  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) Kenny doesn't have that authority. That's the deal when only the owner can fire the manager, not the GM. So KW has no authority to decide who is on the roster? Does Ozzie have to sign off on all roster decisions and call-ups? If KW wanted Reed, but Ozzie said no, then that's it, end of story?
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 08:26 AM) Because KW talks to Ozzie and Cooper anytime they bring a pitcher up to the Sox. And he's surely never even heard of Reed (knowing Ozzie) and won't until he's on his 25 man roster and forced to used him. Then if Reed is the best option w/ all things considered, KW needs to call him up and force Ozzie to use him. He still is the general manager.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 08:13 AM) Ozzie loves his veterans. Enough said. Because Ozzie is the GM, right?
  4. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 12:34 AM) Just got back home from Chicago. I was at the game today and couldn't have picked a better one to attend. Really fun watching the offensive explosion... But, on such a beautiful day, I was disappointed at the attendance. I know we've been incredibly disappointing/frustrating this year, so I get the fact that people may pass on going during weekdays. But on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon? Kinda sad... It was a perfect storm of factors working against the Sox. Air/Water show, Cubs/Cardinals on the north side, add that to an underachieving expensive team, and the attendance didn't surprise me.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) No beer is allowed to be sold at any collegiate sports event. This rule was implemented a few years ago. That is false. They sold beer at Wrigley for UI/NW football last year, they always sell beer at the Illinois basketball games at the United Center. They sell beer at the Rose Bowl.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) Yeah, they're probably kinda hungry. "Mom, you made 12 tacos. Can we have one?" NOOOOOO! Mom must eat & eat!!!! Reminds me of a Family Guy episode where they spoofed John Goodman stuffing himself at home and not giving his family any food
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) Sandberg would be about as popular to Sox fans as Steve Alford would be were he to come back to the University of Indiana as head coach after his previous failure at Iowa...some would love the idea, but the majority would be against it. Meh. Other than maybe a few meathead fans, I don't think anyone would have a problem with Sandberg. It's not like he ever played vs. the Sox back then or caused any cross town riffs. He's a hall of fame hitter, I'm sure fans would give him a chance to succeed.
  8. Last time the Sox faced Ogando, they managed 5 hits & were shutout. I wonder if they will top that this time around?
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 11:14 AM) I would think the Bears would play at Northwestern in case of emergency. Maybe if it was a sudden next-day emergency. But I still think they would try to go back to Champaign first, there is a big difference between 47k seats & 61k.
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) I thought the rule allows the 25 man roster as of August 31st + Humber to be playoff eligible. Is that not the case? The 25-man roster plus any player on the major league DL is eligible. A DLed player's elgibility can also be taken by anyone on the 40 man roster. Basically, if Castro is on the DL on Aug. 31 and doesn't come back, Viciedo can take his playoff roster spot, even if he's not the 25 man at the end of August.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) The Soriano contract has some similarities to the Marian Hossa contract with the Blackhawks (although I think Hossa at his peak is a better player). A deal with winning a championship early on specifically in mind. Regardless of how bad the Hossa contract ends up, the Hawks won a championship very early in it with him playing a big role, so the contract will always seem tolerable. With Soriano, the Cubs did win division titles his first 2 years, but the playoff failures make his contract just look like a total disaster. Especially now that he's not producing and old with the team being bad. Great point. That 3 for 28 showing in their six playoff games will probably overshadow anything Fons did during the regular season.
  12. QUOTE (forrestg @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) on a positive note he seems to be hitting the ball to the opposite field and beating the shift. Or he is just swinging late and the ball is headed there serendipitously. LOL. Either he is playing smart just to contribute or he has become so bad that he is accidentally outsmarting the other team.
  13. One more thing to add on to Balta's points. Yes the Soriano contract is awful right now. But he was the biggest FA out there, and Hendry had the mandate & the OK to sign him, so he did. Soriano was an important player for them in 07 & 08. As they battled for a division crown in 2007, he hit 14 homers alone in the month of September.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) I wonder if they are playing with the numbers since "divisons" didn't come along until the 1960's. LOL, I guess so. Then you can say that about nearly every team. In 100 seasons, the White Sox won 3 division titles. In just 10 seasons under KW, they have already won two of them. 1906, 1917, 1919, 1959 just don't count.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) ESPNStatsInfo ESPN Stats & Info #Cubs before Jim Hendry as GM: 126 years & 2 division titles. WITH Hendry as GM: 10 years & 3 division titles. That can't be right. They made the World Series ten times between 1906 & 1945.
  16. The team is better with Stewart in the rotation than 2nd half Humber anyway. Not that it matters.
  17. Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal Sources: Gillick not an option for #Cubs. Bad news for the Cubs
  18. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 11:59 AM) 2007 called, it was wondering what took so long. The won the division in 2007 & led the NL in wins in 2008?
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) The Ricketts made their plan VERY clear when they went incredibly overslot in this year's draft for double digit round guys to keep them out of college etc. They are building through the draft whether their fans like it or not. They would rather spend 27 million on amateur players than 27 million in Free Agency. It should be interesting to see how attendance shapes up with that plan in motion. This year is showing that they need a winner to fill the stadium. They will still get decent crowds and some sellouts due to Wrigley, but it won't be packed every night.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 10:53 AM) ChuckGarfien Chuck Garfien Hendry said Tom Ricketts told him he wasn't being brought back on July 22nd! Right before the trade deadline? That's interesting.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) David Haugh Ricketts expected to announce Hendry is removed as GM, Crane Kenney staying as team president. He needs to go too
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) Jim Hendry is out as GM. Interesting. I figured Ricketts would wait til the end of the season. If you are gonna fire him now, you should have done it back in June when a new GM could have made some trades and still tinkered with the roster.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 09:05 AM) Dunn had two hits in Thursdays game. What I want to see is some RBI's Twice he came up with the bases empty, twice with Konerko on first. So basically, you are asking for a home run and nothing else, cause that's the only way he can get an RBI in those situations.
  24. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 09:12 AM) Vin Scully is great at what he does, but I about fall asleep watching Dodger's games cause his broadcasts are so boring. Are you sure that's not just the Dodgers offense?? There's really no one to watch other than Matt Kemp.
