  1. If the Sox have a late start in LA during a Bulls home playoff game, does SoxTalk even notice?
  2. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 10, 2011 -> 08:47 PM) That is irrelevant when regarding Sox fans. I've come across comments on this and another forum that none of this major losing streak would happen if Peavy were here. Gotcha, I kind of took your post as being 100% your thoughts. The thing about Peavy is that in his 2 postseason starts he is 0-2 with a 12.10 ERA. And he started a game 163 and gave up 6 runs in 6.1 IP, in a game his team lost. If he is such a winner, he hasn't shown it when it mattered in the past.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2011 -> 08:48 PM) 2.85 ERA in Petco in the NL isnt really that great Good point. Garland & Richard were both around 3.50 last season.
  4. Classic game going on in Detroit right now. Niemi is the only reason why it's still scoreless.
  5. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) Then again there may be guys with great stats but mediocre W-L, and they are still mediocre in the win column when going to a different team that is not the Yankees. Some guys just win when they are on the mound. So many Sox fans believe that about Peavy. There is that mental aspect of the game a certain player brings to a team. How do they fare against division rivals? How many times against the Twins is it that this whole team shows no mental toughness? I find it odd that fans look to Jake Peavy for this and no one else. I think you have to take some consideration with wins and losses. Like in 2008, when Peavy went 10-11 despite a 2.85 ERA. Or when he went 11-14 in 2006.
  6. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 10, 2011 -> 08:19 PM) You must be wealthy then. Not really. Check StubHub. Cardinals are in town, temp will be 80 degrees tommorrow night and there are tickets on sale for a whopping $5.
  7. No way would I follow the Sox if they left. It just wanted be the same team I had grown up rooting for. I'd still be a general baseball fan cause I enjoy the sport so much though. Being in Chicago, I'd still be able to attend MLB games regularly on the North Side, so I guess my main rooting interest would change to the Cards/Brewers/Reds/Astros/Pirates. The wife and her family are huge Cubs fans, but no way can I change and root for them.
  8. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 7, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) I hate racial profiling, but I gotta admit, when I am someone in public and see a Muslim dressed in their traditional garb, I get that uneasy feeling. And I am in no way a racist or anything. In fact, one of my good friends in Muslim. The thing is, look at all of the recent terrorist attacks/attempts. 9/11, Mumbai, Richard Reid, X-mas Day plane, London Tube. I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure all of those guys were wearing normal everyday clothing, not any kind of traditional Muslim garb. In fact, I would bet this would make more sense for terrorists, as you don't want to arouse any extra suspicion
  9. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 10, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) Do they still serve Old Style at Cubs games? That would be my preference, though I haven't had Old Style Light. Yup. Some vendors walk around with Bud/Bud Light, some walk around with Old Style/Old Style Light.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) If there's any guy in MLB who's burned their bridge to everyone... It doesn't help that his production went downhill from the day he signed with the North Siders. Teams are willing to put up with the madness if you can hit, but he's not too good at that anymore either. I didn't realize that the Athletics traded Andre Ethier to LA for Bradley. They got 115 games in a season and a half from him and a border line MLB pitcher from SD to dump him. I'd say Beane lost that trade.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 10, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) Coors beats all and thats pretty much all i drink at Sox games. I can agree with this statement
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 10, 2011 -> 11:58 AM) You really gotta call him AI2. LOL, seriously. I kept telling myself, "Didn't Iverson retire this year? How can he be a good defender at this age?" It took me a few seconds to realize who it was.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 10, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) During all Tuesday home games, starting May 10 vs. the St. Louis Cardinals, fans 21 years of age and older can purchase Bud Light or Budweiser products at specific concession stands in the Bud Light Bleachers for $3. Too bad its not valid on Saturdays too. I'll be there for the extremely rare Saturday night game this weekend, bleachers should be interesting. I am pissed that instead of seeing Lincecum, Cain, or Bumgarner, I get Ryan f***ing Vogelsong pitching for the Giants.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 10, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) Too bad Bud products suck. a $3 Bud is better than a $7 Miller, especially if you plan on drinking several of them
  15. Turgeron to Maryland. Great hire for them IMO, sucks for A & M.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) I am thinking about grabbing him in a Keeper League with 5 keepers. Good idea or a waste of a roster space? How many years would you get to keep him for? Would he waste a draft pick next year?
  17. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ May 10, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) Should be a good Western Conference Finals between two historically epic chokers. I don't consider the Red Wings historically epic chokers.... Let's not jump the gun, the other epic chokers still have a good chance to epically choke once again
  18. 2010 Carlos Quentin: Home: .270/.380/.562 Road: .214/.299/.391 2011 Carlos Quentin: (small sample size, I know) Home: .175/.288/.298 Road: .361/.425/.806
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:13 AM) Texas has been playing like crap lately and has dropped to .500. Josh Hamilton & Nelson Cruz have made their obligatory trips to the DL and after Ogando/Wilson their rotation hasn't been doing very well.
  20. Roy Halladay vs. Josh Johnson tonight
  21. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 10, 2011 -> 06:22 AM) Ugh Canucks advance.. I'm gonna throw up. And Kesler woke up this series and Luongo keeps dominating every team that doesn't have an indian head on its chest. Ugh.
  22. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:35 PM) This is a great question. I say immediately, no. 500 HRs is nice, but what about a career .250 average and being a poor fielder? Let's say for argument's sake that Konerko ends his career with 505 HRs and a career BA of .283, and Dunn ends his career with 550 HRs and a career BA of .245. Let's go a step further and say both end up with one World Series ring. Who has a better chance at the HoF? Looking at it again, if you compare OPS, Dunn's career OPS is over 40 points higher than Konerkos, which kinda evens out the average part. If Dunn wins a WS ring, then odds are, he will be a main reason why and that will garner him some MVP votes that season, which will help his profile. The biggest thing missing for Dunn is that he's never even been in the top 20 for MVP voting in a season. The main reason for that is he's never been on a team with a winning record.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) If Dunn averages 36+ HR/year over this contract, he gets to 500. There's a question for you, if Dunn gets to 500, is he in the HOF? He's one of the best power hitters of the era, but that's all he was good at. Career average of .250, bad defender, gonna be a DH the next few seasons. He has never been in the playoffs, has never even finished top 20 in MVP voting. But he will hit that 500 homer mark and he's never been directly accused of PEDs.
