  1. I actually think the riots in Montreal are usually crazier than that. So if Luongo sucks and gets pulled, do fans in Vancouver forever banish him? He was the goalie for an Olympic champion, who won the gold in Vancouver. (Although he did very little to do with that win) But he has been directly responsible for several great teams not winning the Cup. I don't know if that contract is very moveable either way.
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) Same as Peavy's injury concerns, we aren't going anywhere. "Hell No! We Won't Go!"
  3. Very impressive DeShawn Stevenson. Even Patrick Kane managed to never get arrested during his drunken title celebrations, and it only took you about 24 hours.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 01:25 PM) And it would be ludicrous to pay a bad baseball player $5 million for three months. The only thing worse than that would be paying a bad baseball player $5 million for one month. aka Manny Ramirez at the end of 2010
  5. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) That was meant to be green right? I don't think anyone believes he deserves a roster spot on this board. Wrong. There's definitely people that believe he deserves a roster spot. They just don't yell about it everyday, 10 times a day.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) Both cities are going to need extra police regardless of the outcome. Both are crazed. I don't think they are comparable in this situation. Yes, the Bruins have a 40-year Cup drought, but Boston has the Pats, Celtics, & Red Sox as winners recently. Vancouver has nothing else but the Canucks and they have never won. Oh, and it's hockey in Canada. Their reaction would be crazed on a much larger scale than Boston's.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) Don't worry, it took 4 batters for the Cubs to tie it. Really Milwaukee, Marco Estrada is your 8th inning man? Where's Hawkins and his .59 ERA? I'm not sure Roenicke isn't on the take this series. The thing is, if the Brewers win the division, I guarantee Roenicke is a leading candidate for NL Manager of the Year, no matter how many awful decisions he may make.
  8. I realize that all they needed was a win, but a 1-0 result vs. Guadeloupe instills very little confidence in this team or program. Maybe they turn it around in the knockout round, but right now they don't seem like a team that will win the whole tournament.
  9. Where is Option C: I blame neither because Juan Pierre deserves a spot on the roster? Some people think that, can they get a voting option as well?
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) So basically another lost season from him. And why is 2012 supposed to be any different? He's going to all of a sudden get and stay healthy? Once is a fluke. Hell, twice could be just bad luck. But three, four, five times? And let's not forget that our rotation could look drastically different next season. Looks like we might have to overpay for Buehrle if we want to keep him. Jackson is as good as gone. Danks could be gone depending on where we're at come July 31st. We've already lost a full season of Chris Sale developing as a starter. So he probably won't be an option until 2013 at the earliest. And there's nothing else even close to big league ready in the minors. It's Floyd and Humber (the latter has all of a sudden become a necessity instead of a bonus) as our locks going into next season. Yikes. Do I think Peavy will make 33 starts in 2012? No. From 03-08, he did make 27+ starts a year. The large chunk of starts he missed the last 3 seasons are basically due to two major injuries, and one of them was running the bases. He probably will hit the DL with something in 2012, but that doesn't mean he won't be a part of the rotation that season and can't provide at least 150+ innings. Is that ideal? Of course not. But with his contract you are stuck with, it's not like you have any other choice.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:01 AM) It's not like he was pitching like s***. Other than that meltdown inning against Detroit, he had been pretty solid. So he can't be offering this up due to poor performance. Nothing else to to believe other than him coming to the conclusion that he probably can't physically do it as a starter anymore. So we officially have a Kerry Wood clone on our hands. A $17 million dollar one. The SP prognosis for this team going forward (specifically after this season) is frightening. I don't think the's giving up on being a starter for the rest of his career. I think he just sees now that his body isn't 100% recovered from all the rehab, along with the realization that the 6th starter conundrum is due to his injury problems, and he just realizes that maybe he should be the one in the bullpen right now. There is no doubt in my mind that 2012 spring training will feature Jake Peavy as a starter.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:46 AM) Either way, unless one of your teams is involved in the other sports, you really cannot beat a Stanley Cup Final Game 7. Here's hoping for 3 OT. No doubt. If it doesn't go 3 OT, I would also take a 7-1 Boston beatdown, just to see some pricless shots of the Canuck fanbase and Luongo getting pulled.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) Juan Pierre couldn't slug .784 in the Sandlot movie. That's probably cause he would be too scared to hit over the fence to the dog. Hercules would destroy Juan Pierre.
  14. Pierre - LF Ramirez - SS Quentin - RF Konerko - 1B Pierzynski - C Rios - CF Dunn - DH Beckham - 2B Morel - 3B Floyd – RHP
  15. QUOTE (MAX @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) Chavez won the last election 64% to his opposition's 62%. Wow. It sounds like there's a bit of voter fraud or corruption going on there!
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) I think it's about time that the NL goes to the DH. Quarterbacks stopped being placekickers and punters several years ago, so I think it's OK if pitchers stop hitting any day now. That would get both the AL and the NL on the same rulebook. Seriously, it's absurd that the AL and NL play two separate and entirely different games. I hope so. I would actually prefer the NL concept of pitchers batting over the DH, except for the fact that most pitchers are so bad at hitting, it ruins it. I understand the strategy involved, but it's just not fun to watch inept hitters flailing away at pitchers with little to no chance to hit them.
  17. If they did go to 15 teams in each league, what do they do about the odd number scheduling? Do you have an interleague matchup every week? Or does one team get a series off at a time?
  18. This is one "controversy" where I fully support Ozzie, and it shouldn't have any effect on the Sox.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) I see the Brewers continue to have an idiot for a manager. Playing Kotsay in CF, and then not walking Aramis with a base open? I feel sorry for Milwaukee fans. Or attempting a suicide squeeze with your pitcher, who also happens to be a decent hitter, who then proceeds to rope a double down the line immediately after you cost yourself a baserunner on 3rd when the squeeze didn't work I was at the game last night, when the wind blows in, you might as well be playing in Petco. There were several bombs that should have been homers but got knocked down as normal flyouts.
  20. Luongo is something else. How can a player be so good at times, put up league leading numbers, then suddenly just absolutely s*** the bed. It's truly entertaining to watch. He has been very good at home these playoffs, so I don't know what will happen in game 7, but one final Luongo implosion would be legendary.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 03:39 PM) 192 Ks in 172.2 IP. 135 appearances. Oops. Well thats a little different, but still pretty impressive.
  22. Hmmm. A .202 BAA, but a 6.37 ERA. 25 BBs in 29.2 IP. I think I know what needs to be fixed with him. Control, control, control. You have to like the 192 Ks in 135 IPs though.
