  1. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 11:47 AM) ESPN has updated their post-signing day preseason Top 25, and the Top 3 are all within 100 miles of my house. Are you sure that's something you should be bragging about?
  2. The official LA Kings twitter last night: LA Kings ‏ @LAKings To everyone in Canada outside of BC, you're welcome.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 10:50 AM) How many big name coaches have left a trail of NCAA sanctions in their wake? The Shark is one.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 10:52 AM) Its not the compliance dept. Its how tightly knitted the group of boosters is within the community. UK fans are the entire city, its going to be very hard to crack that nut. The SEC in general is very good at hiding things and never ever letting them out. It's like that in any town where the college sports are more important than anything else. Which suprised me that a town like Columbus had a slip up with their football team.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) I just saw where they are only 16-12 on the road this year. That makes the #1 seed all of the more important as they are 24-4 at home. I find that interesting, as their crowd doesn't provide much of a home court advantage as opposed to many other teams.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 10:04 AM) Being less thorough when digging into the past of questionable recruits is not an NCAA violation, and Calipari has taken full advantage of that fact. At some point, his employers need to realize this and cover the bases that he isn't since they are the ones who will get stuck with the penalties later on. I would expect Kentucky's athletic compliance department to be much more knowledgable/skilled/experienced/funded etc., than the depts at Memphis or UMass, so it will be much tougher to uncover anything there.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) He doesn't keep getting caught. The big name players keep getting caught, but by that time he's already moved on. If he was getting caught, the phrase "Show Cause" would be applied. So he hasn't broken any rules then? Just like all the other big name coaches haven't.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 09:16 AM) When did I say that? Cal just does it better than the others, and then scampers away to another job before things actually get exposed. If he does it better than the others, why does he keep getting caught while no one else does?
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 09:00 AM) GMAB man, that's the coach making sure he has "Plausible deniability". And of course he is the only coach in basketball that does that.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 08:24 AM) He could even be going clean. He provides winning, and a quickest route to the NBA for a top notch kid. Who else can top that right now? Not to start a Coach Cal love fest, but what did he get in trouble for at UMass & Memphis? Sports agents were paying Camby to woo him, it wasn't money directly from Cal. I highly doubt he personally advised Derrick to cheat on his SAT. Most of the dirty recruting in college doesn't seem to involve the coaches themselves. It's boosters, alums, AAU people, agents, and even Adidas & Nike.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 08:32 AM) Utley just seems so far along this "Degenerative" path for whatever his legs are doing...even if they get him back, I kinda wonder what he'll give them. Victorino, Howard, Pence, Rollins, Polonco, and Ruiz is the makings of a decent lineup though. What happened to Domonic Brown? Is he hurt? The Phillies seem to be too stubborn about being in "win-now" mode to give Domonic Brown a real shot in the majors and go through some growing pains.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 08:38 AM) The response to that is "Ivan Rodriguez". and "Yadier Molina"
  13. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 10:26 PM) Kark? Kark is definitely the best looking catcher in Sox history. Maybe the best looking player overall.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 08:42 PM) Right there. Noel was supposed to pick Georgetown, all signs were pointing there. Picks Kentucky. It's just weird. The fact that they are extremely good is definitely a huge pull for these top 1-10 guys, its also a clear path to the NBA most likely. So whatever, probably another final four run. Blame the NBA & guys like Jerry Krause who couldn't stay away from high schoolers like Eddy Curry. Dirty or not, Calipari has taken full advantage of the one & done rule to almost create a minor league system at Kentucky. Other schools sell kids on their university, and he sells them on his ability to get them ready for the NBA. And he now has the track record with all the recent draft picks they have had.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 11:22 PM) Shea Weber = dumb I'd expect that to cost him a game this series.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 07:34 PM) The Phillies are basically using Juan Pierre as the leadoff hitter. Major facepalm... And his competition in spring was Scott Podsednik
  17. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 07:04 PM) Did the A's just get a walk-off HBP? Not just a walk-off HBP. He hit batters on back-to-back pitches to end the game.
  18. And there's the awful Jon Broxton we all saw for his last year and half in LA.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 04:06 PM) The way they pluck kids from schools that have been after them longer and probably local points to that every time. UK already has 2 5 stars and 1 4 star. #15, #17, #35 Only Gary Harris is ranked higher for the Big Ten. Add in 2-3 of what I posted before and you have one of the best classes in recent history, again. Last year they brought in ONLY 5 star recruits for the #1 class. The year before they averaged 4 stars for the #1 class. The year before they averaged 4.33 stars for the #1 class. To put that in perspective, the Indiana class that everyone is jacked up about averages 3.60 stars for the #3 class The OSU class in 2008 average 4.0 stars for #1 Probably the best class in OSU history in 2005 averaged 4.6 stars for #2 The illinois class in 2010 had a 4.33 avg for #11 UK could bring in back to back to back to back #1 classes and this one COULD be their best. Ridiculous How many of those kids in the past 4 classes are in the NBA right now or about to get drafted?
  20. QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) I'm not sure if you were trying to imply this or not, but it seems like the public's ignorance would be to the second part, not the first part. Kind of yeah. Calipari has done a great job creating an NBA pipeline, but I still can't believe he's completely clean, especially at a school as crazed as UK. But for example, think about tonight. If those top two recruits both select UK, there will be whispers everywhere about them getting paid. But what if they select Geoergetown & UCLA like they have been rumored too? Those whispers will all disappear. Did the kids & their families suddenly get a taste of morality or not need the money all of a sudden? Or did Calipari not offer them money? Something has to give somewhere, people like to point all the fingers at Calipari, but none in the mirror ever. (This is not a comment on a certain school, just a comment on NCAA recruiting in general)
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) Kentucky is in on the #1, #2, #7, #22, #25 kids in the country coming down the stretch here. Thats unreal. Once again will give them the best class in the country. And you can bet that whichever kids go to UK, there will be cries of dirty recruiting. But any kid that chooses a different school was obviously cleanly recruited.
