  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) Seconded. One of the best people to ever wear the Sox uni. He wanted nothing more than to end his career here and unfortunately mgmt had other ideas. Or Miami had 58 million other ideas. The Sox management couldn't hand the guy a blank check
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) This is infuriating. When will KW be fired. Mark picks Oz. What a joke of an organization. And where was Jerry to intervene in this one?? And express Paulie-like love for Mark? Cheapass owner. This comment immediately takes away all credibility from anything else in your post.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) So what? The man gave us reasonable contracts before, and doesn't want to play on a rebuilding team. Another team is throwing money at him. That doesn't make him immoral to take the best deal. It's not immoral, and most people would do the same thing. I don't blame him whatsoever. It's just hypocritical of most of his previous comments during his times with the White Sox. Just disappointed personally, but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
  4. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 04:34 PM) lol yeah ok i forgot we live in a magical world of black and white where there can only be ONE reason and ONE reason alone for making any given decision. Thanks for the reminder. If you follow professional sports at all, there usually is ONE reason & ONE reason only why players make decisions during free agency. Mark signing with the Marlins proves that point once again.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 04:03 PM) Looking forward to greg and elrockins/sunofgold's reactions. Those should be doozies. Oh god. Especially after this Ozzie quote: "that means we're showing people they want to play for us, for me." It's all about playing for you Ozzie, nothing to do with the money at all.
  6. 1. Thank god the Sox didn't sign him to that deal, way too much $$$ & years 2. Taking the most money down in Florida = 100% hypocritical of what he has always said 3. Good luck Mark & thanks for all the success in a Sox jersey
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Buehrle to Marlins likely means Pujols to Cards, Wilson to Angels and Fielder to Cubs I could see the Rangers making a late move for Fielder
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) Bail is dependent on multiple factors, one of them being flight risk. The bond for Sandusky was obviously good enough because he didnt run, which is the purpose of a bond. Is potential danger to society a factor?
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) They managed to move guys like Lowell and Delgado. 2 really healthy years would render that movable again. True, I guess untradeable is a bit strong. If his injury problems continue though, that's another story. To move Lowell, the Marlins had to include Beckett, and Delgado was still a pretty good hitter for the Mets after the trade.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) I dont recall anyone offering him 10 million dollars last season. Mark is one of the two top FA pitchers on the marketplace, he cant go and sign for league min somewhere. He was very adamant about staying in Chicago, so the only other official offer out there was for $3.5 million from the White Sox. But he pitched well in New York, and there were reports that he turned down multi-year deals from them & the BoSox among others. Considering what other relievers signed for, over $10 mil for 2 seasons was market value at the least.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:15 PM) Lot of fluff there outside of this. Once again, where are the offers close to home? FYI, he cant take something ridiculously low because he is part of a union. Can he take something under market value to stay close to home? Probably. Are there offers out there from those teams? Nope. Kerry Wood signed $1.5 million to stay in Chicago last season, when he could have gotten at least $10 mil in a multi-year deal from the Yanks or someone else.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) I truly think Jerry's been burned by the buck so often under Kenny, he's now just salivating over getting the payroll back down to pennies. Sox aren't in position anymore to win anything of significance so why not save tons of money? I'd be shocked if Paulie wasn't dealt. I can't believe AJ is still around. Who exactly is interested in trading for AJ? There's no market for him, he is staying
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) KenDavidoff Ken Davidoff Breakdown of Reyes contract with #Marlins: $10 mil, $10 mil, $16 mil, $22 mil, $22 mil, $22 mil. $$22 mil option on '18 with $4 mil buyout. Whoa. So the Marlins don't officially give out no-trade clauses, but who the f*** would trade for Reyes at age 32 with 3 yrs, $66 mil left on his contract?
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 02:20 AM) Good column by Rogers. Oxymoron
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 08:25 AM) jonmorosi Jon Morosi Frank Francisco's deal with #Mets is 12M over two years, source says. mlbtraderumors MLB Trade Rumors Mets Reach Agreement With Jon Rauch WTF? That combo didn't go very well for Toronto, what makes the Mets think it will work?
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) One hilarious scene, with another complete downer of an episode. Pretty awful. When it turned out that Robin's kids weren't real, it made it that much worse. Thanks for wasting 23 minutes of my life, when I want family drama, I watch Parenthood with the wife.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) I love the back story of Jimmy Darmody in this past week's episode of Boardwalk Empire. God his mother is a straight up freak. That whole family has been such an interesting storyline. There has always seem to be something bothering Jimmy, when the show started they played it off as his experience in Europe during the War, but slowly the truth came out.
  18. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 10:04 PM) But then who pitches for the Orioles? Maybe they'll just let other teams setup a T. How would that be any different than what they did last year?
  19. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) I don't know. You think people maybe think Danks is a more proven pitcher? Has post season mettle and has pitched his entire career thus far in a tough park for pitchers. Gio, while having electric stuff, hasn't done it but for 1 year plus he did it in Oakland (pitcher friendly park). A move of Danks better yield a very nice haul. Danks could easily slot into the #2 or #3 spot in nearly any rotation and be counted on. His home/road splits the last two years are pretty significant, but a ~3.50 ERA on the road in the AL is still pretty damn solid.
  20. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) Probably Peavy... Pitchers on the DL aren't eligible to start on Opening Day
  21. Top 3 choices: (other than Chicago) 1. Seattle 2. Austin 3. Denver
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 08:42 PM) It is supposedly for a reliever. Thornton & Rios for Bay? That would save the Sox a year of an awful contract
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 08:32 PM) Holy f***, Fuji apples are delicious. Honeycrisp apples are better
  24. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) If KW was to give up on Ethier, Gonzalez, Hudson and Nelson Cruz like the overrated guy has, this site would be b****ing for many years.. Fortunately for him, the Athletics barely have any fans, so he doesn't have to worry about the b****ing.
