  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 03:44 AM) Senior barcrawl means hit got kray tonight, btw look up what that reallly means. Youn wont beileve it. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 04:07 AM) Except the rumor that it had to do with British crime twins is false. At every concert during their tour, the stages had a CRAY on them as opposed to KRAY. It's also been said that they got it from a previous Young Jeezy song. And Jay Z has also used "that s*** crazy" numerous times instead of CRAY during live performances. Whoever did the research certainly came up with a pretty damn good coincidence though. Awesome.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 08:09 AM) I don't think I've heard his name from the moment he left the Knicks until now. What's he doing tehse days? Selling avocados? 52.6% from the field, 18.6 ppg, 9.9 rbg
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 07:47 AM) JonHeymanCBS Jon Heyman Micah owings has $1M deal with padres, pending physical There goes his value in that park.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) I'm sure I'll get blasted by the hyperbole police, but I truly think this is the worst level of talent I've ever seen in college basketball. Hell, there's only two players in the power conferences averaging over 20 points, and I doubt many on here could guess who they are (Kevin Jones and T. Stoglin). The UCONN/Gtown game tonight was awful, and there are a handful of potential pros in that game. I've heard people calling the 2012 NBA draft class "loaded"? Then again, the NBA drafts on potential, which is why Leonard could be a lottery pick despite a mediocre season.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 10:01 PM) All that and there were still better options for him. Consistent winners doesn't mean BCS title contender. BCS title contender isn't on top of every recruit's list. Playing time, going pro, close to home etc., also matter.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 06:11 PM) Brian Stow nearly died at a baseball game? How many fights have you seen at Cubs/Sox games? Raiders/49ers? Hell, look what happened in Vancouver last year. OK, one person nearly died. Those are a few fights between drunken idiots, not entire sections of fans storming the pitch/field. That's not entire groups of fans trying to get to another section, causing the stadium to collpase, trapping tons of fans. The idiots of Vancouver are an opposite example, but they also weren't attacking opposing fans. Plus, they are Canucks fans, they don't really count. I get all your other points about how much larger & more important soccer is to the rest of the world, and I agree. In fact, that's my point. We see the occasional fistfight at a Cubs/Sox game or people talk about how Philly fans are so rough if you go to a game there. Fact is, soccer fandom is way more intense, which does lead to more hooliganry & criminal activity, and unfortunately more tragedies.
  7. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 05:07 PM) This makes ZERO sense. How civil were the fans for the Pacers/Pistons brawl at the palace? American sports are on a much smaller scare compared to, you know, THE REST OF THE WORLD. There's hundreds of soccer leagues in the middle of the season right now, and this one riot is supposed to make it seem like a frequent occurrence? Yes, it happens, but it's also because it's the top sport in most countries around the world and the pure volume of soccer matches outnumbers anything that happens in the US. EDIT: After reading some other articles, it looks like this group of hooligans is notorious in Egypt. How many American fans have died as a result of violence at sporting events?? In America, you can sit anywhere you want at an opposing team's stadium. In many European stadiums, you have to sit in a certain away section guarded up from the rest of the fans for protection. I know that in Poland, there are groups of fans that follow their team around specifically to fight the other team's fans, not even to watch the actual game.
  8. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) Unfortunately for that industry I'm sure their pay and opportunities is some of the best out there. Their location seems pretty awful
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) Yes, but it's very difficult and somewhat rare. The last real major one I can recall was Ted Kennedy running against Jimmy Carter in 1980. And to be somewhat coarse...no Democrat anywhere is going to risk alienating the key, um, racial demographic that voted so overwhelmingly for Obama by being the guy who tried to beat Obama. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) Someone could try to run a contested primary, but they wouldn't get any national DNC support and all of the establishment that goes with it. Incumbent candidates for Senate and House seats and governorships are frequently contested in primaries. Thanks. I figured it was a bit taboo to go against the sitting President from your party, but it does happen to congressman and governors all the time like you said, so I wasn't sure about the rules. I guess the fact that the law prevents Obama from running in 2016 makes a difference too, any candidate knows they can run 4 years from now.
  10. Are candidates allowed to run against an incumbent president in a primary? I'm surprised there's no Democratic candidates opposing the Prez. I think the same thing happened to Sir Bush in 2004.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:13 PM) Whoa. 70+ dead in Egyptian soccer riot It's impressive how civil American sports fans are compared to soccer fans all across the globe.
  12. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) The cops here have been in a feud with a local bar owner who owns a few of the more popular bars, which has led to the cops to raid pretty much only those bars for a period of time. Cochrane I assume?
