  1. Speaking of Chalmers, watching him during OT on Monday night was pretty comical. Every time the Heat were on offense, he would head to one of the corners and just stand around, trying not to get in anyone's way. Then once, Wade got trapped, so he had to pass it to Chalmers. Super Mario immediately drove to the hoop and turned the ball over.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ May 11, 2011 -> 01:27 PM) Wade played amazing in that series and this is going to sound petty, but that was among the most controversial games (game 3) in NBA history. I remember that. That series actually made me lose a bit of interest in watching the NBA with all the foul controversies.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 11, 2011 -> 01:12 PM) Valid point, but they still escaped that game. They're something like 3-16 in games decided in the last minute. That stat is still crazy. Wade carried a team on his back down 0-2 to an NBA title. Lebron did quit in frustration last year, but he still has a few Jordan-esque playoff peformances in his past. So it's not like they have never performed well when it mattered. But for some reason this year they have been awful in the waning seconds. Hopefully, it's not a stat that's due to correct itself over time.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 11, 2011 -> 12:46 PM) Right, after they nearly lost it and the Celtics failed to get a shot off. You are right. The Heat did everything they can to blow the game and the Celtics just handed it back to them. The Heat did nothing right to stay in the game on the road in front of a hostile crowd and take it over in overtime. Yes, LeBron did turn the ball over sloppily in a tie game late. That was real bad. But to just point to that one play and say, They can't execute down the stretch is wrong. They did a lot of other things right to win that game.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) So you really think that having excellent role players and an elite coaching staff matters? I think we are going to find out next round.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) This is just a reality. These three knew what they were doing well before The Decision. The Heat, much like the Bulls of the 90's, figure to be in the way of a lot of teams for quite a while. Can you imagine if they ever get a supporting cast? In OT, the other two players on the court were James Jones & Mario Chalmers. Replace them with Steve Kerr, Robert Horry type players, like Jordan & Shaq had, that's gonna be real tough to beat.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 11, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) Robert "Tractor" Traylor is dead. I just posted this in the NCCA B-Ball thread. I wasn't sure if his NBA career warranted a post in here, although I guess he was traded for Dirk Nowitzki.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) I think the TimberWolves supporting cast is better than the Heats... Kevin. Love.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 11, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) You mean in a tie game when Lebron turned the ball over and gave the Celtics a chance to win the game? Or when Lebron buried the 3 as the shot clock wound down right in front of the Celtics bench? Or when Wade nailed that 23-foot turnaround shot with a defender in his face? Or when Bosh boxed out everyone down low to get the key tip-in to ice the game?
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) Has Piazza escaped 100% with his reputation intact? I wasn't sure...haven't followed it as closely as many others, as it's too depressing to me as a fan. I hope not. IMO, it's pretty freaking obvious that he was juicing. If all these other guys are not getting in only because of PEDs, then I don't want to see him in either.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) I'm not arguing that it'll be EASY, but I think defensively the Bulls matchup much better against a team that basically just runs the "Wade/Lebron dribble around and everyone else get out of the way" offense versus teams that actually run an offense and get contributions from all 5 guys. A team like Atlanta is athletic at all 5 positions. Miami doesn't have that. They have 2 superstars and a good player in Bosh. After that they're nothing. If Boston wasn't 500 years old, if Rondo hadn't soared after the Perkins trade half way through the season, and if Allen had shown up to play Boston could have exposed these flaws. But they didn't, and thus Miami looks unbeatable. I don't buy it. They STILL can't execute down the stretch and they still rely way too much on 2 guys. But when those two guys are the best player in the league and a top 5-10 player, it's a little different. Also, I'd say they executed well for the most part down the stretch two days ago.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) Thank you! That's all I was saying. I was getting frustrated. lol. I'm 50-50 on this impending series. I think it's going at least 6. No doubt. If it goes 7 then I like our chances at home. Hopefully MJ, Scottie, Dennis and any other Bull from the dynasty will be there for good luck. LOL, I'm with you on that too. In the end, the Bulls got past the Pacers because D-Rose was the best player on the floor and no one could stop him. Other than game 5, they were all close games til Rose won it at the end. It's a similar thing with the Hawks. The Bulls aren't gonna have that going for them with Lebron & Wade on the court. Playoff series are usually won by the best players and the Heat will have 3 of the 4 best players in the series. Then again, the Lakers arguably had 4 of the 5 best players in their series and they got smoked, so the Heat can be beat. The Bulls can win the series but everyone is gonna have to contribute, I don't think DRose can do it by himself.
  13. You might not spend enough money now to make it worth it, but I'm a huge fan of using credit cards that offer airline miles. I have two different Citi AAdvantage credit card (MC & Amex) and my experience with them has been great. They often have 20-30% bonus periods where you can accrue extra miles, I have been able to buy numerous flights simply due to my credit card miles. It's always nice to go on vacation and fly for free.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 9, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) I'll be in Wrigley in a Matt Holliday jersey shirt tomorrow night. Hopefully the old man and I don't get our asses kicked. How many Cubs fans did you beat up?
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) I think they could pull it off with a moderate ticket price increase, but it's the length of the contract I'm not sure they'd go for. Who is gonna buy those tickets? Attendance is already suffering as it is. Sure they have $60 million in contracts coming off the books, but that doesn't mean the Ricketts are gonna spend it all on payroll. They might need to hold on to that money to pay off the debt they owe.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 11, 2011 -> 02:20 AM) The only team I can think of in the majors that is not the Yankees or Red Sox that has been able to do what the White Sox would be trying to do is the Phillies. They finished in 2nd or 3rd place for like 5 straight seasons, Gillick came on for Ed Wade, and the first move he made was dealing Thome for Rowand, Gonzalez, and Haigwood. They had some dude named Ryan Howard waiting in the wings. On top of that, they had Utley at 2B, Rollins at SS, Burrell in LF, and Abreu in RF - who they traded in 2006 along with Cory Lidle for 4 prospects, none of whom did much of anything in the majors (though Monasterios looks OK for the Dodgers). They still had Brett Myers and Cole Hamels in the rotation too, and a young Madson coming up. There had a good, young core of players to build around, so it didn't take much, and they were STILL selling off. There's two things the Phills had going for them that really helped: 1. Of course, they drafted and developed several players that became major contributors. 2. They happened to open a brand new ballpark right when they were on the cusp of contending. The new stadium spiked attendance to high levels, which really helped them increase their payroll at the same time, and the rest is history.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) Time for a hit and run. or a hit into a double play
  18. Do you know the way back to San Jose for game 7? Feel bad for Niemi, he was incredible.
  19. Torii Hunter single, 1-0 Halos. Not the start we are looking for Danksy
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:10 PM) I can't believe how dumb the Cardinals coaches are. They left Carpenter in about 4 batters too long tonight. He had nothing, as evidence by the 45 hits he allowed tonight. Cubs still only managed 4 runs on the 13 hits. Fire Rudy Jaramillo!
