  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 01:10 PM) If the Hawks do hang on to Crawford, our only real hope is that he pulls a Jimmy Howard. Really good rookie season, sophomore slump, then ascends into a top goalie in his 3rd full year in net. It's not likely, but that's what we need. It's not like Crawford hasn't shown flashes. He's 9 months younger than Howard too. Crawford yr 1: 2.30, .917, 4 SO Howard yr 1: 2.26, .924, 3 SO Crawford yr 2: 2.72, .903, 0 SO Howard yr 2: 2.79, .908, 2 SO Or he can become the next Brian Elliott or Mike Smith. Elliott was nearly the worst goalie in hockey last season, now he's almost a Vezina candidate. Two years ago, Smith was battling Huet & Khabi for worst in the league, now look at him.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) More than that, they don't have any cap space again. That is the big problem with being star heavy in this day and age. Cap Geek has them at $6.85 million, but that's with only 12 F & 6 D, and the two goalies. Even counting cheap rookies like Bollig/Saad/Smith, that gives you very little options to give a FA a good contract. That doesn't even count the $3.4 million they are paying Olesz yearly to play in Rockford til 2014.
  3. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 09:15 AM) I get the anger with Crawford. It's really frustrating when the Blackhawks have like 25 shots and 0 goals, while the Coyotes have 7 shots and 2 goals. Last night's game is not the one that will upset me with Crawford as much as the awful soft goals in OT in games 3 & 4. With him & Emery signed for next year already, I don't know if the goalie situation will change it all. He was solid in 2010-11, so not ready to give up on him yet. Less defensive breakdowns in front of him would also help, as that was a major issue this year.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 08:22 AM) Dayan does it every year too. maybe spring training is two months long in Cuba?
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 07:57 AM) OPS Ranks in MLB this morning... 6. Ryan Sweeney 10. AJ 16. Paulie 26. Rios 32. Dunn 36. DeAza 167. Alexei 177. Beckham 185. Morel 188. M. Byrd Viciedo doesn't have enough AB's to qualify officially, but he's close to Alexei, leading him by a bit, at .570 Seems like just a week or so Alexei and Viciedo were both close to .300 hitters. If there's one player on the Sox I'm not worried about yet, it's Alexei. He sucks in April every year.
  6. A little more national recognition from Yahoo scott pianowski ‏ @scott_pianowski White Sox had an over/under of 75 before the season, a major underlay. This is a decent ballclub, probably biggest ALC threat to Detroit.
  7. QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 07:26 AM) Looks like we will never know the reasoning from the arbitrator. The fact that neither side seems to care is alarming. LOL, that is hilarious. Even when Selig tries to do the steroid thing right, he still shoots himself in the foot.
  8. 3 hits? You suck Peavy. I expect perfection.
  9. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 11:52 PM) 10 percent of the season, 16 games, 65 AB's, 0 HR's and 4 RBI. Seems like he only has warning track power now, very odd. Similar thing happened to start last season. OPS by month in 2011: April: .794 May: .752 June: 1.197 July: .955 August: .951 September: .954
  10. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 11:40 PM) Yeah, that is not good at all. That would be brutal if it was a career ending hit due to concussion symptoms. Don't you dare talk like that....
  11. Elevate the f***ing puck Brendan Morrison. Your teammates smoke Mike Smith, he leaves 3 feet of open net up high and you smack it right into his pads. Score there, and I bet we are going to game 7.
  12. More good news for the Saints. GM Mickey Loomis has been accused of eavesdropping on opposing coaching staffs in the Superdome from 2002-2004.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 02:38 PM) Actually, with him being back on the DL, I kinda doubt he's able to be moved for much this summer. Since when is Wright on the DL? He fractured his right pinkie, but he is still playing quite well.
  14. I rarely stay up for the weeknight west coast games, but since the Hawks will be on late, I might actually catch some of this one and Big Fat Bartolo.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 11:36 AM) Just an FYI, but the Sox have been about as good as you can be against Justin Verlander in his career. His 4.13 ERA against us is the 2nd highest of any AL team. Most of that success was earlier in his career, not against this version of Verlander. Check out the year to year splits vs. the Sox. He is 10-1 in his last 11 starts against the Sox. 2011: 5-1, 2.91 ERA (6 starts) 2010: 2-0, 2.25 ERA (2 starts) 2009: 3-0, 1.40 ERA (3 starts) 2008: 1-5, 5.83 ERA (6 starts) 2007: 0-0, 3.60 ERA (3 starts) 2006: 1-4, 7.82 ERA (5 starts)
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 10:12 AM) I just want to know where this Mike Smith came from, because he used to be atrocious. Seriously, 2009-2011 while with Tampa Smith was one of the worst goaltenders in hockey - of course, the D in front of him was awful, but he'd have given up about 4 softies in any of these games with 40 shots on last year. I swear goaltending is the relief pitching of baseball these days. Save a few truly elite guys, the highs and lows of goaltending performance are completely random. How about Brian Elliot? The last two seasons he had save %'s of under .900, now he's f***ing Patrick Roy. I do think the quality of the defense in front of them is playing a big part in some of these goalies random successful seasons.
  17. QUOTE (mumbles3k @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 02:30 AM) The original MAJOR LEAGUE was so bad, I never bothered with the sequels. I'll have to check that out. That and MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING are now at the top of my list. But I haven't seen a lot of these. This is just wrong on so many levels.
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) I'd just like to add that I don't want to get rid of "this" Rios. We put up with the crap Rios for years, and it seems like he may be turning a corner...trading him wouldn't produce much of a trade because of his salary, so instead of getting nothing in return, I'd like to keep him if this is the version of him we will be getting. Waiting until he's playing good and then trading him would make me sick, especially if he stays good and some other teams gets to reap the benefits after the years of frustration we had to deal with. I'd sooner keep him because his contract would dictate little to no return in shedding him right now. I'm just worried whether or not this Rios will be the one we get all season. Even in 2010, his one OK year with the Sox, he had an outstanding May, but was pretty mediocre for the other 5 months of the year.
  19. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 07:55 AM) i'll tell ya the truth - i don't eat out much cuz i'm broke. but that's the other thing. a car is a necessity in Chicago. In NYC you can do everything I mentioned without one. Saves lotsa $$ That's not true at all, I know plenty of people living in Chicago without a car.
  20. QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 09:53 PM) So, Vancouver will be burning down tonight. Oh how I enjoy watching them lose. Even better for it to happen at home.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 21, 2012 -> 06:57 PM) No. There was mass overreaction to a 3-week Kalapse. The Red Sox were the best team in baseball for four months. Theo would've at least had the 'pen in order. Unfortunately for them, the season is six months long, so they were at home in October.
  22. QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 10:35 PM) 10 losses in a row for KC... Maybe next year they will be awesome... or next year... or next year... or next year... or next year... or next year... or next year... or next year... or next year... or next year... LOL @ KC. The more some things change, the more some stay the same.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 20, 2012 -> 01:39 PM) Where did AJ get this power stroke this year? Remember last year when he had no pop in his bat most of the year? The ball is rocketing off his bat. He met with Ryan Braun's trainers in the offseason
