  1. QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) New York Times reporting Paterno is out Definitely won't coach next season. Still not official if he will finish this one. I guess Matt Millen was crying on SportsCenter in support of Penn State
  2. Penn State cancels Paterno's weekly press conference that was supposed to start in under an hour. The media had already been lining up outside.
  3. For some reason I have always just assumed that they would work out a deal with Mark. If all these reports are true, it sounds like he is probably gone. That sucks.
  4. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 09:45 AM) That sounds like a f***in' win to me. Oops! Maybe, he's the new Jamie Moyer????
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 09:44 AM) So if we are the last wild card we go into Green Bays bracket if we win the wild card weekend game? Ugh, that's not any better. But if they are the 1st wild card, and the 3rd division winner beats the other wild card, you are in Green Bay's bracket anyway. The only way to avoid them is if both wild cards pull the upset, then the better wild card goes to San Fran.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 07:00 AM) Now that the Bears have the tiebreaker edge over ATL, TB, and PHI, they really should be fine getting in at 10-6. I figure there will be five games where the Bears are favored (SD, KC, @DEN, SEA, @MIN) so they may not even have to beat Detroit to make it in, especially since the game at Oakland should be winnable as well. It would be nice to split with Detroit and tie them in record since they still have 2 vs. GB and have to go to New Orleans. That being said, I don't think it is a must-win anymore. As long as the Saints win the South, Dallas is the only potential playoff team that the Bears would have to worry about the tiebreaker.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 07:54 AM) One thing I hate about MNF is the length of the game. 3.5 hours for a football game? Come on. You don't need a 2.5 minute time out after a kickoff, or punt, or timeout, or injury etc. Get the guys on the field and playing the f***ing game. And they are way too damn positive about each player. Jaworski just loves every single player and they are all so awesome at football. Be critical once in a while.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 08:35 AM) The WRs were awful last night. Cutler probably had at least 150 yards left on the field because of drops. Williams was just the cherry on top of the cake. Well except for Earl Bennet, but yeah, every other WR had at least one bad play.
  9. Front page of the Harrisburg Patriot-News. Great editorial IMO.
  10. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 02:06 AM) So I'm looking at spending 2 weeks in New York in May next year with about 8-9 friends, and we're looking at renting an apartment for all of us. Does anyone have any recommendations on particular web-sites / companies to look at? http://www.vrbo.com/
  11. Are we all talking about the same Jonathan Sanchez? I see a pitcher who already turns 29 next season. Four full seasons in a huge pitchers park in the NL West, he had one great season, and three seasons with an ERA of higher than 4.20. I get that he strikes a lot of people out, but he also has a higher walk rate than anyone else in baseball. What makes people think he will suddenly gain control of his pitches in Kansas City? I'm not saying the Royals made a bad trade, they definitely sold high on Melky. But they got a pitcher who can't throw strikes & is not getting any older. The Giants weren't going to pay Sanchez next year anyway, they have enough starting pitching, and their offense is so bad, Melky is still an upgrade. It makes sense why both teams made the trade, but I don't think any team is an obvious winner
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 06:34 AM) last night when the ESPN crew were making their picks, they were all laughing at Ditka for picking the Bears. Cris Carter says, "The Eagles have Asomugha, watch out Cutler". Whatever, Asomugha was irrelevant for the entire game I disagree. He did have a red-zone pass interference penalty called on him in the 4th. What a game by the Bears. They out-coached, out-played, out-hustled the Eagles. If it wasn't for Forte's fumbles, that game would not have been as close in the 4th. If they can keep it up vs. DET at home, they will be looking good in the wild card race.
  13. 4.26 ERA in the NL in one of the biggest pitchers parks in the league? Good luck with that KC. Unless they can figure out a way to teach him to throw strikes.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) http://network.yardbarker.com/college_bask...refmod=backyard Top 25 hotties list. About half of those chicks are nowhere near being considered hotties.
  15. I'd much rather see Frolik or Kruger on the 2nd PP line instead of Carcillo
  16. QUOTE (onedude @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) How about video game villians? My childhood nemesis, King Koopa!
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 6, 2011 -> 06:58 PM) Aaron Rodgers. 5 incompletions. 4 touchdowns. Big deal. Phillip Rivers threw 6 touchdowns in that same game.
  18. I know that Bad Rex can cost you games, but at least the Redskins scored points with him out there. They can barely even score with Beck starting.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) It says on Yahoo that Thome is going to the Phillies for 1.25 million. Two questions: 1.) Why would the Phillies want a DH on their team?? For the games against the AL? Seems dumb to have a roster spot for a guy who is basically a pinch hitter. 2.) Why would an old vet like Thome want to sit the bench all season? I know baseball isn't a real job and a million bucks is great, but isn't there some AL team that could use him as a part time DH? Or full time DH? Twins maybe?? Indians maybe?? Isn't it pretty obvious? He wants to win a WS and the Phillies will be favorites in the NL again?
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) If we're going to use that as an argument against m-56, then we pretty much shouldn't sign anyone, ever, because that statement can be applied more strongly to almost everyone else. Definitely not, I am all for re-signing Mark. That was just a response to greg's overpay comment, that at his age Mark could be a FA bust just like some of the other recent signings. I am willing to take the chance though.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 07:44 PM) Carcillo with the play on both ends. WOW! The poke check was nice, but that was one of the ugliest breakaways I have ever seen. He was sitting on that backhand for a couple seconds, somehow Roloson didn't realize that.
  22. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) The NBA doesn't have anything that matches the first two rounds of the NCAA tourney for me. I don't think any sport has anything that matches the first 2 rounds, not even the juggernaut NFL.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) Heaven forbid the Sox overpay for somebody who actually would earn the money. Will he though? There are no guarantees he does.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) Bengals D is good, we knew that going into the season. Bears fans are the last fans that should rub strength of schedule into team analysis. I like the bengals at that line. I"LL GUARANTEE THAT LINE WITH NO CONSEQUENCES. http://espn.go.com/nfl/standings/_/type/pl...dule/order/true The Bears currently have the 7th toughest strength of schedule, while the Bengals have the 3rd easiest. If you are referring to last season, I think all Bears fans readilly admitted that team had some luck on its side.
  25. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) Anyone's D would look good against Browns, Seahawks, Colts and Denver. Colt McCoy Kyle Orton Alex Smith Ryan Fitzpatrick Blaine Gabbert Curtis Painter Charlie Whitehurst/Tarvarias Jackson That's a muderers row of quarterbacks they have faced so far.
