  1. QUOTE (Real @ May 2, 2011 -> 10:47 PM) Dan & Lawrence (Terry was off) were talking about AJ and how his teammates have made it well known that they either hate him (their words, not mine), or strongly dislike him If this is the case and isn't misinformation, why did we bring this clown back? Even Goff said he heard the pitchers can't stand him I listened too and I remember Bernsie saying that, while Lawrence was questioning him, saying that he heard differently. Specifically that he knew the starting pitchers respected him. Then they argued about whose "sources" were correct. AJP may not be the most likeable person around, but if he was that big of an issue in the clubhouse, I'm sure it would have been noticed by KW or Ozzie sometime in the last 6 years and they wouldnt keep bringing him back, especially considering his diminished skill set.
  2. Pierre - LF Ramirez - SS Dunn - DH Konerko - 1B Quentin - RF Pierzynski - C Rios - CF Teahen - 3B Beckham -2B Buehrle - LHP
  3. Jim Cornelison is singing the anthem tonight. Considering the events of the past 24 hours, it could be memorable.
  4. QUOTE (Tex @ May 2, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) So what are we giving the Pakistanis in return for them giving him up? Well there was a $25 million reward being offered, but the Pakistanis were the ones hiding him anyway.
  5. The scene at Penn State last night...
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 1, 2011 -> 08:31 PM) Go Sharks and Go Predators. Pekka Rinne is the man
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 2, 2011 -> 08:28 AM) A pretty far cry from the cave. With the kinds of items that there are in the area, it's pretty easy to believe that the Pakistani army was directly aiding him. Wow. It will be hard for Pakistan to convince the rest of the world that they did not know he was there. Good job by the US keeping quiet about the mission, because I'm sure the info would have been leaked to Bin Laden.
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 2, 2011 -> 01:30 AM) I know I'll probably get blasted for this, but I agree. Some of the pictures and videos I've seen make me shake my head. There's a difference between celebrating and throwing an outdoor frat party. I thought the same thing, but then I read about people who were in NYC or who lost loved ones, and how emotional this made those people, then I understand it more. Then again, most of the people in the street probably had no connection and are just looking for a party. On a side note, I woke up in the middle of the night and found out the news. Turned on Fox News, and they had a live feed from Times Square. One of the guys "celebrating" was wearing a red Bulls D-Rose jersey, no joke.
  9. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 1, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) Haha, I like the two periods there. Thanks for noticing, I purposely made sure I did that.
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 1, 2011 -> 06:13 PM) That is the key. I will gladly watch a s***ty team as long as I know they're following a strategy to improve going forward. We have a lot of people questioning others' fandom on this site, but I wonder how serious of a fan someone is when they vehemently argue against ever attempting a rebuild. It's as though they only care about competing at that very moment and wouldn't follow the team during the rebuilding process. If the Sox attempted a rebuild and looked like the Rays, Pirates, or Royals, I probably would watch very little White Sox baseball and very occasionally go to games. Does that make me a bad fan? I would follow their results every day on my phone or in the paper, but wouldn't actively watch most games. If I am gonna spend my time & money, I would like to see a team that is competitive. Is that wrong? Are Pirates fans bad fans because they won't watch a team that hasn't competed for the playoffs in 20 years?
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 1, 2011 -> 05:59 PM) I don't care what anybody says. The Heat scare the living s*** out of me. They've been dubbed as an underachiever yet they still won 58 games without Haslem and then Miller being crap all year. They have 3 of the absolute best players in the game. I still don't think we can beat them 4 times in 2 weeks. Everyone talks about how the Bulls swept the Heat, but it's not like those game were blow outs. Everyone remembers their s***ty start but disregards that they still had the 3rd best record in the entire league. LeBron is still the best player in the league and Wade ain't too shabby. I really really hope they lose but I'm just not sure I see it happening.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) Honestly that was the reason I proposed the trade even. I was hoping to see someone panic. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Coolness. Hanley was off the board before I could even pick. Hanley hit his first homer today and got back to the .200 mark. Need a 1st baseman to replace Panda, who should I pick up off waivers? Moreland, LaPorta, Huff, Freeman? Any other sleepers out there?
  13. My only comment is that building up the minors is easier said than done. For every Tampa Bay or Texas, there is a Pittsburgh or KC. (Don't tell me about KC's stacked system until they actually succeed in the majors). You can easily try to plan for the future, but have those prospects not pan out, and then what?
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 1, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) I love the "anyone who wants Walker fired is an idiot because hitting coaches don't do a damned thing" defense. Hitting coaches don't do a damned thing and are always the scapegoats when there is very little they can do. That being said, I want to see Walker fired this week. Just to send a mesage to this team that you guys suck and someone needs to start hitting.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) Why do teams pitch to Soriano when he's in one of his ridiculous hot streaks? It's amazing how many pitchers still throw him fastballs over the plate. He has proven time & time again that he can't hit the slider away but will still swing and miss at it.
  16. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 1, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) Bad stats are bad. Using batting average for a team that almost never has a player who hits .300 in a season isn't really a good way to measure "clutch." Further, doesn't this kind of prove my point how hitting coaches don't do s*** for situational hitting? They won 99 games in 2005 with having the 22nd ranked ba RISP. In 2006 they were first and didn't make the playoffs. I agree. I was just responding to the post that was criticizing Walker for their situational hitting. I think hitting coaches have very little effect on the team's results, but want Walker fired just to send a message to the players. I just hate when people say that the Sox never hit with runners on, when in fact the stats show that they do. And in 2006, they still won 90 games and fell apart cause of a tired pitching staff, so its hard to compare to 2005.
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 1, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) We're not fun bad yet? What's it going to take? It was more fun bad when every reliever who came in blew the lead. This past weekend has just been flat out bad.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) Especially since Wade has to score against that boston backcourt, and they've destroyed him this year. Yeah, this is all about Bosh. Wade: 14-21 for 38 pts I don't watch all that much NBA, but I have a bad feeling that the Heat have figured it out and are gonna win it all. Hope I'm wrong.
  19. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ May 1, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) To the fan base. To the organization. To the players. To everyone. If you can't support our team except when they are winning at a 75% clip, Jerry might as well knock the payroll down to $25 million per season, average about 12,000 fans per game, and make a nice profit off TV revenues. This team is winning at a 35% clip. Only one team in baseball is doing worse and they are coming to Chicago on Tuesday. Considering where this roster ranks payoll wise in the league, I think that is reason to not show up. Call it a protest in a way. And only one team in baseball history has ever won at a 75% clip for a full season anyway, that was 105 years ago. (and they lost the WS to the White Sox)
  20. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 1, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) Forget all of the situational stuff. As long as they hit a buttload of homers, he must be doing a great job. Let's not forget all of the situational stuff. Greg Walker became the hitting coach in 2003. Below is the team rank in average w/ RISP since he joined the Sox. Only 2 of 8 full seasons did they not finish in the top 13 in the league. One season was a disaster, but the other season they also happened to be the best team in baseball. They actually have been way above average in hitting with runners in scoring position since Walker became the hitting coach. 2003: 6th 2004: 2nd 2005: 22nd 2006: 1st 2007: 30th 2008: 8th 2009: 13th 2010: 3rd 2011: 9th
  21. @JeffPassan This feels very weird to write: The Minnesota Twins are the worst team in baseball. Worst record. Worst run differential. Worst.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) What are we, eight out? This is getting so ugly so early. I don't care if it's Cleveland. We fall 10 back heading into that 9 game road trip? The season will be over in mid May. We were 9.5 back in June last season and manged to crawl back in first place.
