  1. This has probably been discussed, but how do you win in Norman, then lose by 34 at home to the Cyclones??? WTF?
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 08:58 PM) I think this is one of the stupidest posts I have ever seen. How? Did the Cardinals not just win the World Series? Didn't those trades just have a major effect on their playoff run? Did you see the Cardinals bullpen from April til July?
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 09:08 PM) Lmao@ this thread. This reminds of the time last year when I was at this party at ISU and multiple alcohol-induced fights broke out. I just stood there and watched. It was oh so fun., Everyone seems to forget that AA traded for the best CF ever, the guy with the career .754 OPS.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 08:42 PM) Anyone want to put together a prediction thread for free agents? Pujols to STL
  5. Watched Beavis & Butt-Head last night. The videos were absolutely hilarious, I was cracking up the whole time. The episodes themselves when they are up to their shenanigans in Highland were not as funny. They had their moments, but parts of them seemed like they would have been funnier back when I was in high school. Overall though, very pleased with the return.
  6. -"I eat pieces of s*** like you for breakfast." -"You eat pieces of s*** for breakfast??" -"UH, UH....NO!!!!" Happy. Gilmore.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) Oh come on...that's ridiculous. It's quite possible that Colby Rasmus may contribute far more to the Blue Jays' than the players received by the Cardinals, even though the Cardinals went on to win the World Series. Maybe Zach Stewart goes on to win 18 games in 2014 for the White Sox and is the Postseason MVP as they capture the World Series. Are you going to come back then and say the White Sox won the trade the most? The trade worked out well for the Cardinals, and for the Blue Jays and White Sox, it's still a work in progress...but to say that because the Cardinals happened to win the WS this year, that they have and always and forever are the clear winners of the trade is not possible. That's like saying if Kate Winslet didn't play Rose in Titanic it would have never won Best Picture. Yes, it worked out with her in the role, but there is no telling that it wouldn't have done just as well or better with a different female lead. Absolutely. I will find this thread the day after the clincher once I sober up. When the trade happened, everyone said the Blue Jays had committed highway robbery & the Cardinals were the dumbest team ever. Looking back at hindsight, the trade solidified the Cards pitching staff, they got hot and won the wild card by a single game, and ended up as champs. We still don't know if Colby Rasmus is more Matt Kemp or more like Brian Anderson. Right now, the Cardinals are the big winners of this trade. Period. Your analogy doesn't work cause we saw what the Cardinals looked like before the trade, and plus Titanic should have never won Best Picture, no matter who the female lead was.
  8. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) There's no real way to prove that they wouldn't have won without him just as well. The point is, to say the Cardinals "won" in the trade simply because they "won the series" is just cause-and-effect bulls*** that cannot be proven. The Sox didn't lose in that trade, regardless. The Sox weren't going to win the WS (let alone the division) with EJ and Tehen anyway, so getting rid of both and getting anything in return, as far as I'm concerned, is a win for the White Sox in that trade. So in saying the Cards won in that trade and the Sox lost is simply disingenuous. To say otherwise is just baseball dumb. It's baseball dumb to say that the trade didn't directly contribute to the Cards winning the WS. They had lost 7 of the last 8 games McClellan had started when they traded for EJax to replace him. Their bullpen had cost them countless games all year and needed to be shaken up. I never said the White Sox made a bad trade or that they shouldn't have made it. But in the long run, it will probably be an inconsequential trade for them. The trade directly contributed to a World Series title for St. Louis. Winner!
  9. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 10:19 AM) Stop making sense. I'll break this down so you can understand it like the rest of the negative anything the White Sox do gang on Soxtalk... The Cardinals won the world series because they got Edwin Jackson. You know, because of his posted 1-1 postseason record with that awesome 5.60 ERA he posted and all. Without him, the Cards had no chance. Even though, to be fair, he pitched well in the WS. They didn't win because of him. At least, that's what a few people are saying right now. Which makes them what I call completely and totally baseball dumb. They may not have made the playoffs without him, he filled the hole at the back of their rotation. They went 9-4 in games he started including 5-1 in Septemeber. He won an elimination game vs. Philly in game 4 of the NLDS. Their bullpen was garbage most of the season, and Dotel & Rzepczynski helped stabilize it and stop blowing so many games. Scrabble got some huge outs vs lefties in the playoffs and Dotel owns Ryan Braun. Without those 3 guys, odds are they don't complete the comeback and make the playoffs, let alone win it all. I'm not saying that the Blue Jays & White Sox are idiots for making this trade or that they have regrets. But the Cardinals won the WS as a direct result from this trade. They won.
  10. 3-7 inches of snow in State College today? That should make for an interesting game between two struggling offenses.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 01:38 AM) Are people finally going to admit the NL inferior league stuff is crap? Two years in a row now. The NL isn't weaker than the AL. If it is, then why does the NL keep winning the f***ing WS? LOL, it's one 7-game series. Look at interleague play, which is a much larger 252-game sample size which comprises of all the teams. The NL hasn't won interleague play since 2003.
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 08:03 AM) Is that legit? I was honestly curious but thought he was the new Cubs GM. When you asked the question, I thought so too. But Hoyer didn't become Padres GM til October 2009. Kevin Towers was there from 1995-2009, so he made the Freese/Edmonds trade, but is now in Arizona.
  13. Is it now safe to say the Cardinals were winners in this trade?
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) Where is the Padres GM that traded David Freese for a 40 year old Jim Edmonds? In Arizona as the GM of the division champion D'Backs?
  15. Better hope the Hawks never play Carolina in the playoffs. They obviously won't stand a chance on the road, crazy they haven't won there yet. Just one of those games, move on to the UC Saturday night.
  16. Pirates are #8, Islanders are #10, Thrashers were #11. I'm sure that makes their fans feel much better about their team's recent ineptitude.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) Didnt he also do that in game 2 in the 8th inning and then blow it in the 9th? Maybe I am blurring it a bit. Politte went 1-2-3 in the 8th with a K of Berkman. Then Bobby came out in the 9th.
  18. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 01:03 PM) Due to a bad wrist, Matt Holliday has been replaced on the roster by Adron Chambers. Allen Craig will start in left today. Advantage Cardinals
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 09:32 AM) Hockey season is the biggest problem during their regular season. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) You're right, I didn't even think of that one. That basically makes a compressed regular season nearly impossible I'd bet. Wait a second. Did you guys just agree on something????
  20. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 12:26 AM) Here's a video game style box score. WIN was up 6-2. Then PHI was up 7-6. And then WIN pulls it out 9-8 with a minute left. http://www.nhl.com/ice/boxscore.htm?id=2011020128 Wow, that's awesome. I miss Andrew Ladd. So much for that franchise goalie Philly.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) Oh man, Beavis & Butt-Head... I was LOLing so hard. Awesome to hear. Was out to dinner late and then got stuck watching that boring sporting event in St. Louis. With B&B, Parks & Rec, the League on the DVR, Blackhawks in Carolina, & Game 7, tonight should be an epic night to spend hours on the couch in front of the tube.
  22. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 07:12 AM) Sucks that one team has to lose. I really hope for a well played game where one team goes out and wins it, no scapegoats, no errors, no fluky crap or bad calls. Good luck with that. I think every game in this series has had at least one of those happen. It hasn't been the prettiest series, but it's been damn exciting.
  23. Wow, what a game. It's funny how a game that was played poorly on so many levels will be considered such a classic.
