  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) I would like to rid the world of this mindset. Winning series only matters in October. They have 162 opportunities to try to win 90+ games, or whatever it takes, to make the playoffs. Winning streaks win divisions. Win every series and that's about 2/3 of your games and over 100 wins. When you start losing series is when you need the winning streaks to make up for that.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) This sure is a telling statistic: • The White Sox have two losses in games during which they led after eight innings. The team finished 76-3 in 2010 when leading after eight. The White Sox are a .500 team in games during which they trailed after eight innings. What was their record last year when trailing after 8?
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) I'd rather call in the Curse of the Daggar, Chelsea, since the Canuckleheads already fear it with the weight of a thousand dragons.
  4. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) When do we start taking the tribe seriously? June
  5. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) Bottom line is the Twins never lose a game like we did last night all year long, most likely, and if you guys want to excuse Ozzie be my guest but as for me, I am going to call a spade a spade. A sentence like that makes it hard to take the rest of your post seriously. No team goes 162 games without a blown save from the closer, without a mistake late in the game. Even your beloved Twins or your beloved Bobby Jenks.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 10:26 AM) I have yet to see a fanbase that wasn't smarter than their manager... Expect for the Bears fanbase & coach Ditka. He's smarter than everyone else combined.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 12:29 AM) Well I mean, we have a backup, and honestly Turco (our backup), would be starting for a lot of teams. So if you think about it, the Hawks have probably one of the best backups in the league, the problem is that the better goalie is the inexperienced rookie with no playoff games under his belt. That didn't seem to be a problem last year. Unfortunately, the team in front of Crawford is not as good or deep as the team that was in front of Niemi. If Corey puts up the same numbers that Niemi did in last year's playoffs, I think it might be tough to repeat, cause the rest of the team is not the same.
  8. Thornton's 17 for 41 blows Crain's career 3 for 16 out of the water!
  9. Illinois to play AT Western Michigan in 2016. Ron Guenther 4 President!!!
  10. Come on offense!! Score 38 runs so we can avoid a bullpen meltdown!
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 05:14 AM) Someone in the game thread last night mentioned a stat where Matt Thornton has more blown saves in his career than saves. Insane. How the f*** can we keep trotting him out there in that role?!?! That's cause he pitched in the 7th/8th inning for so long. When you blow a game in the 8th, it counts as a blown save. But if you keep the lead and then the closer comes in, you get credit for a hold but it doesn't count as a save opportunity. His stats say 17 saves, 24 blown saves, which is an awful 41.5%. But if you include his holds & saves, it's more like 122 holds/saves, 24 blown saves, which is 83.6%. Not the best either, but way different than under 50%
  12. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 07:37 PM) Haha no doubt, it was moreso for the entertainment lineup they have planned. Unbelievable. Seems like a pretty ridiculous party, have fun.
  13. QUOTE (OilCan @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) So let me see if I had this right. Thornton, who's blown more save opportunities than coverting them in his career (17 saves, 23 BS in his career) is the WS closer...why?!?!? Sheesh. When you are a 8th inning reliever, that stat doesn't work the same way. Evey time he blows a game in the 8th, it counts as a blown save, but he only gets a hold if he keeps the lead and passes it on to the closer. Add in his holds and that gives you a more realistic percentage.
  14. Games like this are not gonna help jump start the already crappy attendance
  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 09:32 PM) Crain's curve is nasty 2nite. I was about to post that, he's looking damn good tonight
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) JP, you suck at baseball. That's basically my Facebook status right now
  17. Thornton is not looking good out there, even if his defense is killing him
