  1. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 11:23 PM) All good points, but the Steve Perry connection??? - can i play the 'cmon' argument? Hard to argue with Journey....
  2. Do you really have to ask this question?? In 1917 the Sox won it all. In the 88 years after that, they made the playoffs 5 times, the WS 2 times, and that's it. Zero championships. That's a struggling franchise. Until 2005. Look at how people adore Ditka in Chicago. He won one Super Bowl but should have won more with the teams he had. He is royalty around here. If the Cubs ever win it all, their manager or GM could pull an OJ two years after, and most of Chicago would forgive him.
  3. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 10:17 PM) Whatever it takes. If nothing else AR is a better fielder, better hitter, fan favorite, and the clubhouse leader (along with Crede) who had a helluva lot more to do with our 2005 season than Ozzie Fu€kin Guillen. Not to mention that lazy, stupid, POS Alex Rios, who flat out sucks. Do it KW - zero downside 1. You realize they both are AR, right? 2. Better Fielder? I don't know about that. I remember some bad reads late in 2005 that hurt the Sox late vs Cleveland. 3. Better Hitter? Yeah, Rios has been that bad this year, but overall I'd rather take my chances on the more talented one 4. Fan Favorite? Yes, 2005, that's why Ozzie should never be fired, blah blah blah 5. Clubhouse Leader? Do you really think the guys in the clubhouse will give a f*** about Aaron Rowand? A player who got cut with a large salary by a team in contention? Just because 3 guys on the roster played with him 6 years ago? His clubhouse leadership is doing great in SF. Alex Rios sucks and his contract is awful, but let's not act like the same isn't true about Rowand. The Giants are eating over $12 mil of his contract just to keep him off their roster.
  4. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 09:33 PM) Haha the article in the Trib about that cracked me up. I understand it completely, but I'm surprised what the players and coaches were saying about that. Comes off like they are scared of good teams. Ha, I made that post before I opened the Trib at home. Pretty solid front page with the I-0. The thing is we are talking Illinois football, not Ohio State, not Oregon. If you really want to schedule Mizzou, go ahead, but give the team some time to get focused, get confident.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 05:21 PM) Bernstein just played 5 minutes of Peavy after the game. --blamed the live park, guys hitting the ball to left field. Not that he was hit hard. --blames himself for the relief appearance. probably set him back because his arm is dead. --can't wait for the winter, so he can have a regular offseason This guy should be shut down TO-DAY. Enough. Just get Humber and Santiago up here, and finish off the season without this guy. Wow. Excuses, excuses. The rah-rah-rah guy can't handle the fact that he flat out sucks. All your energy and encouragement cant help when you give up 6 in the 1st.
  6. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) A-Row no mo. Two leftovers from the steroid era left to dry
  7. It's not even feasible. The Giants have decided to eat the $12 mil left on Rowand's contract just to get him off the roster. Rios is still owed nearly $40 milion for the next 3 years. Either way, I don't know if Rowand would be an improvement.
  8. 1st time in like 5 years, the Illini don't have to open with Mizzou. 1-0 here we come!!!!
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:24 PM) I've said this before, but it's just a dagger to know how close the Cubs were to getting both Peavy and Dunn. We were that close to Fukudome. Although his contract looks excellent compared to Dunn's at the present moment
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 01:25 PM) espnchijon jon greenberg “@jonmorosi: #Braves are looking for bench upgrades before tomorrow's deadline, sources say.” Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Braves get Matt Diaz for Ptbnl, from PIT
  11. Pierre lf, lillibridge 1b, PK dh, Rios cf, Ramirez ss, Viciedo rf, Flowers c, Morel 3b, Beckham 2b
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 08:12 AM) The park is OK. It has some good unique features, and others that made me scratch my head. The worst part about it is that it is in Detroit, and where you have to drive through to get there. In all seriousness do not wander around anywhere but where the park is. If you stay in a hotel stay in the burbs, or have some fun, get your passport, and stay in Windsor. You can still have some fun in Windsor, but it's not what it used to be. It seems to be suffering from the same economic issues as Detroit. I was there in February for a bachelor party.
  13. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 07:54 AM) Nice and I'm off. Isn't this diamond guy the one time cubs prospect? No, that's Thomas Diamond. He actually just was in the Twins system, but is out of baseball now. This is Scott Diamond, a Canadian rookie making his 3rd ML start. The Indians & Tigers both beat him, would be nice if the Sox kept pace and did the same.
  14. f***ing Rios catching the ball on his side like he's Soriano
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) Time for Fister to start sucking Those damn big pitchers parks. Comerica is no Safeco, but it definitely still helps him.
  16. I think Beckham's D is gonna buy him some time to figure it out at the plate
  17. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) i saw a lost twins fan in Union station today maybe it was Justin Morneau? Those concussions are still getting to him.
  18. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) Yeah normally they're down for coming. Almost a for sure thing they'll win the series usually. I don't think its mostly fans coming from Minnesota, it's just transplants in Chicago. That's how it always seems for the Tigers
  19. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:15 PM) s***. f*** the Twins.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:07 PM) 25k with Twins in town, but I bet their fans don't care anymore. Good point, those recent Tigers game had a loud opposing fanbase
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) Sad crowd tonight...21k You expected better?
