Whoa. I thought there was no way he would leave St. Louis, especially after just winning the title.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 07:12 AM) I'm about 80 miles from Cincinnati, so if anybody wants to joint me to see Mark's first game with Miami, let me know. I'd assume he's gotta be in the top 3 in their rotation, right? Maybe #4. Johnson/Sanchez/Nolasco are already there -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) So like, is Illinois ever going to hire someone? Sounds like they are in a bidding war for Sumlin with A&M. (Or at least Sumlin is using the Illini to get more money from the Aggies) -
KW and SOX fans are to blame for this mess..

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 12:53 AM) ...and straight back to irrelevance. Damn those irrelevant Blackhawks selling out every single game and having the 2nd most points in hockey. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 01:32 AM) Wow did the Brewers screw up by offering KRod their arbitration. Basically is going to end up costing them the chance to sign Aramis Ramirez and Latroy Hawkins. Also, it looks bad for KW when Hawkins signs for less than what Frasor will get. Most expensive set-up guy ever

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/blog/sox-drawer/...43714296662-914 He gave them every chance to keep him. No, he gave them every chance to give him a counter offer, of which there was no guarantee he would accept. I'm sure he would have accepted a bit of a hometown discount, but exactly how much less? If the Sox could only afford 3/$27, I doubt he stays in Chicago instead of going to Miami. With the recent bad seasons & the Terrible Trio's contracts, I'm not sure the Sox thought they could offer him a fair market offer. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) Did you read the interview with Oz in this edition of espn the magazine? I like Oz more and more after reading it. People that say I'm a sugary Sox homer won't have a problem with me this year cause I despise Kenny and definitely will not be defending Robin as he learns on the job. What if he tells the media funny jokes every day? -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 08:43 PM) Brandon Allen? He's not there anymore. They gave up on him. Oh yeah, I forgot, oops. Was more of a sarcastic trade proposal anyway.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 08:40 PM) The Diamondbacks are willing to trade prospects. Good trade partners for the White Sox? Maybe they'll send some of their prospects for Danks, Floyd or Thornton. Hudson, Allen, C. Young for Danks, Floyd, Thornton??? Deal.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) This whole thread is ridiculous. Buehrle has said the same types of things that EVERY ATHLETE IN THE HISTORY OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS has said about money. It would be the corollary to an athlete saying, "F--- my family, I'm going where the union and my agent tell me to go, for the most years, and the most dollars." No Buehrle hasn't at all. That's what was so awesome about him, that he talked about how the money wasn't that important, how he could retire early, how just being close to home and close to family matters. Obviously $58 million quickly changed his opinion about that. Very few athletes talk like Buehrle did though. Most athletes aren't afraid to admit they just want the most money possible in free agency. (There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, especially since careers can end so quick.) -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 07:58 PM) There's huge danger if the team fails and/or the people stop coming to the games. If guys are owed too much money, their contract is their no trade clause. If Reyes averages 100 games a year, he doesn't need a no trade clause. Which will happen because it's Miami and only college football & NASCAR matter down there. The Heat were having trouble selling out playoff games this year. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) Is this contract backloaded? Reyes' contract is and supposedly so was the one offerred to Pujols. I get the feeling Loria wants a couple of years in the new park and then wants to sell. There is a reason why Loria refuses to offer no-trade clauses. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) So um... I missed #36. It's fixed now. Dark Helmet!!!! I haven't seen that movie in years, I wonder if I would still consider it as funny.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:46 PM) Yeah thats weird. I wonder if Martz is back in play. How is Martz in play for these college jobs? It's not his football coaching skills I'd be worried about it, it's his recruiting and dealing with kids. He's in his 60s, has been in the NFL for a while, seems to be stubborn. That just doesn't seem like an ideal college head coach. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) What exactly did he say? Go back and read the articles. All the guy said over and over was how much he wanted to be here. The thought of hitting free agency worried him enough that he thought about hanging it up before leaving this area and this team. Then free agency hit and other teams showed him love and appreciation. The White Sox organization didnt feel the same this time around unfortunately. That's not true. The White Sox can't afford him because they f***ed up on so many other contracts. Hey Mark, we appreciate you, here's 3 yrs, $30 million. Do you think he accepts that? No way. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) Which one of those teams made him an offer? It pretty easy: NONE The White Sox had every chance to extend the guy even before he hit the market. They didnt think it was a priority apparently. The offers Chicago/St. Louis could afford were nothing compared to what Miami offered.
