  1. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) Doug Seyller @k0na #Whitesox 5yr 65mil Yes, please
  2. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 01:40 PM) If Hanie played as well as the Texans' 3rd string, rookie 5th round pick, quarterback has, we would probably be, at least, 8-6. Probably 9-5. That's the biggest indictment on Martz and Angelo. The Texans have had to rely on T.J. Yates to keep their season moving, and he's been drastically better (albeit, still mediocre) than Caleb Hanie. Hanie has had 4 years to prepare for this moment. The Bears had 4 years to train Hanie for this moment. The Bears have had 4 years to evaluate if Hanie was worthy of this moment. Big time failure on all accounts. Well said. Yates is helped by one of the best running games in the league, but he still has played mediocrely enough to keep his team in some games. Hanie has been much much worse. Everyone remembers how bad the Quinn/Hutchinson/Krenzel era was for the Bears. Well, according to QB rating, Hanie has been worse. Bottom 3 QB passer ratings of the Lovie Smith era: (min. 3 starts, so no Todd Collins) Jonathan Quinn 53.7 Craig Krenzel 52.5 Caleb Hanie 41.6
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) I wonder what the record for least wins in a season is between both clubs? We could be looking at 145-150 wins between these two teams. http://www.csnchicago.com/blog/cubs-talk/p...amp;feedID=8487 A quick glance showed me 134 wins in 1980. Sox were 70-90 with 2 ties.
  4. Pretty solid stretch of meals this week... Last night - Hugo's Frog Bar Tonight - Club Lucky Friday - Fultons on the River Combined with the X-mas festivities, I should be in a full food coma all of next week
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 11:26 AM) It's not up to Jerry, it's Lovie's call. Lovie probably doesn't want to get the kid killed behind that offensive line. Wouldn't surprise me if Enderle starts against the Vikings next week. The Packers are 26th in the league with 27 sacks. The Vikings are 3rd with 40 and have the individual league leader. Someone is gonna get killed either Sunday. I think Lovie is just playing the still alive for the playoffs card and going with the veteran. I'd rather give Enderle a shot, but I'm sure he will be Hanie-esque so what's the difference?
  6. When that Sloth guy coughed in Seven was the biggest scare the s*** out of me moment ever in a movie for me.
  7. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 01:04 AM) My NFL playoff predictions NFC #3 Saints 35 over #6 Lions 21 #5 Falcons 28 over #4 Cowboys 20 I'm still holding out hope that the Eagles pull out the division, that would be hilarious. They just need to win out & have the Giants lose to the Jets then beat the Cowboys. The Eagles could be dangerous in the playoffs, they obviously have the talent.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 07:35 AM) Throwing away stupid money on a player you may not be able to afford is a quick way to go from being a premier organization to being a floundering organization trying to cut payroll. Exactly. The Red Sox were the premeir organization a few years ago, then they started throwing stupid money at every FA and are definitely in a much worst position right now. (their revenue stream will probably help them survive though)
  9. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) 49ers have some of the best young talent in the game today with Willis, Aldon Smith and several other stars.. I think Kyle Williams will be a big star in the NFL.. Since when did Kenny Williams get an account on Soxtalk?
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 09:24 PM) I agree with Jeff. There's obviously risk. But to continuously lump Yu and Dice-K together because they're both Japanese is silly. Darvish is clearly a better big league prospect than Dice-K was 5 years ago. I'll give the Rangers the benefit of the doubt for now. They haven't done anything wrong since the Tex trade. They also never spent nearly $100 million for a pitcher from Japan in that time frame either. Darvish will probably have some success in the majors, but I doubt he is ever worth anywhere near what the Rangers end up spending for him.
