  1. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:56 PM) Gilligan's Island and Brady Bunch creator Sherwood Schwartz. Sherwood also wrote or co-wrote the theme songs to both series. Clearly his Schwartz was bigger than those of mere mortals. I was so surprised to hear that Gilligan's only ran for 3 seasons & the Brady Bunch for 5. They were constantly on syndication, so I figured they had made more seasons than that.
  2. I caught the last 3 innings, a few observations that no one will care about: -In that 8th inning, you could see the wheels already coming off on Politte/Cotts. How the hell did the Sox get sub-2.00 ERA seasons out of those two jokers? -Juan. Uribe. I forgot about that great play to end the 8th as well. -I think he had the Tommy John, but Brandon Backe really fell off the radar quickly. I thought he'd be a solid starter for a while, had some great playoff performances.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 03:51 AM) Kenny and Wes=scurred of CT If Wes is such a prime physical specimen, why is he so worried about CT being in the final. And if Evan & Nehemiah had any balls, they would have tried to get Adam/CT in the Jungle to face Kenny/Wes as part of the "D-Day Plan", since they DQed. But Evan is Kenny's little b****, so that didn't happen. Kinda felt like MTV purposely chose a Jungle where one player could take over & win it alone like Wes did, but whatever.
  4. scott_pianowskiscott pianowski K-Rod's rep and mouthy agent win out: Brewers will split saves between Rodriguez and Axford. No doubt club will be careful to avoid vesting.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) For all the talk that happens about them being cheap...they're also incredibly smart about where they spend their money. Even guys who are on "Bad" contracts for the Bears are still productive guys. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) They were pretty smart to go into this CBA ending with a low number knowing that the cap was coming down. All these posts with the Bears and the word "smart". Very confusing and unfamiliar.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) Should the Braves have fired Bobby Cox after so many playoff flameouts? How about Scocia (I probably spelled that wrong)? I think there's something to be said about consistently getting to October every year. In the NBA, making the playoffs is nowhere near as significant unless you're a top 4 seed. In the NFL, you see 9-7 teams make the playoffs all the time. In baseball, if you can survive a 162 game marathon, 9.5 times out of 10, you were deserving. To do that year after year, yeah, I'd say you're doing something right. You make a good point about the nature of the MLB playoffs and I agree that 90% of the battle is making the playoffs. That being said, there is one major difference with Gardenhire. Cox & Scioscia have won WS, Gardy hasn't even made it there. Gardy has won one series out of 7. In their last 5 LDS flameouts, the Twins have gone 2-15(.118) . Cox ended his career with 5 straight LDS losses, but they still went 8-15 (.348) in those games. I know only the series result matters, but the Twins haven't even been competing. Gardy's career playoff record is 6-21 (.222) Cox is 67-69 (.493). Scioscia is 21-24 (.467) At some point, you have to start winning some games in the playoffs, and I do realize the playoffs can be a crapshoot, but still.
  7. The Indians have actually played BOS/NYY 13 times (7-6), while the Rays have only played them 10 times (5-5).
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) Hence the if you choose to ignore the quality of the divisions. We'd be in full sell mode right now if we were in the AL east. Then give Friedman the GM of the year as well. Yes, the Rays have a ton of young talent in their minors. But for '11, this was supposed to be a 'down' year. And a top 5 player in the league, Longoria, has missed almost half the season. They were only 2 or 3 games out a couple weeks ago before a slow finish to the first half. Could you imagine if they could afford to take on payroll? Maddon is an excellent manager that I pay close attention to. But like I said, this is for right now. If the Rays fall off the continent in the second half then he's probably not as deserving. I just really admire the job he's done to this point. Maddon is definitely a great manager and I'm not trying to discount that. I just don't think he's a guaranteed shoo-in for this season's MOY. He still has Price, Shields, Hellickson leading off the rotation and there is talent in the lineup other than Longoria. People still had them finishing 3rd, and a few thought they had a chance to sneak in the WC. Cleveland is only 1.5 games worse and no one had them finishing anywhere near .500. And the divisions haven't affected their records much cause TB is 16-14 vs. the East, 15-12 vs. the Central, while CLE is 15-14 vs. East, 13-12 vs. Central, which is pretty similar.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) As of right now, the AL manager of the year is Joe Maddon. And it's not even up for discussion. They lost Crawford, Pena, their entire bullpen, Longoria missed like 35 games...and they're right in the thick of things in that monster of a division. Does Maddon deserve credit for their new re-made bullpen or does the GM? And it's not like they are lacking for talent and Maddon is doing it with bums. Everyone hypes up their young talent, aren't they just producing at the level everyone predicted?
