  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) My view is it can't just be Guillen who goes. Hollywood is most responsible for this mess. I concur. Well said my friend.
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 05:28 PM) All of these ifs and buts. It doesn't change what happened or where we find ourselves right now. We're looking at a restructuring that could have been started years ago at the price of one measly playoff victory. That division title & playoff victory were worth it for me. I'd rather be at this point than have had no successes, considering the odds of immediate success from restructuring.
  3. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) Greg and Marty (with the possibility of SS2k5?) are the only people left on the site that don't believe Ozzie needs to go. I still go back & forth on it. He has had a bad year managing, but I still like him and think he can be a good manager. And it's not like KW has handed him a full deck to work with.
  4. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) It simply means that nobody wanted to give equivelant value for Quentin or Thornton before the trade deadline. Exactly. Because of Twitter, everyone thinks that Domonic Brown and Brandon Beachy should be White Sox now, but no one knows exactly what KW was offered for those two and what they actually could have received.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) Because the positives of cleaning house far outweigh the "real" possibilities of making the playoffs. I know, people will come out with the 2006 Cardinals argument. But we all know that that isn't going to happen. And others will say that cleaning house won't ensure any future success. And again, we all know that we will have no future success with this current management team. If they make the playoffs this year, wouldn't that be considered future success with this management team??? To get this team into the playoffs, Ozzie would have do something right over the next two months & KW's busts would have to start playing like they were supposed to.
  6. No game thread yet? Come on guys, it's only a 5.5 game deficit with 54 left to play. That's childs play! We have Dunn & Rios in the lineup!!!! Pierre lf, Vizquel 2b, Quentin dh, Dunn 1b, Ramirez ss, AJ c, Rios cf, De Aza rf, Morel 3b, Floyd p
  7. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) There is certainly a much better chance of cleaning house if they don't make the playoffs. And I want that. I still don't get how people can root against making the playoffs. Your hatred of a coach/gm overwhelms your wishes for team success??? Do you root for a team or just for the coaching staff?
  8. Dear Mr. Reinsdorf, Please end the NBA lockout.
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 03:00 PM) Didn't Andruw Jones do something like this for the Dodgers? Like he decided to forfeit the final years of the contract or something since he was doing soo bad? IIRC he chose to defer the money to future years. Instead of paying him like $20 million in one season, they were allowed to pay him most of it in future years, making him much more tradeable to other teams. They are probably defaulting on those payments now with their bankruptcy issues. Either way, I think he still was set to receive the entire contract.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) Bats in the Cardinals/Brewers game are already exciting. 2 HR for the Brewers off of Jackson, 3 run HR for Furcal. They had an exciting back and forth game last night as well. The Pirates 5-game losing streak has probably made it a two-team race.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) nerds Says the guy with a blog about comic book movies...
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) What would be even more interesting would be to see how Oney reacted to criticism of his "groupies" or girlfriend/s. Do you really think Oney has groupies???? Well, I guess, if he has some of Daddy's money, I'm sure some women would follow that around unfortunately.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) 1.) All those managers you listed have their detractors too. It goes with the territory. 2.) Oney is a moron but that has nothing to do with Ozzie. Even Lauren said in her post that Mark liked playing for Ozzie. 3.) How can KW get a pass. My gosh: Adam Dunn, Rios and Peavy, Gio, Hudson, Richard, et. all. If you don't like Ozzie for what he's done lately, Kenny is on a death spiral with the roster. FYI, mentioning Richard supports Kenny. His numbers outside of his giant home ballpark in SD are awful. Kenny gave up nothing in value to obtain Peavy, just obtained his awful contract & injured body.
  14. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 11:38 AM) Looks like Sharp is sticking around on a new 5 year deal. No link yet. $5.9 million annual cap hit. Sounds a tiny bit high, but if he keeps up what he has been doing, will be worth it.
  15. QUOTE (SI1020 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 11:35 AM) I would like to think that but I can't remember one hitter that fell off as dramatically has Dunn has except for Jermaine Dye in the second half of 09. Funny how they played on the same team. Is there something in the clubhouse water? Seriously though when I see Dunn and I'd hate to call what he's doing struggling I remember Steve Blass the Pirates star pitcher who suddenly couldn't throw a strike to save his life. I know some will see this as a poor comparison but Dunn is in far more than just a slump. He looks like he has totally lost it. Again, I do hope you're right about the Big Donkey. Good comparison with Dye. He was absolutely dreadful in that 2nd half, just as bad as Dunn was. He never get a chance to prove if that was a fluke or if he was done. Dunn will have 3 more years to prove himself, fingers are crossed.
  16. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 11:38 AM) Looks like Sharp is sticking around on a new 5 year deal. No link yet.
  17. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) I approve both of these ideas. I hate how Brad Biggs keeps saying the Bears won't go after Osi b/c they wouldn't lock up that much money at one position. Who give a s*** where we spend our money? If we're going to spend jack squat on the OL, then we might as well spend it elsewhere. And with Peppers/Osi coming off both edges, game over. Our D-Line would wreck so much havoc. Peppers was awesome last year, without a good partner in crime. Imagine how much more dominant he could be if teams had to worry about Osi as well.
  18. Would you do that at your present job? Sorry boss, I haven't been performing as well as I should have, why don't you give me a 30% pay cut, I deserve it.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 08:59 AM) I wish she would have posted as Espy instead. I know. I wonder if him & RBI will enjoy Canada.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) Looks like Hudson is about to pitch his Diamondbacks into a first place tie by going into San Francisco and beating Tim Lincecum. 8 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 bb, 5 k Got a hit and a walk too. Batting .326 this season. Sorry, but we only count games vs. ML offenses that aren't in giant parks. (Beltran not withstanding)