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 05:41 PM) I dont think the league is that different, lets look at the last 5 Super Bowl Champions: 2011- Green Bay Packers (not in top 5 total yards, not in top 5 scoring), Green Bay was actually 10th in total points, #1 was New England. 2010- New Orleans Saints #1 in total offensive points, #1 in total yards 2009- Pittsburgh Steelers 20 in total offensive points, 22 in total yards. 2008- New York Giants, 14 in total offensive points, 16 in total yards 2007- Indianapolis Colts, 3 in total offensive points, 3 in total yards. So in the last 5 years only 2 teams that have won the Super Bowl have been in the top 5 in offense and only 1 time int he last 5 years has the "best" offense, won the Super Bowl. So I dont really see a major difference in the last 5 years. How many of those teams had QBs that were eons better than Dilfer, Alex Smith, & whatever Johnson the 03 Buccs had? It's not necessarily about being the best or highest scoring offense. But you need a team that's able to move the ball down the field quickly in large chunks, that's not something the 49ers excel at right now.
  12. I do realize that Trent Dilfer has won a Super Bowl. Ryan Theriot & Nick Punto both appeared in the starting lineup for the WS champion this October too. I'm not saying the 49ers will never have a chance, but I think in today's NFL you need way more offense than they have. It would be hard for them to beat the Saints, Packers, & Patriots 3 games in a row solely relying on their defense and run game. The league is different now than it was last decade when the Ravens & Buccs were able to ride their defense to the title. Maybe Alex Smith keeps maturingg under Harbaugh? He still has a bit of ways to go though.
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 04:55 PM) When does Quentin officially lose the "T" in TCQ? mid-August 2010
  14. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 04:29 PM) I am hoping that my fav team the 49ers beat the Packers in the playoffs.. I do believe that the 49ers are one year away from a championship You do realize that Alex Smith is their quarterback right?
  15. As happy as I am that the Packers won't finish undefeated, the fact that it brings the '72 Dolphins out of the woodwork makes it a bittersweet moment.
  16. @CharlesRobinson Charles Robinson Key witness refused to cooperate w/ NCAA's Ohio State probe. Had he taken part, sanctions could have been far worse. OSU dodged a bullet. Also, the witness was not Pryor. It was a civilian close to the players. No, the NCAA will not revisit this. The witness had the chance to cooperate. What's done is done. Sanctions are final. This is correct. Witness refused 4 his own safety. RT @brickhauz There's a reason OSU allegations ended unproven. Witness feared 4 his life.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-16262027 Interesting stuff, thanks
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Dixon Meniscus tear in his knee - on IR. I think that injury was in 2010. This year he is just the 3rd QB behind Batch for whatever reason. I think they should at least give him another shot as the backup.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) This is the second time I have seen this reference to the Steelers as being some sort of tough running outfit. They're not. They are a passing team that kills you with their speed at the WR position. I don't agree with J4L much, but he's right on this...the NFL is a passing league and the pass sets up the run, not vice versa. You can certainly succeed with a good running game, but you had better have an outstanding defense to go along with that running game. But when you get into the red zone, or if you get behind, watch out, because your running game isn't so valuable anymore. See 49ers, San Francisco
  20. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 09:20 AM) The problem is that Charlie Batch is the backup, and he would be playing behind the worst OL in the league. Ben holds the ball too long sometimes, but he also takes 15-20 hits a game and keeps on playing. Tomlin had a hobbling Ben in the game with a minute left and the Steeler's down 17 points. Tomlin truly has no idea what he's doing. His only "coaching" is to stand on the sideline with a blank stare and clap occasionally. Whatever happened to Dennis Dixon?
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) You never know, you guys definitely have a strength where mizzou does not: we are undersized. That said Ricardo Ratliffe is playing great D this year and not missing a shot. Well hopefully Leonard can take advantage of that. The results of the last 4 Illini games give me little confidence in the team's chances. Mizzou hasn't had the toughest schedule, but they are beating the crap out of the teams they are playing, not lettingteams like Cornell or St. Bonnies hang around to the end.
  22. How badly are the Illini gonna get destroyed in the Braggin' Rights game on Thursday? It could be a bloodbath.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 09:23 AM) Borque gets two games for his hit on Seabrook. Sounds about right. Seabrook travelled to Pittsburgh and may play tonight.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 08:59 AM) Because most here would agree basing your thoughts of a team on Madden rankings is perfectly acceptable. How do you think Ted Thompson has built the Packers so well? Strictly by Madden rankings.
