  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) Fun with numbers 'Duk ‏ @KevinKaduk If Frank McCourt had spent $435 million on Apple stock the day he bought the Dodgers, he'd be worth $12 billion today. Matt Speigel spent half his show yesterday talking about how rich he would be if he had spent his $1,000 of Bat Mitzvah money on Apple stock.
  2. Why are the Dodgers worth double what the Cubs/Boston are?

  4. Konerko will struggle & barely reach 20 homers Matt Thornton will hold the closers job all season Tyler Flowers starts 81+ games
  5. Does anyone know if this is really Nick Smith or a fake account? Either way, it's hilarious. Nick Smith ‏ @thechainsaw45 The Illini Press conference was delayed due to the fact that Groce was a bit hesitant to come out in blackface.
  6. QUOTE (SnB @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) That's where I'm at with it. It was a good interpretation of the book, but it was lacking a ton of depth. I guess that's the case for most "book" movies, but it seemed to really just skim the surface of the story and emotions. I agree, but I think the length of the movie kind of forced that. It was already 2:30 hours long, there was only so much you could add without it becoming too long.
  7. I am finding this choas entertaining, despite the fact that it's embarassing the university.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) And why the hell would the BoT nix this? Oh I know, because Groce isn't black. Frank Martin would have been considered a minority hire. Just sayin.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) i dont see that seth davis tweet on his feed. you sure that's a real one? And why the hell would the BoT nix this? Oh I know, because Groce isn't black. Yup, I just found it again, it was while he was doing his 20 questions feed with followers. 47 minutes ago, so like 12:40 ish.
  10. Seth Davis ‏ @SethDavisHoops "People" have good jobs. AD also scaring em away RT @Devblair: why does it seem people are staying clear of the Illinois job?
  11. There is still some hope! Illinois Basketball ‏ @IlliniHoops Contrary to reports/sources, there will not be an #Illini press conference today.
  12. An arena near campus should have happened a long time ago if DePaul wants to compete. That and they should have stayed in C-USA.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 09:18 AM) Klee and Prep Bullseye saying Jerrance is gone if Groce is hired. Even better. Jerrance would have been a better hire than Groce.
  14. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) Was it? That team should have been shooting nothing but 3s given that the 3-pt line was only 15 feet out. They won titles under him, he definitely did a better job than Dick Butkus.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 08:52 AM) Which everyone agrees he's very good at. For those against the Groce hire, I agree, it's not exciting. But what the hell is the alternative? Reggie Theus? . Um, did you watch Hang Time? His coaching of the Deering Tornadoes was remarkable.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 08:52 AM) Let me be clear though...a "bigger name" wasn't what I was after...it was the "experience" at stabilizing a locker room and dealing with the youngsters the Sox needed to develop that I was interested in. I could have been content with a surprise name if it met those standards. A "bigger name" was a bit of a broad statement, as there were other factors in play as you mentioned. My point still stands that this is not the first or last time a fanbase has been critical of a coaching hire.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 08:35 AM) If, if, if. I'm starting to believe that most Illinois fans don't deserve a successful coach. Well then neither do Sox fans, considering how many b****ed about the Ventura hire and wanted a bigger name. I'm not gonna root for Groce to fail by any means, but it doesn't mean I have to applaud the hire.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 08:04 AM)
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 08:03 AM) Haugh made a good point today. If Akron makes an open shot Ohio doesn't make the tournament and this guy is never considered. He may turn out to be the greatest coach in Illinois history he may be awful. It will all come down to recruiting And in 2010, he needed OT games over the 3rd & 8th place teams in the MAC just to make the tournament.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 07:55 AM) I'll hope so, but I'm not counting chickens until they are hatched. If I wanted to be truly nasty I'd point out that Danks was hurt and struggled out of the gates last year and Floyd has a series of recurring conditions that keep costing him Septembers, and the bullpen has at least a good number of question marks in it too. And that's all before Viciedo has to catch a fly ball. I'm just not in a good place with this team right now. You sound like me in the Illinois basketball coach thread. I don't see this team making the playoffs, but relative to the non-Detroit teams in the division, I think they can outplay all of them. Nearly everything that could have went wrong last year did, and I think getting rid of the crazy man in the clubhouse will make a difference too.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 07:46 AM) Our pitching staff might well come out of the gates strong...but there are 3 of those guys who might start being gassed at about 100 innings. I assume you mean Sale, Peavy, & Humber? I get the first two, but you don't think the 163 IP last season should put Humber in better shape this year?
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 01:29 AM) John Groce...I feel like this is a bad dream. Hopefully I wake up tomorrow and he is old news. I thought I was the only one here who hadn't joined the John Groce fan club already.
  23. The biker is now unresponsive & in a medically induced coma