  10. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:25 PM) sounds like Beltran could be on the move to DET Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Tigers are probably biggest wildcard in the Carlos Beltran sweepstakes. It'll come down who will absorb most $; DET has done that in past.
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) People apparently just have a problem with me using the term "dynasty". Fine, I didn't realize people would be so annoyed by semantics. The point is that the Twins have had a run of dominance in the AL Central. I apologize for using such an inflammatory word, but the run of dominance can't really be argued. Wait, I'm sure it can and shortly will be... The Twins may have had the run of dominance & the dynasty, but I guarantee Twins fans would trade their last nine seasons for the Sox' seasons without a second thought.
  12. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) Let's face it. Peavy is going to be one of those elderly people who breaks their hip in the shower. And then KW will try to re-acquire him weeks after the fall in the shower
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 08:48 PM) I almost cried during last week's episode of Friday Night Lights. Sucks there is only one left for the series. What a great show. Finally get to watch that episode tonight, since the power just came on this morn and I was gone all weekend. I am excited for Friday's finale, but kinda bummed it's gonna be over. Should be a solid night of TV watching with FNL & a new Challenge episode.
  14. California might be in the worst shape right now out of all 50 states
  15. The Brewers are "All In" as well, but they are actually successful so far. This will be a great move as long K-Rod doesn't pout too much. Brewers should put a little fear into the rest of the NL with that lineup and YoGa, Greinke, Marcum in the rotation.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Are you sure it was a horse and not a catbird? It was a horse, but it was in the catbird seat
  17. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) What if we got Hawk in on this conversation? What would his views be? About the gay issues or about the guy's aunt & the horse?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) Or at least win a single playoff game? Heck we keep hearing that it doesn't matter if the Sox get to the playoffs and get smacked down right away, yet the Twins are a dynasty for doing exactly that? Uh, ok. Exactly.....
  19. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:48 PM) You're blanketing an entire community into a specific South Park character which is already ridiculous. Most gays don't act that way, in fact many are just as "normal" as you and I in every day situations. No, he said that some gays are like that, flamboyant, and those are the ones he wouldn't want to live with. Some do act that way, I've hung out with them.
  20. I don't see what's wrong with saying that one thinks homosexual sex is disgusting. If someone thinks that hooking up with another man is gross, that's their personal preference. s***, there's tons of nasty heterosexual sex going on out there that I wouldn't want to be anywhere near either. But if that's what a guy wants to do, then go for it man, that's all your business. But I'm not gonna look down on a person because of what they choose to do between the sheets or who they do it with. If you do that, then that's where the problem comes in.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:59 AM) I fear a Quentin for J. Sanchez trade We already traded for a guy with great stuff and control issues last summer. No thanks.

That's a large cat if it can carry picnic stuff!
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) I think I have figured out that watching Adam Dunn hit lefties is what it must feel like to be a Cub fan. You know what is going to happen, and yet you still watch and hold out this little bit of hope that this will be the time! Ugh. LOL, it's the definition of insanity
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) The departed firefighter is happy to know that you've judged him to be a dumbass. I didn't know him personally, but his action that led to his death was a dumbass move. I'm sure he'd agree.
