  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 09:16 AM) johnhollinger John Hollinger One other note: I'd rather play out the year with Dwight Howard than take that pile of garbage New Jersey is offering. No love for D-Will? He put up 50 in Turkey!
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 08:48 AM) So if the Heat had won last year Gilbert wouldn't feel the exact same way? I doubt he gives a s*** about LeBron anymore. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) And everytime a superstar forces his way out of a small market, it makes it less likely that he will get a superstar to stay in his s***hole of Cleveland. It was more of a sarcastic post. Obviously despite his rants last offseason, he does need to look out for his s***ty franchise first and foremost.
  3. Dan Gilbert needs to realize that these trades make it less likely that LeBron gets a ring. It's not like his Cavs are gonna win anytime soon.
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:21 PM) He's coached zero games. I don't give a f*** about buzz, I care about winning games. We'll see if he can do it or not. Judging it now is stupid. BTW, Ron Zook was a "big name" or "buzz" hire. I'm not going to get all pissy just because it's not one of the big names being thrown out. Only time will tell. Well said. The new AD has a good history of hiring coaches like this, let's give it a chance. Sumlin was the "hot name", but that doesn't necessarily make him a good coach. Plus, it's Illinois football, I think people need to lower their expectations sometimes.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 07:28 AM) All of the old ND alums hated him because Charlie chose to spend a lot of time in the community, especially with disadvantaged kids, instead of schmoozing with a bunch of rich assholes who think they're entitled to everything in the world. Those people are why the rest of the country hates ND. If Kansas has any alums like that, they're probably drooling all over Bill Self and will leave Charlie alone. Helping kids in the community doesn't automatically disqualify you from being a jackass, and people from everywhere pretty much label him one. I don't know, maybe they are just jealous. ND alums are like that, but pissing in the face of ex-players is no way to run a college football program.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 06:42 AM) He is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Unfortunately, I think he's too nice to be a college head coach because he's not cutthroat enough to succeed at recruiting, and if he couldn't succeed at recruiting at ND, I have a hard time seeing him do it well at Kansas. If he does find some way to get good players, especially on offense, he sure will coach them up to perform on the field. I think his calling in life is to be an NFL offensive coordinator, and I have no idea why he didn't just stick with that once things didn't work out at ND. I do like to remind my Michigan friends that Tom Brady has won zero Super Bowls without his ND offensive coordinator. Really? Everything I ever heard at ND was that he was a pompous ass who was full of himself. All of the old ND alums hated him because he thought his s*** didn't stink. Either way, the Weis hiring has been good comedy through most of the NCAA. Then again, it's Kansas football, you can't expect to hire much better. Oh, and greg, there is a NCAA football thread for topics just like these where this has already been mentioned.
  7. dan_bernstein Dan Bernstein #NBA has just voided the Cubs/Rockies trade. Stern: "Underachievers exchanged for each other is just too sad to be allowed."
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) You lost me when you brought Greg Oden into this. What the hell? Greg Oden's knees are the reason Dunn is a bum. Then we lost Mark Buehrle Ozzie will won WS in Florida too. Hall of Famer!
  9. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) Minus the results. To match the Yankees results, they only need 1 WS title during the span of Albert's contract.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) That would make sense if he signed say, with the Cardinals? Or Chicago. With the offers on the table for both guys, it just worked out differently than I imagined back in October. I thought Wilson was easily gone to the highest bidder and Mark would still end up close or at least signed to a smaller deal, not to such a large one in Florida.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) If only his preferred team offered him a deal like Wilson's did. If only his preferred team didn't have $43 million locked up in 3 major underachievers, maybe they would have?
  12. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) ScottMCBSSports: Marlins offered Wilson $98-$99 million over 6 years. "If it was about the money, I'd be a Florida Marlin," Wilson said I would have assumed Mark would have been the FA to say that, not Wilson.
  13. If this is true, whoa! BNightengale Bob Nightengale The Miami #Marlins actually outbid the #Angels for Pujols, offering 10-year, $275 million deal, sources confirm. Story to come.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) Well, actually that isn't that bad. $15 million dollars seems to be the going rate for a decent starter nowadays (as stupid as that is), but the 5 years might be what hurts. Yeah, I expected worse. It sounds like he took less money than Florida was offering because he is from LA. He possibly could have had $100 million.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) What is their payroll going to be? I count $116 million for only Pujols, Wells, Hunter, Wilson, Weaver, Haren, Santana. That still leaves 18 more roster spots
  16. Great, Sandusky out on bail again. Probably headed straight to the sporting goods store to buy more PSU gear, the sick bastard.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:02 AM) ChiTribSports ChiTribSports Shane Battier says he will sign with Miami Heat Awesome. That's like the exact type of player they were missing last year.
  18. That's gonna be a bad contract IMO, whatever the terms are
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:40 AM) Would you rather rely on Freese, Craig, and Jay, or Beckham, Rios, and Dunn to be key offensive producers. That Holliday deal in particular now looks awful. Freese, Craig, & Jay probably. I'm not saying that their offense won't miss a beat without him. But to use the term "completely screwed" is wrong. They can still compete for the NL Central in 2012.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) But they are also completely screwed in the short term. I disagree with that. They are still in a weaker divisioon with a pretty damn good starting rotation. If Freese, Craig, & Jay can improve on or at least maintain their 2011 seasons, they will still have some bats. Obviously it's not the same lineup, but they aren't suddenly the Astros.
  21. Pujols is about to turn 32. When A-Rod signed his 10-year deal, he was 32.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:12 AM) Makes a little more sense, as he can DH the last 5 years when he's a senior citizen. I wouldn't be surprised to see Trumbo traded to Cubs now. Trumbo rocked an under .300 OBP last year. Isn't that against everything Sir Theo believes in?
  23. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!..........who is Terry Doyle?
