  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 07:14 PM) Russell Martin hit a grandslam today. So did Robinson Cano. And Curtis Granderson. First time that's ever happened. I was very surprised to hear that it was the first time it had ever happened.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) It has also paid off in a World Championship and another division title. You'd be hard pressed to not call the Kenny Williams era the most successful in the history of this franchise. I don't know what the GM's of the 1900's & 1910s did or didn't do, but this is definitely a true statement. The problem is that you are talking about a franchise, who in its first 100 years, had 2 WS titles, 5 AL titles, & 7 total playoff appearances. That is not a very successful franchise, especially considering how few teams there once were. Sometimes when I enjoy the 2005 banners at the stadium, I get amazed by how little success they had before that.
  3. The Tigers may have won the Central, but at least we don't have to live in Detroit.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) Its going to be a question that wouldnt have been asked until he kicked a guy's face in. More importantly who the hell NEEDS almost 50 pairs of shoes? I'm sure somebody in the LSU front office knows where he got the money to buy those shoes
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 03:37 PM) To back up his talk. I'm not saying he will, but if I was in his shoes, I would put up at least a season at the min salary to make up for my injured ass. But thats just me. Come on man, no you wouldn't. You can say that now, but in his shoes you absolutely wouldn't turn down say $5 million for $500k, while your career only has a few years left, just because you feel bad.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) So they raided J Jefferson's apt and took 49 pairs of shoes into evidence? How the f*** can a college kid afford 5k worth of shoes? Does that question really need to be answered???
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) True, but he has a chance to make it right and work for 5th starter pay. Why would he do that if some dumbass GM wants to pay him for the Cy Young he won years ago?
  8. Can we now change the thread title that the Sox did not claim Thome??? Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal Sources: #Indians awarded claim on Thome, #WhiteSox awarded claim on Kubel. Thome has no-trade clause; preference is #Phillies.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) So why is the logical conclusion that the Indians prospects will reach or exceed their full potential? Or even will do so at a rate greater than the rate of the White Sox? You are right, their prospects may fail too. Although, I think Choo & Cabrera are proven already. Santana's sophomore slump is still a good season for a catcher. Masterson has been great, but it's still his first full season of it. Ubaldo & the question mark he is now has been discussed. Beckham did the same thing Kipnis did when he got called up, so that's no sure thing. I know nothing about Chisenhall either.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) Well, it's true. Ha. Recently for the Sox that definitely has been true. I would say the Indians/Sox lists could be comparable if I had reason to believe the Sox players could reach or exceed their full potential. Recent history bodes me to believe otherwise.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) Its still comparable. You know how it is Rock. Everyone else's prospects are way better than your own of course.
  12. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 01:03 AM) I'm surprised Peavy wasn't on the waiver wire. I bet you he was, as was Dunn. Tons of players get put on waivers, you just don't hear about them cause nobody claims guys like that.
  13. Amazed that this thread is still going...
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 12:00 AM) I know one thing. JR will never live down letting Hahn go if he won a World Series for the Cubs. How? The only people that would care about that are meatballs who have no idea who the f*** Rick Hahn is anyway.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 07:46 AM) I'm sure they are pissed, but really what can you do about it, that you don't come off looking even worse than you did before? and when the all-powerful Scott Boras is his agent, what can you really say?
  16. Mike had no chance in that final challenge, especially since he just got brought in as a replacement. Nice of TJ though, "Normally I'd clown you for quitting, but this was the toughest challenge I've seen" Still got the humor after the accident. Just glad to see Wes look like a b**** again and not win it all. The challenge itself was pretty solid, but the second day was too set up for drama at the end. You could have dominated day one but only be given a two minute headstart the next day, which is not much.
  17. The British may be an ugly bunch of people, but they sure know how to produce some hot big boobed ladies.
  18. If we are going youth movement, I hear Colby Rasmus may be available.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 06:28 PM) Phil Rogers is the absolute worst. It's like him & Sam Smith just sit around and see who can make the ridculous made-up trade proposal.
  20. I don't care what Weaver says about the money, he still has acted like a huge douchebag on the field, so I'm not a fan of him.
  21. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) No lineup yet? Here you are sir: Pierre - LF De Aza - RF Konerko - DH Rios - CF Ramirez - SS Dunn - 1B Flowers - C Morel - 3B Beckham - 2B Stewart - P
  22. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) I'd love to see what would happen if someone claimed Konerko. He makes a ton of sense for the DBacks, if he even gets that far. It could completely reshape this Sox team, but it will probably never happen. Just ask for Dan Hudson, Chris Young, & Brandon Allen back and call it a day. (I realize Allen is in OAK, let the DBacks figure it out)
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) Samuel Eto'o is now the highest paid athlete in sports. Almost 30 million (US$) per year to sign with some middling Russian club. Shame his talents are going to be wasted for the next three years I've been reading about that Russian club, it's pretty crazy. They are being supported by another one of the Russian oil billionaires. They gave 37-year old Roberto Carlos a bunch of money and have a few other players that are pretty good, that they overpaid. They should have a chance to compete in the Russian league. But they are located near Checyna where the Islamic insurgency is and there is a bit of a war going on. They are based in and practice in Moscow, and have to travel 1,250 miles back for each of their home games. It just sounds like a very interesting situation.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) All I know is that god damn 50 cent KFC hot wings deal ad is making me hungrier than the time I got so drunk that I walked through the Taco Bell drive thru because I had no car. They never let me walk through the drive thru anywhere. I either have to find a cab to drive thru it or drunkenly convince a stranger to let me ride in their car. I used to pull that 2nd move at the Taco Bell by Wrigley all the time cause the inside was mayhem.
