  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2012 -> 07:48 PM) Dotel is in. Time to bash one of my least favorite Sox of all time. Why you gotta hate Dotel?
  2. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 4, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) Hawk just said he was 100 percent behind the move. If you looked closely you could see The Chairman pulling the strings. Is it true that Hawk said "It's easier to find a starter than a closer"? That statement is just wrong on so many levels.
  3. QUOTE (The Critic @ May 4, 2012 -> 07:15 PM) Of the teams left in the running, I like them the most. Since they got rid of that idiot Payne they learned how to harness their physical play into a good system. I haven't been watching them, though. I've barely seen any of the playoffs since the Hawks failed. I agree with Krush. Of all the teams left, St. Louis is the one team I really don't want to win. Who cares about their system, it's the f***ing Blues.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 4, 2012 -> 05:03 PM) Although there was this, maybe this was what I was remembering: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/art...10025/index.htm I know they didn't get along with Phil and he definitely may have been low-balled and/or forced out. But Jordan wasn't and he quit on his own after title #6.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 4, 2012 -> 04:54 PM) From what I remember, Jordan didn't come back because Jackson wasn't coming back. Jackson wasn't coming back because he felt slighted ($$) and because Krause wanted to break everything up to go younger. I also thought I remember Jordan not being happy with being "low-balled" by Krause. I still think if they had offered Jordan more he would have stayed, even if Phil decided to move on. No way. His last two years they paid him over $30 million a season, basically to pay him for all the other seasons he was underpaid. He just retired because he was done again, happy with another 3-peat. Jackson may have been low-balled, but there was no point in keeping him anyway with a young team.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 4, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) I still think it was the biggest sports blunder not to pay Jordan or Phil. Pay them the moon if you have to (so long as you were still making money...which JR was) and you're guaranteed how many more titles? 3? 4? Sigh. What??? Jordan only retired because they wouldn't pay him? Did I miss something??
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 4, 2012 -> 03:26 PM) Just kidnap him.
  8. Seattle Mariners ‏ @Mariners The Mariners will take the field tonight to a Beastie Boys song in remembrance of MCA. #RIPMCA
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 4, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) This is one of my friend's facebook status right now Why can't it just be a plumber. Period. Is he a government worker? Maybe it's one of those minority contractor quota situations?
  10. Normal everyday lineup tonight with Paulie back at 1st
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 4, 2012 -> 01:19 PM) If you make it clear up front that the behavior isn't tolerated and make an example of the first person who runs afoul, you quickly get to the point where you don't NEED to monitor every single party. Like he didn't do with Michael Floyd.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) I bet Farmer will though. One of my favorite things about him is he isn't afraid to call a dbag a dbag. True, although I was referring to Stone's religious affiliation...
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 4, 2012 -> 12:51 PM) South Bend isn't a huge place. It isn't hard to know where all of the potential trouble spots are. Now if guys are going to get creative and head out of the city to the middle of nowhere, then no, the coaching staff won't know where they are, but this party was on a street where most of the big off-campus parties occur. Not hard for the coaching staff to know who is and isn't there. So are you saying it was Brian Kelly's job to monitor all these big parties and not let any football players attend them? Or if they did attend, Brian Kelly should have been there to prevent them from drinking or getting intoxicated?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2012 -> 11:34 AM) Delmon back in time just to face the Sox I wonder if Steve Stone will have some choice words for him...
  15. According to FanGraphs, Albert Pujols has been the 2nd least valuable player in baseball, right below Xavier Nady.
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 4, 2012 -> 10:03 AM) The head coach sets the tone for a football program, and he can know as much about his players' whereabouts as he wants to. There are plenty of staff under Kelly to help him with this. On two different occasions, I had classes with players and was paid $100 per semester to report on the players' class attendance. Don't tell me every school does that. Actually, I think it's pretty common for universities to monitor athletes' attendance like that.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 4, 2012 -> 08:47 AM) If I'm sitting in Cashman's chair and I have a blank check and my job is to continue winning pennants and world series games, yes, I'd take on Marmol, that would not be the worst risk ever, but I'd make sure he passes a serious physical first (so that I know his current issue isn't that he's about to blow out an elbow). If ownership is seriously pushing me to get down below the luxury tax threshold, and I'm staring Cano and Granderson's extensions in the face, then no, I wouldn't even think about it. It's a good thing you aren't sitting in Cashman's chair right now then. I don't see how spending $15 million on a guy who can't throw strikes to pitch the 7th inning is a good idea. Especially just a day after Mo's injury. You have two very good options in your bullpen. Hughes has been much better as a reliever than a starter and he can head back there once Pettitte is called up. If your replacements fail miserably for some reason, then you start looking for outside help. Myers, Street, Betancourt may all be available, or maybe Marmol will have figured it out. You don't spend all that money hoping that you can figure out his problem, it's not like control has ever been his strong suit.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 4, 2012 -> 08:26 AM) Who out there would be easier to be had rapidly for next to nothing in terms of organizational talent (basically just money)? Whoa, I misread your previous post, I thought the Cubs would pick up the salary. Do you actually think it's a good idea to pick up Marmol & the $15 million due to him right now? When he can't throw a strike and wasn't very good last year either? The Yankees already have two relievers that are way better than Marmol anyway. That just sounds like an awful idea, that Cashman should not even consider.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 4, 2012 -> 08:20 AM) Seriously, if you were the Yankees, you have their financial resources, and the Cubs made Marmol available if the Yanks ate most of the $15 million he has on his deal, wouldn't you at least consider it? Yeah there's luxury tax penalties on that money, but you just lost the best reliever ever. No way. Maybe if Robertson can't handle the closer role. Marmol is absolutely terrible now, are you really gonna trust him right now? There's way better relievers to be had out there if you are desperate, which I don't think they need to be yet considering who they still have in their bullpen.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2012 -> 08:12 AM) And I bet the Cubs would take on some salary... They would have to pay his whole salary and throw in a prospect to get rid of him today.
  21. And an umbrella cause it's constantly raining
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 12:48 AM) I just realized that the 4 guys on my DL have something in common. Chris Young Michael Morse Sergio Santos Daniel Hudson Let me guess, you have Brandon Allen, Clayton Richard, & Ryan Sweeney on your team too?
