  1. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) Butler moving to the A-10 certainly makes it more likely that he will stay. Did that happen already or is it in the works? All this extra realignment has me lost.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) Herb Gould ‏ @HerbGould #Shaka says no. Turned down at least $2.5mil from #illini today, multiple sources tell Sun-Times. So who's next?
  3. Shaka is addressing his players right now. I guess we will find out shortly, but sounds like the answer is no.
  4. WOW on the Saints, didn't expect that much for Payton. Then again, they are the dumbassess who got caught once, and didn't stop, so the NFL had to send a message. I hope Sanchez never gets hurt, because Tebow playing in NY might cause ESPN to explode.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) He's never leaving Butler. I think he would only leave for the Indiana job.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 11:14 AM) Yeah, this makes sense. But it's been done before. I'm pretty sure Kruger did analyst work after accepting the Illinois gig. Seth Davis seems to think Shaka is coming here, but he's been wrong about a lot of things. Read somewhere too that Shaka has a history with Meyers. Apparently Shaka was Florida's lead recruiter for Meyers and had him scheduled to go to a Florida camp right before he signed with Illinois. That'd be great if he (1) accepts the job, (2) convinces Meyers to stay another year. (even though that's a pipe dream I think at this point) I would explode all over my keyboard if Shaka got the job and convinced Meyers to stay.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 10:21 AM) http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...lb&c_id=mlb Losing Wainwright in spring last year worked out for them. Then again, that was without Sir Albert, Dave Duncan, and LaRussa.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) Well, if your village passed it, they would change you over, and I think they'd stop harassing you. So why vote no? Also... I've never gotten a call from any of them. Just some occasional junk in the mail. Are you not on the do-not-call list? It's not my personal number they call me on, it's my business number. (which is in a different suburb that didn't have this referendum on the ballot) I answer most phone calls at our shop, and at least once a week I hear "Can I speak with the person in charge of the ComEd bill?" (which I am). No matter what I say, they just haggle me about how much they will save me, but how they aren't selling anything or switching anything. As far as I know, business phone numbers are not allowed on the do-not-call list.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 09:48 AM) Article here - suburbs who already did it are reporting 15 to 30% savings. I am glad it went over well. 75% voted for it in my suburb. My town voted yes, about 55-45. I ended up voting no just because all of those companies have harassed me so much for the past 5 years.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) $20 is a lot for a movie, but that includes free popcorn, a comfier seating area, and free valet service, as well as the ability to buy drinks during the whole flick. Does that mean unlimited "free" drinks are part of the $20, or you just have the ability to buy a drink and get free refills, not sure I quite understand that last part... 60 positive, 6 negatives now...91 rating for THG, but wow, some of the negative reviews were really scathing...seems like there's no middle ground on this picture, other than the admiration for Jennifer Lawrence's continued evolution as a young actress I should have said the ability to buy alcoholic drinks. No they aren't free, only the popcorn is, but you can buy booze sitting in that section as it is 21 & over.
  11. QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 06:11 PM) no different than a baseball team waiting 3 months to bean an opposing hitter. Totally. One guy throwing a baseball at someone & avoiding his head = six guys pummeling each other in the face
  12. New rumors are that Shaka is still deciding, may make decision by tonight. Offer is in the $2.5 million per year range.
  13. Shouldn't the Jackets be relegated to the AHL or IHL by now? Maybe the KHL?
  14. Thanks for the info. I know about those different electric companies, I have always refused to switch because they call/visit my shop at least once a week are usually complete assholes about getting me to switch to their service. I also am a bit wary of getting caught in some contract that costs more in the long run, which I have heard has happened to some. However, if my village is in charge of it, then I'm sure it's much less likely to get caught like that, so sounds like it could be a good idea.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) Voting is taking place in IL today. I went with Romney on the Prez Primary. Voted YES on a referendum here to aggregate electricity supply, a bunch of suburbs have similar ballots on. Who did you vote for? Voting after work, think I will have to go with Romney as well. The only other contended Republican office on my ballot is 28th State Sen., voting for Jim O'Donnell. What is the benefit of that electricity referendum? I noticed it will be on my ballot too. I was gonna vote no, but my knowledge on it is limited.
  16. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 09:34 AM) Going to see Hunger Games Saturday morning with a bunch of kids. Maybe I'll slide into 21 Jump Street if it is running at the same time. I think the kids may ruin Hunger Games for me. My wife really wants to see it this weekend, but I'm worried about all the tweens too. The Muvico in Rosemont has a 21 & over balcony, which I think could make it a bit more tolerable. $20 is a lot for a movie, but that includes free popcorn, a comfier seating area, and free valet service, as well as the ability to buy drinks during the whole flick.
  17. QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 11:24 AM) considering the money they gave him, I'm not so sure it is...remember the "best power coming out of college since mark mcgwire" stuff too? in fact, you can even argue that he changed the way we draft...since giving him that ridiculous 6 million dollars, the sox have since almost never gone over slot 14 of the 30 guys drafted in that 1st round never even made the majors. I find it hard to call him an all-time historical bust considering how many top draftees never even see the light of MLB.
  18. QUOTE (StatManDu @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 10:14 AM) THE WELCOME MAT FOR THORNTON 2006: General manager Kenny Williams acquired underachieving left-handed pitcher Matt Thornton from Seattle for underachieving outfielder Joe Borchard. Thornton became one of the top left-handed relievers in the game and in White Sox history and an All-Star. Borchard is one of the biggest busts in the history of the draft. While this is by no means Brock-for-Broglio, this trade has to be considered one of the best in Sox history and of the Williams Era. Whoa now. That's a bit of an overstatement.
  19. Happy B-Day!!! Hope Sea-town is treating you well
  20. I guess I have to vote for somebody today, but none of these candidates excite me in the least.
  21. Dolphins get their QB that's been out of football for a year: David Garrard.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 08:27 AM) That wasn't staged. That was some anger. If it was staged, they wouldn't have lasted as long as they did. When I say staged, I mean that 3 different groups of guys pre-planned to drop the gloves at opening faceoff. It wasn't a direct result of some play that occurred, it was just pure anger like you said. I think stuff like that is a bit over the top and doesn't do hockey any good.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 08:08 AM) His wife has a degree from NW. Well I guess that's one connection, but I haven't heard of many coaches choosing a school because it's their wife's alma mater.
  24. Who says the Pac-12 sucks? 3 teams in the Elite Eight and guaranteed at least one in the Final 4.
  25. QUOTE (The Critic @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 02:48 AM) I think s*** like that makes the league (and the sport) look like a joke, but the cheering you hear is why it will never leave the game, no matter what the NHL tries to say publicly. I concur. It's one thing if you are retaliating for someone taking a run at your star players, but staged fights like that are unnecessary.
