  1. From 1956-1964, the Celtics had a minimum of 6 HOFers on their team every year, some years 7 or 8.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) Don't fall for the propaganda. Bill Russell is unequivocally the most overrated figure in NBA history. Right there with the "great" Roger Maris for most overrated, glamorized figure in sports history. He had Joakim Noah's offensive skill-set. His rebounding numbers are totally inflated due to the ridiculous pace teams played back then. He played with 66 Hall of Famers. Dikembe Mutombo saw stiffer competition in a month than Russell saw in 3 years. Centers better than Russell: Wilt, Kareem, Moses, Walton, Shaq, Hakeem, Robinson. Centers arguably better than Russell: Mikan, Ewing, Sabonis. Centers comparable with the same skill-set: Mutombo, Mourning, Ben Wallace, Howard. Players overall better than Bill Russell: MJ, Magic, Bird, West, Duncan, Kobe, Erving, Robertson, Dirk, and some others I'm probably forgetting about. I have to agree that Russell is definitely overrated. Maybe not to the level you think, but overrated, specifically due to the championships. He consistenly had multiple HOFers on his teams. Just because he won with those guys doesn't automatically make him a top-5 player as some seem to think.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) cst_Cowley cst_Cowley Hit unfollow then and take your ass to a shiny, happy place. I'm sure Vanilla Ice across town can make u smile with his no-opinion opinions. Well at least he finally admits they are opinions instead of news. What an awful writer across town. Not giving his opinion, but instead writing facts? How does he keep a job?
  4. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) Because Bill Russell is a top 10 player (conservatively) of all time, and Motumbo wa a one trick pony who blocked shots. LOL, good luck with this argument.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal More than 50 scouts saw Zumaya throw today in Houston. Report from one in attendance: 93-96 mph, decent cb, OK cmd. "He'll get a job." #MLB "And then his arm will fall off again by May."
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) jcrasnick Jerry Crasnick As @Ken_Rosenthal reported, the #RedSox have traded Jed Lowrie and Kyle Weiland to the #Astros for reliever Mark Melancon. Look at the Astros selling high on a closer. With Bard in the rotation, and Papelbon gone, the BoSox definitely needed the bullpen help. I doubt he would close in Boston though.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) The dollar coin is dead http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/bre...0,5476345.story Yet the penny is still alive and everywhere.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 07:35 AM) This is actually a really impressive article. If you're not paying 100% attention, you'll think that the "He was back to the same old Coop" quote is directly attributed to Danks. It takes some nimble writing to pull off a crossup like that. Very impressive. If I didn't re-read that sentence twice, I would have totally thought Danks said that.
  9. Any one watch the pilot for that new HBO show Luck? I was a bit confused as to what was going on, but there seemed to be some intersting plotlines going down. Interested to see what goes on behind the scenes at a track, so probably will give it a whirl next month.
  10. Beckham immediately replied to Cowley saying "WE WILL SEE JOE"
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) Sounds like Willingham to the Twins. Good, rather not have to face Cuddyer 18 games (however, I could see the Indians being interested in him). That's a good signing, I think Willingham's a bit underrated as a power hitter. That being said, he is doing himself no favors with his choice of home park, first Oakland, now Target field.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) I am wondering about all the Oz love. Maybe he's a pro's pro. What Oz love? No one else wants Rowand, and Buehrle, Reyes, & Bell took the highest contracts offered.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) I'm convinced Cardinals don't think Pujols will be able to stay healthy and/or not deteriorate mightily 6-10 years from now. I think it was definitely in their best interest to let him go. Not having a DH definitely plays a part in it
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) In this case I believe Mrs Pujols. The cards low-balled a guy who would have stayed for a discount. Pretty big mistake. I don't believe her at all. I think she is bothered by some of the fan backlash Sir Albert has received, so she is trying to say whatever she can to help garner some support.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 03:00 PM) Watch for Omar to be next to Florida The combination of Florida's manager & Reyes' recent injury history = lots of playing time for Mr. Vizquel.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 02:38 PM) His injury history is the big reason he got so little money in general. It makes a comparison with Frasor moot. I don't think I realized he was gonna be 42 next season.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) Presumably the fact that he only threw 26 innings last year and didn't pitch much until July has something to do with it. I guess so, but the injury was a calf/hamstring problem, not any arm issues that could cause concern. He came back in mid July and was lights out. Just surprised that he cost AZ so little.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) Saito getting 1.75 million on the open market pisses me off even more about Frasor's terrible option being picked up. I wonder more why Saito only got so little? LaTroy got $3, Rauch got $3.5. He's better than both of them. His highest ERA in a season is 2.83. (I realize relief ERA isn't the best statistic, but it's still impressive)
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) lovers I LOLed
  20. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) Jimmy was an interesting character and he will be hard to replace. I hope his air time isn't replace with drama about Margaret. I am also wondering how they will keep Van Alden an important part of the show now that he is no longer with the bureau and in Illinois. He is quite an interesting guy as well. I like that this show isn't afraid to take chance, I just hope they pan out. Oh and Eli is a b****. I hope he gets whats coming to him So is Al Capone
  21. QUOTE (Espy.Teahen @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) fixed that for you. get your hater glasses off. You guys are like a tebow hater cult over here. Why so much hate? All he does is win. Until he starts losing, it is fact. Mark Sanchez is 4-2 in road playoff games. That doesn't make him a good quarterback either.
  22. QUOTE (Espy.Teahen @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) "Everyone says he struggles throwing the ball. What I saw last night, he had no problems throwing the ball,He threw the ball extremely well when I was watching." - Tom Brady Do you really expect Tom Brady to come out and disrespect a fellow QB that he is facing this week?
  23. QUOTE (Espy.Teahen @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) It definitely started working when the Bears started getting winded in the cold mile high air. But who cares about silly things like that. It worked because Marion Barber went out of bounds like a doofus. It worked because Caleb Hanie is not an NFL quarterback. It worked because Von Miller is a beast and the Denver Broncos defense is playing outstanding football. All 3 of those factors had way more to do with the victory than Tim Tebow. But who cares about silly things like that.
  24. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) I really dislike him, so I obviously can't wait for his true-to-life ending. I just liked his calm, deliberateness with business. I wonder what happens with Jimmy's mom? She was f***ing Lucky, I wonder if they keep her around in that role, maybe she tries to stay in the business despite what happened.
  25. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 09:20 AM) I'm hoping season 3 and 4 focuses on the rise of Capone and Luciano, with Nucky's Atlantic City still being the focal point. I think they'll also have Harold Remus play a part since he was such a major figure during actual prohibition. If anyone hasn't watched the Ken Burns 3 part series on prohibition, i'd recommend it. It gives a lot of real background information that's interesting, but also relevant to some of the few characters introduced in the show (Remus, Esther Randolph, etc) I'm a fan of Arnold Rothstein's character, hope they keep him in the mix a lot as well. He's obviously a real-life character too.
