  1. Still disappointed that Passan's campaign to get Wily Mo in the derby never materialized. That would have been fun to watch.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) I think swapping Dayan for Pierre might help; I'd rather have it be Dayan for Morel though, but we can't do that now. Also dump Rios and bring up DeAza and platoon with Lilly in center I think would help the team a lot. I really do. I'm sick of Rios too, but just wondering how do you expect that to happen? No other team is dumb enough to claim him off waivers and do you really expect Reinsdorf to agree to spend $37 million over 2012-2014 for a player not on the roster? If you have to bench him then do it, but either way I don't see how he's not on the roster for the future time being.

Way to sell out guys. I remember the good old days when it was only about the baseball. ****sigh*****
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) Have you ever had to make a split second decision between leaning 3 inches more and missing a foul ball?
  5. Power is out AGAIN. Left work to take some food to my parents house this time, had to throw away a bunch of stuff last time. ComEd is saying that nearly 700k customers lost power
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) I'm going with having common sense. I have to agree with this. Are there other fans who would have done the same thing? Of course. Does that suddenly make it a smart decision? No. Would a majority of fans have been a bit more careful and chose safety over a baseball? I have to think so.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 09:46 AM) A quality building inspector and a quality architectural design team will do everything possible to consider these one in a million safety events. It doesn't happen daily at the ballparks because you can design things better than that fence, and your inspectors make sure that ballparks do so. If you have 100 fences that are designed poorly, you'll only run into the right set of circumstances once in a blue moon, but when the response is to scream "Personal responsibility!" as some sort of mantra lecturing the guy who did what a normal father would do, then we're really just accepting these events because it's the fan's fault. A normal father would do? I'm sure many fathers would have reached out with one hand while keeping one hand on the railing. Other fathers would have slightly reached over but did it carefully to not lose their balance. Then they would have said "Sorry son, I couldn't get that one. We will get another chance to catch one." There definitely could have been issues with the railing's height. However, that doesn't mean you can say any fan would have fallen to his death or that he shouldn't have been way more careful.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 09:05 AM) Of course, it's America, let's let the big money entity which has a stadium with a flawed design entirely off the hook. I'll give you a pass on the fear of heights thing, but I'd guarantee you I'd have done just about the same thing, and I'd bet a huge majority of baseball fans would have done the same. The ball was a little short, your brain is processing "If I don't reach for it, I miss the ball" during that split second. It's not processing the risk that fast, and it's not even realizing that its at risk until its too late. I will agree that yes, the railings could probably be higher and safer, and that's probably the case in most MLB ballparks. The fan doesn't deserve all the blame. Improving the fan's experience often takes precedence over safety in designing these parks. That being said, even if a majority of fans would have done the same thing, it still doesn't mean it wasn't reckless. You still have to be careful when hanging over a railing like that, it's not like that happens daily at all the various baseball stadiums all over the country.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) Leaning against a railing within the legally permitted zone of a major league ballpark is not acting recklessly. If the Rangers didn't want people able to put the upper half of their body over that railing, then they needed a higher railing. Everyone here would have done the same thing. Are you serious? That's absolutely false. I can guarantee you I wouldn't have (partly because I am scared of heights). There's ways to reach for a baseball without putting your whole upper body over the railing and losing control and falling. But of course, it's America, let's not hold someone personally responsible.
  10. I was out at a bar in the middle of Wisconsin Saturday night , who do I see there celebrating his own bachelor party? Tall, lanky Brian Butch
  11. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 12:42 AM) Personal accountability doesn't exist in America. That's the truth. This wasn't even a situation where there was nothing the fan could do to avoid the injury/death, like getting hit by a line drive or something. The guy made a personal decision to act recklessly just for a baseball, and it cost him his life.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) Speaking of Dunn, he got an award today from Jayson Stark: Via I've been seeing him win that award from sportwriters all week. I thought that one was actually well written by Stark.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 02:02 PM) Kudos to the Angels. They now have arguably the two fastest guys in baseball. and aren't they both white?
  14. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) How cool would it be to have Hunter Pence? I would make a ginormous mess in my pants
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:11 PM) Hopefully Craig Biggio is coming to save the day. That would be a quintessential KW mid-season trade.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) A 160 point dip in OPS was significant. As was his drop off in singles, doubles, HRs, and RBIs. EDIT: So basically his respectable OPS in the 2nd half was mostly propped up by a nice number of walks. I for one don't want to rely on a ton of walks from our multimillion dollar signing. He needs to hit HRs and knock in runs. He did hit 16 HRs & 44 RBIs in 70 games, which is on pace for a 37 HR, 101 RBI season, which is in line with his career averages. His batting average & doubles were lacking a bit. I agree that he needs to hit HRs & knock in runs, which he isn't doing. I'm just not gonna write off the next 3.5 years as the worst FA signing ever until it actually happens. If this s*** keeps up, then yes it probably will be the worst signing ever for the Sox.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) An awful 2nd half of 2010 coupled with an even worse 1st half of 2011 points to a trend. Here's Konerko's OPS from 2007-2009 2007: .841 (age 31) 2008: .783 (32) 2009: .842 (33) That pointed to a trend as well for a hitter at a similar age. Dunn's awful OPS after the AS Break last year was .803
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 11:44 AM) I'd say he's the worst Sox free agent signing of all time given the contract, results, and expectations. LOL, the contract is barely 15% through, let's see what happens for the next 3.5 years first.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan72 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) Maybe while the Twins are in town Dunn and Rios can study Mauer's at bats to see how it's done, as they obviosly don't have a clue. Oh that's right, I heard Dunn doesn't put in any extra work. How pathetic. What? Let's just make stuff up while we are at.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) We might win 55 games. 40 of those after the AS Break, once the Twins open up a 40-50 game lead.
  21. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) I remember that one start he made for us. ozzie wouldn't take him out, then we came back, scored some runs, and made it close. I think he also had a cup of coffee with Mets. Baseball Reference FTW In the 2nd inning he gave up 2 HRs, 1 2b, 3 1bs, 2 unintentional BBs, 2 wild pitchs, 1 HBP, 1 IBB, got 2 of 3 outs via a sacrifice & a CS, yet Ozzie never pulled him and even let him pitch the 3rd. Sox actually cut the lead to 15-14 at one point
  22. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) I have determined that Kenny must go. Not because of the Teahan contract, not because of Dunn, not because of Rios, and not because of the two Swisher trades. As awful as those recent moves have been, he still probably has more hits than misses. He has to go because the roster he has built seems incapable of beating the teams it must in order to succeed. Teahen
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 08:16 AM) Katy Perry concert was postponed until August due to food poisoning. Now I have to wait another month and a half to get her and my wife to make out. Good call on waiting. That food poisoning could make for a nasty make out session.
  24. QUOTE (kageman129 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 08:04 AM) No one mentioned this on here yet? Angels promote Mike Trout from Double-A http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/...tory?id=6748299 I can't wait to see Trout play this weekend. Excellent skills and only 19 years old. Insert standard "Everyone else calls up top prospects, but the Sox don't have a spot for Viciedo" post here.
