  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) Not many. The Phillies are just the perfect team for him, as they need the guy off of the bench and he's played there before. I don't think Boston has a spot for him, and I'm not sure about the Yankees. Atlanta and/or Milwaukee could probably use him and both are near playoff locks. If they had the chance, I think they would have to claim him, since Philly is their top competition in the NL. But yeah, I would agree that a team like Anaheim or STL claiming him would suck, considering their playoff odds are slim but none, and he deserves a last chance at a ring.
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) If people around baseball have as much respect for the man as they seem to, they'll let him get to the Phillies. That man, more than any other player in the game, deserves to be given that chance. You really don't think any other team has a chance to beat the Phillies?
  3. the 2008 Lions went 4-0 in the preseason, then 0-16 in the regular season
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) usatmlb usatmlb by BNightengale Can Justin Verlander lift #Tigers to AL pennant? Consider this: The last 16 Division Series winners won Game 1. Hmm 11 of those 16 series have been sweeps
  5. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) I find it odd how coaches really think those games mean anything. The blocked punt was a 4th and 1 from the 49 with 40 seconds left. Why not go for it? Also what is the purpose of kicking 20 yard field goals? That was another time I thought they should have gone for it. If Knox played like Williams last night, he would be out the door. Williams excuses are not even viable. Your special teams do need practice in game situations as well. And you don't wanna show off all of your special 4th down plays in the preseason.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 09:16 AM) The rumor that Roy Williams is going to reinvent himself back under Mike Martz is a joke. This guy can't catch for s*** and always has a million excuses. Just after watching a few plays, it's obvious how much a receiver as tall as Roy can help Cutler. The problem is he has to be able to catch the f***ing ball too, and so far Williams is not capable of that.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 09:13 AM) That's very interesting. They think an AL team with a .500 or worse record is going to claim him? The only options are BAL, KC, OAK, SEA, & the Sox. If he hadn't #600 then I could see it, although the Twins wouldn't let him go until he hit 600. Which of those teams would take him? I know he's owed very little, but still, doesn't make sense.
  8. Damn, Brandon Jacobs just made Major Wright look like a Major fool.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 05:14 AM) It's amazing that the Rockies got 4 prospects, including 2 very good prospects, for Jimenez when his career has really been defined by that 14 game stretch to start last season. In his first 14 starts, he went 13-1 with an ERA of 1.15, and he threw 101.1 innings over that span. That's the equivalent of 7.1 IP a start. The only game he lost, he gave up 2 runs - 1 of them unearned - and the Rockies were shutout by the Dodgers. In his next 19 starts, he went 6-7 with an ERA of 4.34 over 120 IP. He was averaging a full inning less per start over that stretch. Throughout the entirety of his career, he's been a pitcher with exceptional talent and, aside from that 14 game stretch, the output of a guy you'd prefer to be your 2nd best starting pitcher. I think this could very well be Exhibit A as to why you don't go for it all unless you are either certain of a playoff spot or are very close to getting there. Pomeranz and White could very well be Exhibits B and C as to why you don't as well. Yeah, but Ubaldo is signed for at least two more years to a very team-friendly contract. So it's not like they went "all in" for a guy who will become a FA this year. That being said, I can't argue with any of the other evidence that maybe that 14 game stretch overrated him.
  10. 50k miles a year? That is a lot of driving!
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) And yet, they're on the verge of fielding a competitive team again. They managed to sweep their division last year and yet still not make the playoffs. 1st team to ever do that.
  12. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) I figured the Phillies would view him as this year's Matt Stairs for them. I hope he gets there, somehow. Considering they are the best team in the NL, I think their chances are nil. He'd have to pass through all other teams, including CLE, TEX, NYY, SF, ARI, MIL, ATL, I could see any of these teams claiming him. Hafner is injured again, so Cleveland could be an interesting possibility, they would have one of the first chances to claim him. If they got him, I hope it would shut up all those bozos who still boo the guy.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 01:16 PM) I found her annoying as a character and the actress is incredibly overrated looks wise. Every line is delivered in the same tone. I concur. She is a pretty girl, but I never understood why everyone anointed her one of the hottest girls in the world, never saw it. And I always found the Sloan/E plots a bit annoying.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) Terrelle Pryor to the Raiders. 3rd round supplemental. Of course the Raiders took him
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) He either gets a deal done or he trades him at peak value. All while he saves an infant from a burning house, while fixing the US's debt ceiling problem all in one day.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 11:58 AM) Danks was obviously not that enamored with Boras. Oops, I forgot that he switched agents. I think the Sox did offer him a deal similar to Romero's, if not more, and he turned it down.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) The best GM in baseball (my avy) would've gotten something done with Danks by now. Just like he took care of Romero, who is f***ing sick, and is now one of the top 10 bargains in the sport. What makes you think Boras would have let Danks sign a similar contract that Romero did? Other than succumbing to AA's hypnotic powers and charming looks?
  18. Limitless was entertaining, I liked the way it ended. Although DeNiro is just not the same actor anymore, it's been that way for a while.
  19. Thankfully there are only 3 more episodes of Entourage left. I've made it this far, so I might as well keep watching, even if it's a boring, uneventful show.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 08:45 AM) This has to limit Danks to 5 and $70/75, doesn't it? No way. Weaver chose to avoid free agency, you can't compare the two. In fact, Danks could probably get more money now, as that's one less arm he has to compete with.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 09:02 AM) If KW wanted Reed on the roster he can make it happen, but he cannot force Ozzie to play him. We saw exactly that story happen last year with Viciedo. Kenny put him on the roster, Ozzie benched him for a month. That I understand. But you are only filling the last bullpen spot right now, it's not like you are gonna throw Reed into the 8th inning role immediately, you have plenty of set up guys who have performed well. (well, at least not until the team officially gives up on 2011) My point was that Kinney over Reed had nothing to do with "Ozzie loving his veterans". If KW wanted Reed on the roster he would be, but it didn't make sense right now for the long reliever spot.
