  1. My 6-year wait on the Bears season ticket waiting list is over, just got an invoice for 2011 season tickets. Perfect timing!
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 26, 2011 -> 09:38 AM) This is what's KILLING me! Our starting pitching is freakin' awesome and we're squandering one great start after another. Of course, as soon as they start hitting, the starting pitching will go in a slump too. Then they will lose 8-6 instead of 2-1.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 26, 2011 -> 09:02 AM) You're missing the point. It doesn't matter what Allen becomes, he was one of our better prospects at the time and we traded him for a reliever with a bad track record. That's the issue most of us have. We could have used him in a package for a better player. We got bad value in return for him. Also, having a left-handed power bat around wouldn't have been a bad thing, given the future uncertainty at 1B and DH at the time. It was a dumb trade then and remains a dumb trade today. Like who? What trade offers did KW turn down to get Tony Pena? You have no idea what other teams thought of Allen. Maybe he shopped him around the league and Pena was the best offer he got. A middle reliever under team control that he thought he could turn around. The trade sucks cause Pena is still bad, and they haven't been able to improve him whatsoever, and he's still lingering on the MLB roster.
  4. I use the AAdvantage Citi cards, they have both MasterCard & Amex. They often have deals where you can get 20-30% bonus miles with every purchase. Out of O'Hare they fly nearly everywhere. When you first sign up, I think you give you nearly enough miles to buy a flight as well.
  5. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 26, 2011 -> 06:19 AM) Wilson Valdez got a win last night. while Jo-Jo Reyes has gone winless in his last 28 starts since 2008. Gotta love baseball. Can you imagine Soxtalk the next day if the Sox failed to get a hit against a position player? -Sounds like Buster Posey messed up his ankle bad blocking the plate in extra innings last night. Giants already struggle to score, that would be a huge blow.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 25, 2011 -> 04:24 PM) Would you bet your house the White Sox were going to come back and win the AL Central? I think not, even if you were more or a gambler than KW. You win, you have Anna Kournikova's or a Russian heiress' Florida mansion. Lose, and you're homeless. Take that bet? 20-25% odds of making it, well, maybe not "remote" but not close to good either. You posted in the AL Central thread that no team in the division even has a 50% chance of winning the division. Would you bet the house on any team in the division winning? Odds are more than likely you are homeless. Take that bet?
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 25, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) Maybe, but the Sox aren't going to go to Texas and win two of three. Not this year. They'll find a way to f*** it up. Just like there is no way this team would win 2 of 4 in New York. Or 2 of 3 in Oakland (The Horror!) Or 2 of 3 on the other West Coast stops. They'll find a way to f*** it up.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) It is much easier to get rid of a guy making very little. They probably would have sent him packing quicker. I disagree. If he was only making $3 million, they would have been more likely to let him stick around and see if he can work out of his long slump.
  9. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ May 25, 2011 -> 10:00 AM) Haha. I know it was a weird post. I like to say unconventional things. I just don't worry about other people's expenses, unless we're talking NBA. So far nobody has said what would be different this year if Rios was making $3 mil instead. Also, I can't fathom that if we run the parallel universe where everything was as it is now, only KW doesn't put in a claim on Rios, that 2011 Cell ticket prices would be different. If Rios was making $3 million instead, then he'd still be a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. The only reason they put him on waivers and let the Sox claim him was because his salary was so high.
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 25, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) I did not stay up to watch this game, but Tony Peña needs to be designated for assignment. He brings nothing to this team, he subtracts. We have a long road ahead of us and we can't afford to let this guy cost us any games. I used to not care as much because he's the last guy in the bullpen, and usually in mop-up situations. However, in games like last night and potential extra innings games, he becomes important too. If you have to throw him in there and he automatically gives up a run or two, that's gonna hurt your chances and every game matters when you are 9 games back.
  11. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ May 24, 2011 -> 06:09 PM) Why the hell does anyone care how much guys are making? Or what OPS you're getting for so many million dollars? You and I don't pay the salary, and there is no salary cap in baseball. We're not exactly handcuffed by Rios and Dunn's contracts. Sure, Rios is not exactly tradeable, but his salary doesn't prevent us from working with the 24 other active roster spots. What would be different if he were being paid $3 mil this year? Tell Jerry Reinsdorf that.
  12. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ May 25, 2011 -> 02:43 AM) And lol at Tony Pena getting the win. He gets the win simply because he blew the 2-run lead, nice work. Great win Sox, great job by the bullpen too, they gave up 4 runs, but they still held off a potent offense long enough, and everyone contributed. Oh, and TCQ is back!
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 24, 2011 -> 11:55 PM) In the "wait, what the f*** just happened?" power rankings, Bieksa just scored a higher score than Patrick Kane to send the Canucks to the finals with a double OT win. I won't even describe it, you just have to watch it. Wow, that was ridiculous. Bieksa was literally the only player on the ice who knew where the puck was. Everyone else was clueless.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 24, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) Yeah no kidding. At least move him down to the 5 or 6 hole. Dunn hitting 5th tonight, Q up in the 3rd spot
  15. QUOTE (T R U @ May 24, 2011 -> 12:46 PM) ew. I bet she can squat at least 450 lbs...
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) If the Bulls had made some of the tough shots Miami has made for the last 2 games, this would be a totally different series. Can we all agree on that? I can agree with that. My concern is this: Are the Heat just getting luckier to make those tougher shots? Or is it because their top 3 players are better scorers than the Bulls top 3?
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 24, 2011 -> 12:38 PM) I never doubted the talent, but the ISO offense they ran fit right into the Bulls' hands - see Game 1. And if the Bulls could shoot better they'd be up 2-1 right now, if not 3-0. Let's not give any credit to the team with the 2nd best FG% against during the regular season.
  18. I saw "Thornton tweeks" and I thought he hurt himself, pulled a muscle or something!
  19. As someone who was excited when the Sox made the waiver claim on Rios, I fully support this thread. Even last year, his ridiculous May overshadowed the fact he really wasn't that good overall. That was the only month he even had an OPS of over .800.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 24, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) Who's a better defensive SS than Alexei off the top of your head? Derek Jeter
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 24, 2011 -> 10:42 AM) Where are these splits from? ESPN says he's batting .273/.349/.436/.785 in May. What ESPN site are you looking at? His player page says .298
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) Holliday actually missed fewer games than Dunn for that injury. No he didn't. Dunn missed 6 games in 6 days. Holliday missed 7 games in 9 days.
