  1. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 09:05 AM) My guess is Garza goes to Boston and they give up very little in the way of prospects. Giving up Garza is akin to giving up prospects, because that's the only trade chip they have left
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 08:43 AM) Parks & F'n Recreation. Rudd. Sweet! Can't wait to watch it tonight
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 08:16 AM) Cubs and Red Cubs have apparently given up trying to agree on compensation for Theo, and Selig is (again) saying he will figure it out himself. Theo, Ben, & Bud will probably all go to dinner and force Theo to pay the whole bill as "compensation". What a joke.
  4. Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter It will be Rams-Patriots in the 2012 London game Rams have reached an agreement to play a home game at Wembley Stadium in London each of the next three seasons through 2014
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 08:24 AM) ESPNStatsInfo ESPN Stats & Info Over the past 7 seasons, Illinois is 6-2 against Penn State when unranked and 0-5 when ranked entering the game. Sounds about right. Good job Bruce.
  6. I was predicting that loss as soon as the OSU game ended. Luckily I fell asleep with 15 minutes left in the 1st half, so I didn't really have to watch much of it.
  7. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) Barry is also the best NFL player ever.. If the Lions had a decent off line back in the 90's he would've even dominate the NFL much more than he did..
  8. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) aw man i was hoping for an Eric Daze montage
  9. Hawk Harrelson @NotHawk Fausto Carmona's actual name is s***ty Pitcher.
  10. Fausto Carmona has been arrested because he actually is Roberto Hernandez Heredia.
  11. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 01:31 PM) What I meant was, the success or failure of this signing won't be determined by measuring how Darvish compares to other pitchers making a similar salary. You mentioned Darvish would have to perform as well as high-salary pitchers like CC and Halladay. There are mediocre pitchers making a lot of money too. It's not like if Darvish marginally outperformed Zambrano or Zito, the deal is a good one. And I'm sure the teams paying mediocre pitchers a lot of money aren't happy either. Just because other pitchers don't live up to their salary, doesn't mean the Rangers sholdn't expcet Darvish too. If Darvish averages 4 WAR per year as the projections say he should, then that puts him more in Buehrle or CJ Wilson range. If that's what the Rangers were looking for, they could have just signed one of those two and used the extra $5 or $6 million per season to sign someone else and improve the team. If I'm gonna make someone the highest paid right-hander in AL history, he better be a Cy Young candidate every year.
  12. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 01:51 PM) Just drinking the same stuff that made people think the Knicks would be better than the Bulls. Preseason opinions are what they are. Oh snap!
  13. Andrew Shaw is trending on Twitter in Chicago. If you are bored, search #shawfacts, there are a few good ones.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 07:49 AM) jonmorosi Jon Morosi #Twins announce their one-year deal with Joel Zumaya. #Tigers Are they purposely trying to lead the league in DL stints next season?
  15. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 06:53 PM) The Rangers could not care less about that. Players' values are not determined by their salary. I'm sure they care when they have to sign his paycheck. Money doesn't grow on trees so salary absolutely matters in a player's value.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 09:37 AM) So...fellas....how long did you date your girlfriend/wife before you asked her to move in or you moved in to her place? About two years, although there were other factors that made sense for it to happen. Got engaged about a year later.
  17. What a major bust the Sabres are. They are nine points out of a playoff spot.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 08:26 AM) I definitely fall on the side of the Bears in this one. With as short of a shelf life as RBs have, I'm not wanting to give Forte a ton of up front money. On the other side of it, if Forte does hold out, I can't blame him either. Knowing how quickly his career can end, you gotta get paid when you can.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 07:27 AM) Interview at link http://www.csnchicago.com/blog/bears-talk/...tm_medium=email Forte is a solid running back, but he's definitely not "elite". I don't wanna see him go, but I'd be wary of giving him a huge contract. So many of the RBs that have received those have extremely underacheived.
  20. I came here to poke fun at Indiana, but karma is a b****, so I'll keep my mouth shut til after tonight's game. Playing PSU the last 4 or 5 years has been nightmarish, so my confidence is waning. At least Talor Battle is gone, that guy still gives me nightmares.
  21. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 03:16 AM) I have been looking for those type of positions. I realized about 2nd semester junior year that this was the case with the alt energy companies. BP isn't hiring until September, neither is Shell. I went to their website and it said so on their "Students/Recent grad" tab. I also don't know if they'd even consider me due to the fact that my undergrad research experience was so heavy on alt energy stuff. It just seems like something that they wouldn't want in a candidate to me. I may be way wrong, so don't quote me on this, but I think those companies could definitely use someone with your experience. 1. They are constantly trying to make their processes more environmentally friendly, which alt energy could help do. 2. I think they have smaller side projects with alt energy processes. They want to show the world they aren't 100% oil and they do care about the future, so alt energy is something they work with a little bit.
  22. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) No he wouldn't. To earn $19M per year, he'd have to be worth slightly more than four wins per season, which Dan Syzmborski's ZiPS system predicts he will be. If you took the average value of the top AL starting pitchers in recent years, you'd get something over six wins. Looks like a fair deal for both sides. This is where I think the financial projections are unrealistic. Adding in the posting fee, he's gonna be about the 4th highest paid pitcher in the whole league. He needs to pitch that well to make it worth it. He needs to be CC/Halladay/Cliff Lee good. If the other pitchers at your salary are worth 6 or 7 wins a year (other than Johan), you need to be that good too.
