  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 07:33 PM) No one else has memorialized a dead former owner longer than this. Where's the Packers' Vince Lombardi or Curly Lambeau memorials? He was one of the main original founders of the ENTIRE NFL.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) They shouldn't. Why mess with something that's solid? I'm glad they didn't. Nike was making the unveiling such a big deal, I was worried they would do something drastic. I had gotten a e-mail from the Bears two months ago offering 50% off jerseys to all season ticket holders. Now it makes so much more sense why they offered that.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 01:39 PM) Makes some sense...if the team wins 85 games, which is probably margin of error even for my guess...then they'll have drastically outperformed almost everyone's expectations, which is usually big for a MOY award. And teams like New York, Detroit, LA, & Texas all have such high expectations already, it's harder for their managers to win the award.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 01:21 PM) Johnson is opening the Miami park tomorrow night. It's a one game series with the Cardinals for some odd reason. I know the WS champion always plays the only game on opening night, but it's usually at home and part of a whole series.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) "They're getting paid a lot of money to perform," Guillen said. "If they cannot play, somebody will play. They make the lineup. I write it down, and [bench coach] Joey Cora prints it. That's what we do here. If you play good, you make the lineup. If you do not play good, somebody will make the lineup. We'll put in somebody else. This is not an easy job." Alex Rios says "Bulls***"
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 07:15 PM) God how I hate A.J. batting 5th. God how I hate A.J. batting. Is it the Tyler Flowers era yet?
  7. It will be interesting to see which contract ends worse? Pujols (age 41) Fielder (age 36 & fat) Votto (age 39 & no DH)
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 08:04 AM) How many arbitration years did Votto have left? None, they had already bought them out. He had signed a 3 year, $38 million deal to buy out his arb years through 2013.
  9. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 11:00 PM) Just an FYI, the Hawks can now finish no worse than 6th in the conference, due to the point picked up last night. Phoenix and LA have 91 points with 3 games remaining, thus having only 6 points that they can pick up. Now the goal is avoiding Nashville. LA shut out the Oilers last night, so they are the Hawks most likely opponent at the moment. They have major issues scoring but don't give up many goals, Quick already shut the Hawks out twice this year.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 08:16 PM) I had a great time for the four days I was out there, but I was ready to be back to Chicago. Fun place to visit, but I am glad to not have to do that every day. I concur. I think it would be a bit too much to actually live there.
  11. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 06:04 AM) Preseason 2012-2013 rankings Thanks again Bruce Weber!!!
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 07:22 PM) Meyers Leonard = he gawn. So that top-10/15 class of Richmond/Leonard/Head ended up with 122 games played, 38 games started, 37-29 record. Sigh.
  13. Giants lock up Cain to a 5-year deal, worth around $100 million.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) I highly doubt he would have signed with the Cubs. IIRC, Votto HATES them. Also, Rizzo likely has 1b locked up for the Cubs in the future. If he's any good.
  15. Kentucky 72 Kansas 68. Self & the Jayhawks have just been pushing all the right buttons in March, but I think Kentucky is just too damn good, but it will be close. Personally I have hated Kansas even since Self was in Champaign, when they faced Illinois in the Sweet 16 in back-to-back years. On the other hand, a KU victory wins me a pool and a nice payday, so I guess it's a win-win situation.
  16. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 09:12 AM) That's not indicative of anything. He had very little playing time, and was suffering from a very debilitating illness. No one should minimize the effects of such a serious condition. The hernia didn't help him to get back to normal. Again, I think the issue is whether or not he is healthy. If the answer is yes, why shouldn't we expect him to return to his consistent previous performance, at age 30? Maybe because he hasn't been able to hit MLB pitching for 3 years. There is no guarantee he suddenly reverts to 2008 form at all. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 09:20 AM) Then put him at Charlotte for a few weeks and if he is going to return to consistent MLB level hitting, he ought to destroy AAA pitching, right? And if he's hitting so well that the team can't afford to not call him up, then make that call. What he said.
  17. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 09:03 AM) Please take a look at Dunn's stats for the last 5 years, versus LHP. It's not pretty. Please take a look at Jackson's stats for the last 3 years, versus all Major League pitching. It's not pretty.
  18. I know what type of season Dunn had last year, but his career OPS vs. LHP is only 30 points lower than Conor Jackson's. And Jackson has been hot garbage since 2008, no guarantee he returns to his old form.

  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 11:03 PM) No, no, no. That point tonight was bad news. The Hawks need to LOSE OUT the rest of the season. If they make it to the 5th seed, then they play the Red Wings in RD 1. If they stay in the 6th spot, they play LA. Hawks better not lose this seeding. I think it's more likely they play the Predators, which is worse IMO.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 10:17 PM) I am not crazy about that team right now. Considering how much they have spent in the last 2-4 years, I think they are going to struggle to make the playoffs. Theo is like the Italian cruise ship captain. Crash the ship, but jump off board before everyone else struggles to find lifeboats.
  22. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 31, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) I guess I should clarify further. I'm not sure I have a better candidate for POY either. IMO there wasn't a clear cut candidate this year. Again, not a knock on Davis or others, just none wowed me to the point I would toss their name up as a clear cut favorite. All showed great flashes and are great players. Did you watch the Final Four game?
  23. QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 31, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) True, but that doesn't mean he should call out Bruce Weber's hiring. Doesn't it also look badly upon his loyalty to K State? He's still bitter that U of I passed on him. Shouldn't he be pleased he found K State? I concur. Talk s*** if you don't like him as a coach, but dont bring up recruiting from 5 years ago when you weren't even a top prospect. All of the other top schools didn't want you either.
  24. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 31, 2012 -> 12:02 PM) The Pacific division is ridiculous right now. Each team has 4 games left: LA 90, 3rd Dallas 89, 7th Phoenix 89, 8th San Jose 88, 9th, outside looking in One game, or even a point, could be the difference between hosting a first round series and missing altogether. Let's not forget LA's game vs Columbus where the clock magically stopped giving LA time to tie the game.
