  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 12:22 PM) That would seriously be s***ty of him. I concur, and maybe he wouldn't. He just seems like the type of player to take that kind of thing very seriously.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) They have the 4th best record in the AL. Even if they have a s***ty division, they're pretty damn good. And their winning percentage vs. that s***ty division is .625. They are .500 vs. the rest of baseball.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) Again, at this point in the season, it's hard to argue that someone is playing a bit over his head. If the players hasn't collapsed by now, it's very likely they're just going to have a "fluke" season. So this power binge from Lillibridge is definitely for real and he's not playing over his head? A guy can have a full "fluke" season and come back the next year and struggle. Look through Peralta's career numbers. He's had one season similar to this, one a bit worse, and 4 more that aren't even close to this.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 12:22 PM) I don't think anyone called them a monster or predicts them to win the World Series. However, they have a big enough lead in the AL Central right now that it can be considered that they are running away with it. Well fathom did call them "damn good", so that's what we have been questioning. Nothing to do with the White Sox chances.
  5. I think Peyton is pretty proud of his consecutive games started streak. I wonder if he would take a snap or two, hand it off, then leave the game just to keep the streak going. He seems like the type of guy who would.
  6. Knowing the 2011 White Sox, they will probably figure out some way to win this game, make back it .500 this weekend, then fall flat on their face vs. the Twins next week
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) Peralta's numbers are easily better than Cabrera's this year. I did underestimate Peralta's numbers, although I was referring to Alexei. Peralta is one of the top hitting SS this year, but he is playing a bit over his head, so I have a hard time labeling him best SS in baseball.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) I can't believe how many people scoffed at the Doug Fister acquisition. There there's a damn-fine pitcher. LOL, let's talk when he's not in a huge pitchers park.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) Tigers are damn good. The best starting pitcher in baseball, the best closer in baseball, one of the best 1B in the majors, one of the best SS in the majors, one of the best catchers in the majors...and then you have a lot of other solid bads. I know Benoit started off poorly, but he's been much better lately as well. Wow. Are we talking about the same team? Best closer? Ha. There is a better SS in their own division. Once you get past the best pitcher, the next 4 starters are questionable heading into a playoff series. Let's not let this little hot streak fool us now. The NL West is the only other division they would be leading, and that's by a half game.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 10:31 AM) Forgot about not acquiring Rasmus because of the Mark Teahen albatross. Do we know that's 100% true? Was there a deal on the table for Rasmus that KW turned down? Or are we just assuming a deal could have been worked out?
  11. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 09:46 AM) Why do Cleveland fans hate Thome? Because he used free agency and signed with Phillies?? Because they are miserable people from Cleveland
  12. To be fair, Olney only said that execs THINK the Sox will claim him, not that they definitely have.
  13. Buster_ESPN Buster Olney There is a high expectation among execs that CWS will be team awarded claim to Jim Thome. What's unknown: Whether a deal can be worked out
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 12:03 AM) I forgot they were selling playoff tickets a few weeks ago holding the season ticket holders hostage as if this team could make the playoffs. Welcome to the world of professional sports. Every team does this, yet you keep acting so surprised & outraged. If the Bears are 5-7 with 4 weeks left, while 9-7 can get them in, I can guarantee a playoff invoice will go out.
  15. Has Mark ever shown any interest in going to Boston or New York?
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 04:20 AM) Oh, Clayton Kershaw is the front-runner for the NL CY, IMO. I would agree. It's impressive that he is tied for the NL lead in wins with that offense. The Dodgers may have the Cy Young winner & a top 3 MVP finisher, yet are 10 games under .500.
  17. ***patiently awaiting post praising AA for another genius move, further establishing his position as best GM ever***
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) I know I have no power, but I just like discussion of minor signings/moves we could make to maybe help our punchless offense. Signing Cuddyer wouldn't be "minor", he is probably gonna make almost $10 million a year.
  19. Someone claimed Wandy Rodriguez... With his contract & the Astros need to save money, I wonder if they would just hand him over for free, Alex Rios style
  20. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 01:03 PM) Travis Hafner to DL, could miss rest of season. What was that about steroids leading to more injury in the future??
