  1. Dunn (When will I learn to stop picking him?)
  2. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 07:12 PM) I totally disagree with that, Russell Martin is not worthy of starting, the all stat game is more of a popularity contest now than anything Of course it's a popularity contest, that's what happens when the fans vote. It has been like that for decades. Some all-time greats have started the All-Star game undeservedly as their career declined, but their popularity didn't, MLB lets the fans decide the starters, and therefore Martin will deserve his spot if he wins the vote as the most popular catcher. It will never be about the players having the best season, until the fans don't vote and every team doesn't need a representative.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) Ill take Barker Not for $3 million
  4. Sox lineup: Pierre - LF Morel - 3B Quentin - RF Konerko - 1B Ramirez - SS Pierzynski - C Rios - CF Beckham - 2B Floyd - P
  5. QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) Rowand blows the game open with a bases clearing double. The worst offense in MLB knows what to do with Doug Davis on a warm summer day at Wrigley. I hope the Sox can figure it out when I am there on Sunday.
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) or Castro apparently. I was joking cause Hill homered just after Pena, but with Blake DeWitt on deck, of course you pitch around Castro, it's simple baseball logic.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) I dunno, his 2009 was epic on the bad scale. Other than on-base %, it still puts Dunn's 2011 to shame
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 01:49 PM) I don't know about you. But I'm definitely looking forward to Chase Headley being selected to play in a game that's supposed to house the best (though I guess Heath Bell would make it in this case). Sad. Of the 8 qualified 3B in the NL, Headley actually has the highest OPS at .805. Sandoval, Wright, & Zimmerman haven't played in enough games, but they still have OPS less than his.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) Note to our pitchers: don't throw Pena anything to hit this weekend or Koyie Hill, lol
  10. That's 8 HRs in 12 games for Pena. Maybe the Sox signed the wrong low-average, high-power hitter?
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 01:26 PM) Please explain to me how the crowd is the root cause of his hitting failures. I didn't hear much booing in April or early May. Why couldn't he hit then?
  12. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) You're starting 9 (per voting through June 21): C) Russell Martin, Yankees 1B) Adrian Gonzalez, Red Sox 2B) Robinson Cano, Yankees 3B) Alex Rodriguez, Yankees SS) Derek Jeter, Yankees DH) David Ortiz, Red Sox OF) Curtis Granderson, Yankees OF) Josh Hamilton, Rangers OF) Jose Bautista, Blue Jays 7 of the 9 are Yanks or Red Sox. Other than Martin & Jeter, all those players deserve to be there. And players like Jeter have been voted in throughout history, guys like Griffey & Ripken when they maybe were no longer deserving edit: Well maybe not Hamilton, didn't realize he was struggling a bit
  13. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) Giving Dunn $56MM is one of the things wrong with baseball and wrong with our GM. Living in a National League city, I have seen Dunn try to play the game in the last couple of years, and he was awful. No National League team was going to give him any serious money, so his only chance was to get a DH gig in the AL. Who was Kenny competing against? Are there any full time DH's getting anywhere near the money that Dunn is getting? Big Papi maybe, but look at his record. Didn't Thome kind of set the market for this type of player? I just don't get Kenny Williams. Regardless, I'll be at the games in Denver this week. Tonight, I'll be right behind the Sox dugout. At least, I won't have to watch that slug try to play baseball. You do realize that Chicago is a National League city as well, right? I watched Dunn the last few years as well, several times in person and nothing he did with the bat could be characterized as awful. Was he a good fielder? No, but that's why he's a DH.
  14. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) Time for them to revisit how the voting works. Tired of seeing 5 Yankee starters including stiffs like Martin and has-beens like Jeter every year. The voting works fine. The fans like the Yankees and want to see them in the game. If you don't want all Yankee starters, then don't let the fans vote.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) He's going to eventually snap out of it and then the other side of the conversation will gloat. Even if he does snap out of it now, his contract will probably still a bust for this season. Either the Sox will have to win it all, or he will have to go on a second half tear of historic proportions. A typical Adam Dunn 2nd half doesn't make up for what he has done in the 1st half.
  16. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:29 AM) So if you have any young kids who want to learn to suck at bunting, get caught stealing and throwing 20 times during a run down, send 'em to OG's camp. I'm sure Juan Pierre getting caught stealing has everything to do with Ozzie and nothing do with him getting older.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 09:03 AM) More KW quotes: "(Viciedo) is playing his (butt) off offensively and defensively. But I'm not going to put a player on this team that my manager is not ready for. I respect him too much to do that. This whole cat and mouse game is ridiculous. KW says that he will call Dayan up when Ozzie tells him to. Ozzie says that as long JP is on my roster, I have to play him.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 08:29 AM) That's the thing that teams never seem to think about. A few years ago the Brewers did the same trick with a kid named Ryan Braun, held him out through the Super 2 deadline, first game was on May 25. Kid comes up and puts up an OPS over 1.000. The Brewers lost the NL Central that year by 2 games. Now of course, you can add all the caveats you want and there's no guarantee you'd have won 3 more games if you had Braun for another 7 weeks...but that's a very close run thing to buy yourself another year before FA. Look at the Giants last year. They waited to call up Posey and they barely beat out the Padres. That almost cost them as well. With Ryan Braun, didn't they buy out his free agents years immediately? They also just signed him to another huge extension. How much money did they actually save?
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 08:45 AM) Will have Juan Pierre induced nightmares if Viciedo puts up similar numbers. However, that shouldn't be the main cause being "JUST" five games down at this point. But we DIRELY need Viciedo's bat for those remaining games against Minnesota (14), Detroit (12) and Cleveland (13 I think). Ozzie can play him all he wants against COL and the Cubs, but that's where the line has to be drawn. After the weekend @ Wrigley, here's how the schedule plays out: 3 vs. KC, 4 vs. MIN, 3 @ DET, 3 @ KC, 3 @ CLE, 3 vs. DET, 3 vs. BOS, 4 vs. NYY, 3 @ MIN BOS & NYY are obviously not division rivals, but some offense could be used vs. those lineups as well
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 07:53 AM) According to this article, Kopecky signed a 4 year deal with Florida. Tallon still has alot of work to do to get to the cap floor. http://translate.google.cz/translate?js=n&...cnej_zmluve.htm Good luck to Kopecky. I always thought he was a solid contributor and seemed to play well with countrymate Hossa. I love the translation errors: Florida is a very nice place, there is still heat Family is an ideal, "said Tomas Kopecky. "In Chicago I had a beautiful two years, I used to have there. He leaves to me difficult, since Chicago is a Marian Hossa, of which we understand perfectly. Life is so hockey. I that in Florida endure four years, "said Tomas Kopecky.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 04:39 PM) Not so. The Nationals also are doing the same thing with Harper. Tampa Bay seems to be waiting a long time to call up Jennings
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) How many teams with a struggling offense would keep their top prospect in the minors who is raking? I know of at least one organization.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) I'm thinking after he finally gets called up and does well, everybody's gonna be saying, "What took so fricking long, Oz?"Hopefully it won't be too late and we fall one game shy of the Tigers or something crazy like that cause of reluctance to improve our lineup. More like "What took so fricking long, Kenny?"
