQ, haha. Dude. They are in first place by at least 1.5 games, maybe 2.5. Can we please stop with the trade away contracts stuff for now? At least wait until Detroit gets hot or something.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 02:04 PM) Rehab assignment. DFA. Kosuke is a FA now.
  16. Today's leadoff hitter for the Chicago Cubs: Joseph Paul Mather
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) Yankees get a 2-run double from Chavez to take a 2-1 lead in the 4th. Pettitte leaving in the 5th after a ball hits him in the ankle
  18. Adam Dunn says "f*** you Soxtalk, stop worrying about me!"
  19. how tough was the diving catch Danks just made?
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 10:55 AM) A playoff system is on it's way... and I already dont like it. Sorry, 4 teams decided by a committee doesnt sit right with me. BCS Presidential Oversight Committee approves four-team playoff I'm sure within the first year or two, there will be a huge outcry that the #5 team got screwed, and the calls for an 8-team playoff will begin.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 11:32 AM) Already mentioned in today's game thread, but I guess it also belongs here. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/...l-muscle-strain Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst Before this DL stint, Sabathia hadn't missed a start since April '06. Only other starters who could say that: Haren, Cain, Arroyo, Buehrle
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 09:49 AM) I think this calls for a patented Soxtalk freak-the-f*** out session about sunday lineups and ruining batters mindsets forever and ever and stuff WTF is Robin doing? Danks, Escobar, & Hudson in one lineup? It's Wednesday not Sunday! Just throwing away a game because his players are tired? Awful!!!
  23. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) Wow. That explains all the lefties in the lineup today. My stats were a bit off (hence the deletion), the slugging % is actually much worse, LOL. WHarris's post has the right stats.
  24. ADA cf Escobar 3b Youk 1b Dunn dh Rios rf AJP c Alexei ss Danks lf Hudson 2b
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 12:15 AM) Bell is horrible. That is not Ozzie's fault. I don't even know how many WS titles Weaver and Tommy won, but arguably Oz is already better than those two because he led the Chicago White Sox to a WS title. Do you realize Chicago teams DO NOT win WS titles? And guess who led them to one?? Ozzie. Before Ozzie? I don't even know who our manager was in 1917 or whenever we won one. If you think heath Bell is good, then bless you. Heath is a trainwreck and he's not Ozzie's fault. Pants Rowland is shedding a tear in his grave as he realizes that long time Sox fans no longer remember him.
