  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2011 -> 08:54 AM) The Heat were terrible in close games this season and weren't really all that great yesterday either. The Bulls were just worse. The Heat may have these "Great closers" but in the last 6:00 of a close game, they switch to all isolation, all the time mode. That works 30% of the time, to first order, no matter who you're dealing with. If you can score 35% of the time, and you don't commit the stupid foul Noah committed to bail them out yesterday, you win against them down the stretch because they go to all iso, all the time mode. Lebron wasn't taking great shots down the stretch. He made that one big three but missed others. He was taking contested shots. He'll make those 30% of the time, but no better. 3 of the last 4 games the Heat played were close. LeBron was making the majority of those shots at the end of all 3 games.
  2. Ok guys. We've won two in a row. If we win tonight, that's called a winning streak. It has happened before.
  3. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 19, 2011 -> 07:09 AM) It doesn't really mean anything, but we're only four games out of a playoff spot right now, it's not like we're toast. And only behind 9 teams for that playoff spot
  4. Welcome back Jake! It's perfect that it happened against the 1st place Indians on a day when Masterson shut us down for the most part.
  5. I know what the metrics say, but that's 4 blown saves now for Kimbrel. Stop blowing the lead kid!
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 18, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) Matt Joyce is a beast. Rays up 5-0. This organization is amazing. And Joe Maddon is a smart enough manager to sit Joyce against lefties cause he can't hit them, instead of putting him in a situation to fail like many other managers would do. Most of the FAs the Rays lost are struggling with their new teams too
  7. Hafner scratched with a bad reaction to HGH injection soreness in his right side.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) Amazingly enough, we're not far off of the 2010 attendance pace despite the weather. After 18 home games last year, we were averaging 22,843, this year after 18 home games we're averaging 22,242. I think the weather was warmer last year, but 2010 attendance had two similar issues going against it. A bad baseball team and another Chicago team on a potential championship run.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 18, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) Yes, best reliever in baseball this year. At least if you believe in advance metrics. Yeah, Santos hasn't given up a run. By that definition and that definition alone he would be the best. But I don't remember anybody saying Dustin Hermanson was the best reliever in baseball in '05. Kimbrel: 14.81 K/9, 4.35 BB/9, 1.09 FIP, 1.87 xFIP, 1.0 WAR. Santos: 10.35 K/9, 4.05 BB/9, 1.98 FIP, 2.79xFIP, 0.7 WAR. And I follow Kimbrel extensively. I've got him in 3 of my fantasy leagues. They started the season with a platoon of he and Venters. But I think Kimbrel has more than shown (11 saves) that he's capable of filling the closer role. Damn advanced metrics. I can't argue with those stats, guys like Storen & Madson didn't match up either, although they have only given up one earned run each all year. I guess there are other relievers that have been more successful than Kimbrel this year, but not technically better. I do know all about him, I watched him struggle to get a save vs. Philly on a Sunday night, but you could tell how electric his stuff was.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 18, 2011 -> 05:33 AM) Santos has been pretty incredible. One of the few good things to happen to this franchise amongst the avalanche of bad the last few years. But the Kimbrel kid from Atlanta has been the top reliever to this point. Best reliever in basebell this year? I don't know about that. He's a hell of a pitcher, but there's several relievers that have had better seasons. A week or two ago there were rumblings about replacing him with Venters in the closing role.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) We're not the worst! 3 of the top 5 teams are under .500 & 4 of the bottom 5 teams have winning % of over .550. Just sayin.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) Is that lineup serious? Per Mark Gonzales Twitter
  13. Pierre - LF Vizquel - SS Dunn - DH Konerko - 1B Quentin - RF AJ - C McPherson - 3B Lillibridge - CF Beckham - 2B Peavy - P
  14. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) Konerko? Good point. With the team's offensive struggles, I kinda forgot how well Paulie has started the season. Although he has some tough competition with AGon, Cabrera, and Tex (Yankee fan vote).
  15. well every team needs an All-Star and I don't think anyone else really deserves a selection....
  16. Sox have to lead the league in winning runs scored on wild pitches! #1!
  17. Tyler. Seguin. 2 career playoff games, 3 goals, 6 points. How about that Phil Kessel trade now?
  18. Way to settle down Danks, didn't expect him to go 6
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 17, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) Why does this board overrate Danks so much? I just don't see it. Is it because he's a lefty? 3 straight years of 195+ innings and ERA of 3.77 & lower in the AL. That's not too shabby.
  20. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ May 17, 2011 -> 07:49 PM) So Cleveland gets the 1st pick as consolation for LeBron, I'm OK with Stern's decision on this. In one of the worst drafts in recent memory
