  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) Christ, at some point you just go after some motherf***ers. That was Castro's whopping 2nd homerun of the year. Gavin throws that same pitch to anyone and it's a bomb (unless of course, it's the White Sox, who have an inability to hit hanging breaking balls). That at-bat wasn't a home run, it was a line drive right back up the middle at Gavin's head. Castro has hit plenty of those all season. There are very few hitters in the Cubs lineup that can beat you, and Castro is probably the main one, I'd rather avoid him if possible, I don't care which inning it is. Make Blake f***ing DeWitt beat you.
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) I guess lillibridge did something to put himself on ozzie's bad side I'm sure we will see him tommorrow vs. the soft throwing lefty
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 12:17 PM) Which with this team means a majority of them will be left stranded. by Juan Pierre
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) Hopefully Pierre gets 5 or 6 ABs. Totally. That would mean we had a lot of baserunners.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) Starlin Castro is not a dude you pitch around right now. Gavin threw an awful pitch, that is that. With Blake DeWitt standing in the on-deck circle? You pitch around Castro every time.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 09:25 AM) Maybe that's it. He busts his ass. He's not a lazy slouch wasting his talents. But he doesn't work on the areas he needs to work on the most. That's what I was thinking. I don't think his work ethic is necessarily the problem. Against the Bulls, he was playing the entire game, then guarding D-Rose for the last 5. You have to be in some kind of great shape to do that. Maybe he doesn't seem to realize that it's about more than staying in shape, you also have to specifically work on certain elements of your game to improve. If he thought the Decision was a good idea, I wouldn't put this past him either.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 09:19 AM) -5 UZR, -7 DRS. He really is a 2B playing SS. He lacks range, which could be why he gets a bunch of Web Gems. Nothing like making a routine play look difficult. Unfortunately, with the quality of GG voters out there, it wouldn't suprise me in the least to see Asdrubal win due to all those Web Gems.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 02:05 AM) So... why not pinch hit for Pierre with two on and two outs in the 9th...? Obviously the lefty/righty matchup is more important then having a player with the power to hit a tying homer with 2 on, 2 outs, against one of the toughest pitchers to get a hit against in baseball.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:13 AM) The other classic on the list is the Mets. Jason Bay is getting paid $16 million this year and has 2 HR. Let's not forgot the Angels. They belong on the list simply for trading for Vernon Wells. He will be making $9 million more per season than Alex Rios.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:08 AM) KW controls the roster but he can't force a guy into the lineup. If his manager is insisting that the player in AAA will not play everyday, and the GM doesn't have the authority to fire the manager, then the GM has little recourse. I understand that. If the manager's present day LF was no longer on the roster, however, would the player in AAA then be able to play everyday? I understand that Pierre will play everyday even with Viciedo on the roster, although I don't even know who you would send down if you did call Viciedo up. If Pierre was DFAed though, then I think the GM could force the manager's hand to start playing Viciedo everyday. If Ozzie then chose to stick with Lilli or Teahen, then I would start shifting the blame his way.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:03 AM) Your imagination needs to look at our current opponent. It's a close comparison. Their bad contracts are larger than the Sox, but at least they are still getting some production. Soriano is at least hitting homers, Z pitches every 5 days, even Fukudome is at least an average leadoff hitter vs. RHP. Then again, the Sox don't have a Bradley/Silva player who isn't even in the majors. Either way, there's a lot of money being wasted on both sides of town.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 07:14 AM) He controls the roster, but does he control who plays? Otherwise, what's the point of the manager? Ozzie needs to go. That would solve all. That is very true, and I am not trying to absolve Ozzie of all blame. While a Lilli/Teahen platoon in LF doesn't excite me, it still would be an upgrade over JP and Ozzie could make that move. That being said, the true answer is in AAA, and I still think it's up to KW to pull the trigger on that move, no matter what Ozzie thinks about it.
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) Kenny is definitely putting this squarely on Ozzie, and I love it. I hate this cat-and-mouse game he is playing. Either way, it's still on Kenny no matter what he says. He is the GM, he controls the roster. If it is his decision to let the manager decide, then it's still on KW if the team doesn't perform.

  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) I wish Fuku was the Sox leadoff hitter. Not for the salary he makes
  16. I think that's the same type of champagne bottle Dirk was drinking out of last week in South Beach
  17. Fukudome, rf Castro, ss DeWitt, lf Ramirez, 3b Pena, 1b Soriano, dh Soto, c LaMahieu, 2b Campana, cf
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) I think Omar should be in actually I'm torn on Omar. His offensive stats seem to be lacking a bit, but compared to Ozzie Smith, he's right there with him and was on a similar level defensively. I don't think he'll get the necessary at-bats to get 3000 hits, as he's 175 away.
  19. Robin Ventura has finished in the top-10(1) & top-20(2) of MVP voting just as many times as Juan Pierre
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) He did say possible. I know fathom doesn't just throw junk out there out of nowhere. Maybe initially it looked really bad? How many times has Albert been on the DL? I would guess twice. In 2006, he missed 15 games from June 3-22, I assume that's a DL stint. In 2008, he missed 13 games from June 10-26, and that's over 15 days as well. Every other season he played at least 154 games.
  21. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) Jake Peavy to the Marlins?!?!?! Is Phil high out of his mind? For Hanley Ramirez? Wow.
  22. Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal #Cardinals' Pujols out 4 to 6 weeks with small fracture in wrist. #MLB
  23. Nicklas Lidstrom is coming back for another season