  13. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 11:35 PM) So in Chambana, do cops come into the bar itself and check IDs of people holding/otherwise possessing drinks? That happened once when I was in Wisconsin, and thought it was really weird, because in Bloomington (Indiana) that never happened. There'd be cops outside the bars, especially at close, to make sure nothing got way too out of hand, but never in the actual bar. However, in Bloomington you needed to be 21 just to get in the door. Yup. They randomly decide to enter, sometimes wearing uniform, sometimes just a badge cleverly hidden inside their jacket, which is what the guy was wearing when I got busted for a $260 ticket 10 years ago. (God I'm getting old) The funniest story was once we are Station 211 on Mug Night and the bar got raided. Everyone realized and immediately stepped away from their tables. The Bulls happened to be playing the Lakers in the 4th, so everyone under 21 crowded around the TV to "watch" the game. This was post-MJ, pre-DRose so not many people were intently following them. The cops just walked around the bar, tables were filled with unattended mugs filled with beer, while all these kids were just watching the game, obviously under 21, but not close enough to alcohol to bust them.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 01:42 PM) I'd absolutely call LeBron lazy. I don't care what his stats say, he should be much better than he is. If he's lazy, then I'd say everyone outside of Kobe & D-Rose should be considered lazy too.
  15. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 01:28 PM) I don't think the Heat belong on that list of being lazy, Wade/Lebron/Bosh don't put up those stats because they are lazy.... You are right. He lumped them in with the Kings & Wizards and threw me off. Yes, maybe LeBron should work on his low post game a little more. But you don't get in that type of physical shape/endurance and put up those numbers with a lack of effort. And with the way Wade throws himself in the lane and has played injured, I don't know how he can be considered lazy.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 01:03 PM) One thing you can say about college BB is that because there are so many more programs/teams, any generalization you want to make is probably true. There are probably plenty of teams of incredibly motivated, hard workers, and just as many teams who want to party. In the NBA, you have only a handful of teams like the Bulls/Spurs who are legendary already for work ethic, while on the other side you also only have a handful of teams like the Heat/Kings/Wizards who come to mind when you think "the effort of these guys is kinda lacking". Yeah, but there are guys on the Heat/Kings/Wizards who do put in the effort. Either they are lower on the roster so you don't notice, or the team is so much less talented that it doesn't matter. Not every member of the Bulls has a legendary work ethic either.
  17. Anybody who says that NCAA players try harder didn't watch Illinois basketball last year. McCamey had legit NBA aspirations and didn't give a s*** about it. Davis & Tisdale also half-assed it most of the time.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 08:11 AM) Out of last year's 25 man roster, there's only like 6-7 guys I would say didn't have a season I could call disappointing in some way. Konerko, Buehrle, Lillibridge, Crain, Ohman, maybe Pierzynski, maybe Jackson. Everyone else, I can look at them and say "This guy needed to do x better and should have been able to do so". Phil Humber?
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 11:33 AM) who had the better numbers during the title run season? Im just curious, I really dont know. All i know is that people that season were saying "Dee Brown, yea i like him. But man, DWill has come out of nowhere and we really like him" Head actually led the team in scoring with 15.9 per game, but here is the head-to-head breakdown Dee: 13.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.5 apg, 1.8 stl, .499 FG, .434 3P, .772 FT Deron: 12.5 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 6.8 apg, 1.0 stl, .433 fg, .364 3P, .677 ft
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 11:23 AM) Well that's just not true. Lots of the best college bball players can't make it. And a lot of players on NBA rosters weren't very good in college. The NBA is just a different game because of the athletes involved. More skilled guys are out there that don't make it to the NBA because of athleticism and size alone. One of my favorite players of all time, Dee Brown, is a great example of that. He was probably better than D-Will as a college player. But he's a small 6' in shoes kind of guy that just can't compete in the NBA. The story of D-Will's life. Coming out of high school, his teammate Bracey Wright was supposed to be the better player. Wright kinda fizzled at IU, never sniffed the pros, and look at Deron.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 08:26 AM) Clearly, you have to do a physical or something like that to cover your bases, and make sure you have the medical reports, but if that were a really huge issue, then everything is moot and there won't be a Lebron style free agent chase for him anyway. But I think that's what it all comes down to. it wasn't an ACL injury that you know he can recover from. It's an injury that no one has tried to come back from before, the reports everywhere are conflicting. If it was guaranteed that he would play like Peyton Manning when he came back, it would be a diffferent story.
  22. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 08:18 AM) I've never noticed a difference in the effort. There are guys dogging it in college too. One thing the college game has on the NBA is exciting finishes. The game is almost never over because these college kids can choke and do so regularly. It's fun to see a team s*** itself at a full-court press with an 8 point lead. I think this is the biggest difference and the reason people prefer college. When you have so many more teams that are of similar talent and age levels, there tends to be way more action at the end of the game. It's not the skill of basketball that makes the NCAA tournament so awesome, it's the excitement and randomness.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 07:50 AM) So, I need help. It seems like the media everywhere are in agreement that Peyton Manning is going to wind up released by March 8th. Maybe as soon as next week. I can't figure this out. If he's saying he's healthy enough to play and expects to be back, why wouldn't he be tradeable? Is it impossible to do trades until after that date? I know the Colts might not get 7 first rounders for him if they're under the gun, but I can't believe he wouldn't fetch a Carson Palmer level deal, with maybe a contingent draft pick or two extra, before that date, if he was allowed to be traded. Just cause he says he's healthy enough doesn't mean he is. Do you wanna risk $28 million and 1st round picks on a guy who may never play for you. He's not gonna tell ESPN how hurt he is, but I don't think all those "sources" are just making it up.
