  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) John Cusack is reporting the White Sox have traded Paul Konerko to the Cubs for Blake DeWitt. I'd like to trade John Cusack to Cuba for a box of cigars. Or even just one cigar. That guy sucks.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 01:51 PM) Despite the caps, I'm 100% serious. I want to open a Cuban pipeline. Then we can import the woman & children!!!!!
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 01:18 PM) Big Ten is far and away the best conference this year. They crushed everyone in the non-con, so Big Ten teams will get the Big East treatment - just about all conference losses are "good losses." I'm not saying they'll get in, i'm saying if they grab another few wins they're not supposed to get there's no reason they can't make it. I think you might be overhyping the Big Ten a bit. They are already 3-4 in the conference, a 6-5 finish puts them at 9-9, with a 17-14 overall record. I don't think that puts them in at all. Losing at home to a sub-par team is never a "good loss"
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) ACC and PAC-12 both look real bad this year, haven't seen ACC this weak in a long time. Big East with a slightly weaker year than normal too. B10 much stronger than usual, now nearly as good as the Big East. B12 looks decent, net strength was helped by jettisoning Nebraska and Colorado (but that might actually hurt them in some ways). In addition to the B10, the Mountain West looks like they are having an exceptional year too, but they played a lot of weak OOC teams. There's actually a chance they get no at-large bids, just the auto-bid. Think it would be the first ever for a BCS conference
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 12:49 PM) Iowa also crushed Michigan at home. They have an outside shot if they keep it up. Doubtful. They don't play OSU or MSU anymore to get big wins and they went 8-5 out of conference with zero good wins and a home blowout loss to Campbell. Despite their two good wins, they got swept by Purdue and crushed by OSU & MSU.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 12:32 PM) Really? I'd call NW, Iowa and Minn bad, and I doubt any of them make the tournament. I'd be shocked if the B10 sent more than 6. Which is still a lot, but, any more than that, I just can't see it. In my view, there is a big drop off after your first 6 teams there, and then another one right after that. Iowa won AT Wisconsin, & Minny won AT Indiana. Neither will make the tournament, but those are two impressive wins.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 11:50 AM) jonmorosi Jon Morosi Source: #Rangers, Yu Darvish now "close" to reaching deal. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 12:20 PM) MLBInsideNews Scott Swaim Source : Rangers unlikely to sign Darvish LOL, gotta love Twitter.
  8. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) Brandon Jacobs would be a nice pickup for the Sox I prefer my running backs to have more speed...
  9. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 11:02 AM) wood turned down SEVERAL 2 year offers from al teams(including the white sox) to take a 1.5 million deal to rejoin the cubs last year. the white sox offer was reportedly $10 million, and the boston and new york deals werent shabby either. i dont understand his logic in giving ricketts below market deals 2 years in a row. unless ricketts is promising wood a post career job in the organization. This has already been guaranteed, it may have been in his last contract.
  10. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 09:44 AM) I was hoping Sox would go after Seth Smith of Rockies, before they traded him to A's earlier this week for two pitchers. He had just signed for $2.4 MM so he was affordable. He's a solid hitter. He would be a great platoon OF with Lillibridge, but two major problems arise. 1. You would have to trade away 2 of young pitchers you just traded for. 2. Who do you send to the minors, DeAza, Dayan, or Lilli?
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 08:52 AM) I think we're finding out that they go a legit 7 deep, maybe 8-9 (OSU, MSU, ILL, IND, MICH, WIS, PUR, NW, IOWA/MINN on the bubble). Really only PSU and NEB are bad. Probably no national title contenders in the bunch, but maybe a couple of deep tourney runs if teams are playing well in March. I'd say OSU is definitely a title contender, as is Michigan State.
  12. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 08:38 AM) The Sox need a LH bat that is sufficiently potent to force a manager to make a bullpen switch in the late innings. Can you imagine any manager going to the pen to bring in a lefty to face de Aza, A. J. or Dunn? If Adam Dunn stops hitting like the worst player in the history of MLB, then yes, absolutely.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 08:08 AM) This is going to be about money. I full expect us to be outbid on both of them. Especially if Miami is involved
  14. I thought it wasn't about the money Kerry, it's just all about pitching for the Cubs. Must have the same agent as Mark.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 10:08 PM) The Chicago Tribune reports the Raiders have requested permission to interview Bears OC Mike Tice for their head-coaching vacancy. Go f*** yourselves, Oakland. The "interview" is just an excuse to get Super Bowl tickets
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) I'm not seeing how Alex Smith can ask for a bunch of money or whatever. He's earned the benefit of people no longer saying he sucks, but he's still Alex Smith, its not like the NFL is going to start beating his door down and his situation where he is is better than anywhere else. There's only about 4 or 5 teams where he would be a clear upgrade or where there is no young QB starting already.
  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 08:16 PM) Can someone explain Big Ten athletics to me? I don't understand this year's version. All I know is that Illinois is in sole possession of first place right now.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 01:45 PM) ChrisDeLuca Chris De Luca #Bears signed Special Teams Coordinator Dave Toub to a two-year contract. Good news for the Bears & Devin Hester. He interviewed for the Dolphins head job, think he's one of the top special teams guys in the league.
  19. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) Raji one is better It cracks me up that he doesn't like talk whatsoever, just stands there shaking his hips the entire time.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) Offseason conditioning. Isn't that what Starlin Castro was doing with that chick in his apartment?
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) jonmorosi Jon Morosi Before the Victor Martinez news, I thought #Tigers were about the surest bet to win the division of any team in baseball this year. They are still the favorites, but it definitely opens a window for the other teams.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) This is big: @JonHeymanCBS Jon Heyman big blow for #tigers. team announces v-mart has suffered torn acl. Whoa!!! Time to go All In again!
  23. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) The 49ers are actually my second favorite team and have been since the early 90s and I was never in this thread badmouthing them or not giving them a shot to win, yet I have to come in here and read "98% of Bears fans this" or "Every Bears fan I know that" from the two 49ers fans. I realize this isnt a Bears forum but at the same time the White Sox play in Chicago, so of course the majority of the White Sox fan base will also be Bears fans. That said, the Bears fans on this board are actually some of the more knowledgeable and realistic fans you will come across on the internet. As the end of the season came and the playoffs began I found myself basically wanting the 49ers to get knocked out of the playoffs just because of how annoying this thread has been and because I was worried it would become unreadable if the niners won. To me its very similar to the Tim Tebow coverage on ESPN, if guys like Skip Bayless werent so far to one extreme that it basically forces other people to take on the other extreme and despise Tebow he probably would have been a lot of fun to root for. For example, Id be willing to bet if there were 0 niners fans on this board that well over half the people on here would vocally be rooting for the 49ers, me included. I hate the Saints personally. Also, it wasnt "hating" to think the niners were gonna lose. They were underdogs at home in Vegas and one of the biggest question marks about the niners is how would their offense handle getting into a shootout with one of the 3 big time offenses this season, and they certainly answered the question and Im sure in the process they impressed a lot of doubters. Also, a lot of the jabs you guys have taken at the Bears were just for the sake of trolling so a lot of the heat you took was reactionary. I know every fan base is littered with idiots and Im sure you do indeed have to listen to dumb Bears fans somewhere in your life but from what Ive seen it really isnt that bad in here. I wish I was smart enough to post like this. A++
  24. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 12:51 PM) Alex threw for 291 yds in the Philly game with 2 TD's Harbaugh believes in him and that's what matters.. You are right. No point in discussing any kind of statistical facts about the season, "his coach likes him" is all that matters. I'm done. (And I was one of the few who gave the 49ers a chance to beat NO)
