  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) They just give them to the 14 people who want to go. and then let the opponent's fans buy the rest. Milwaukee is not a far drive.
  2. QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) Losing to UNLV wouldn't be choking. Did you notice who has the higher seed? UNLV is a better basketball team. Moreover they are a horrendous matchup for Illinois. UNLV traps backcourt and plays intense D with lot of ball pressure. Weber's offense historically wilts under those conditions. I wasn't referring to them choking as in being the favorite, as UNLV probably is better. I was referring to them choking down the stretch of a potentially close game as they have done in nearly every close game they played this season.
  3. Interesting stuff, thanks!
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 08:12 AM) Yeah, that's pretty much my logic on why I said a magnitude 8 event on New Madrid would be more damaging than this magnitude 9 event in Japan. I might not know all the details about Japan, but it seems as if the tsunami caused most of the worst damage/deaths, not the earthquake. If somewhere like St. Louis faces an 8.0 earthquake, if there was no tsunami, you think it would still be more damaging overall? I do realize Japan is more prepared for an earthquake in general.
  5. Will any experts even pick Wisconsin to win? Belmont was everyone's "sleeper" mid-major team, Wisco just scored 33 points in their last game too and isn't the same team away from the Kohl Center. I think they can pull it off though, but Belmont +4.5 looks like a good bet to me.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 13, 2011 -> 05:48 PM) Kansas won't get by Boston U. Self has already been upset by Bucknell & Bradley in the first round, he may just struggle with the "B" schools. It's pretty funny that Illinois got set up with Kruger then Self in the bracket. It would be nice to finally win a tourney game again, but having to watch them get destroyed by Self in the 2nd round will kinda ruin that. Then again, I'm sure they will choke away the game vs. UNLV anyway.
  7. Not to take away credit from Kemba, but you probably don't want a 6-11 center guarding him at the top of the key. Ankle breaking will happen a lot with those type of mismatches. Pitt probably should done a better job on that screen.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 10:44 AM) I'm going unconventional and saying that Illinois wakes up and takes it. You shouldn't be drinking before 11 AM Rock.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 10:02 AM) Yup, and all their key guys appear to be in decline. But again, a rotation like that can mask a lot of weaknesses. For sure. Other than Hamels, their rotation is just old too, but guys that have yet to decline and have always been very durable inning-eaters. ***knocks on wood***
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 09:55 AM) Our system allows Walker's smash-and-grab bills to become the law of the land. It allows him to legally f*** over the majority of the state in favor of a select few. Having to wait 4 years to *hopefully* elect someone to fix his disastrous policy isn't exactly a comforting thought for those he's trampling over right now. The system allows for these abuses. That, to me, says there's something wrong with the system. I'm not going to pretend I have the remedy, though. It's law thats being voted on and passed by representatives elected by the people of the state. The way he went about it may be wrong, but at some point the Democrats were gonna have to show up and the law was gonna pass legally.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 09:41 AM) Utley out for a while. http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/news/...hi&c_id=phi Lucky for them they've got that staff. Their offense ain't lookin' so hot. I doubt he plays 100 games this year, that knee is gonna bother him the whole season. I think I underestimated how old the Phillies are. Their only regulars under the age of 30 are Hamels & the RF position w/ Brown or Francisco (who is 29). Even their whole bullpen is basically 30 & over.
  12. Snoop from 'The Wire' arrested in large-scale drug operation
  13. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 08:23 AM) ESPN Sometimes it needs to be watched for highlights/recap, or they may be carrying a game, but their "personalities" are across the board bad. I've muted the tv during SC before. I think everyone hates ESPN nowadays...
  14. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 08:02 AM) Tressel the Calipari of college football? I had Lane Kiffin pegged for that role. From what I've seen, I don't think Lane Kiffin is smart enough to be Calipari.
  15. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) Perhaps the mamms are just one part of a healthy overall "diet," and must be ogled in combination with legs and butt? Don't forget about ogling the personality too!
  16. No one has mentioned GNR a #3 while Metallica is a #4??? I mean Use Your Illusion did rock, but the Black Album & Metallica's longevity easily deserve a higher seed.
  17. Anyone watch the Daniel Tosh: Happy Thoughts comedy special?? I really enjoy Tosh.O but I thought it sucked. There were some funny moments but overall it just did not make me laugh that much.
  18. Good to see the Hawks get a point after being down 3-1 to a good team. But I don't know if that St. Louis shootout goal should have counted. The puck has to keep moving forward and he definitely stopped and backed it up before he shot. Same thing with Stamkos, there's a reason Crawford was pointing to the ref just as it hit the post. Guess it's not reviewable though, oh well.
  19. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 06:16 PM) Littlehurt, I agree with your statement. Here is what I said in the first page of this thread: The fact is most people picked them to finish 6th or worst and if they were rated, they were rated close to 25. Conversely, Painter's team was consistently rated as a top 10 team, to finish in the top 3 of the Big 10. How did Bo Ryan not do better than Painter given what people believed to start the season? First off, congrats on your preseason predicition, almost nailed it. I will agree about Painter, I mentioned earlier that I didn't think he did anything special and questioned him winning the award. In general, the Big Ten was more about bad coaching jobs than anyone doing an exceptional overacheiving job. That made me personally pick the coach of the best team in the country as COY. That being said, Bo Ryan does deserve credit from keeping his team consistent and successful, which Weber & Izzo definitely couldnt do. I just don't think they were as underrated as you stated, it was more about the other teams being overrated.
  20. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) Bo Ryan is the Coach of the Year in the Big 10. Most "experts" had Wisconsin finishing in the bottom half of the Big 10, im not sure they even had one vote in the top 25. Fast forward and they arguably had a better season than anyone in the Big 10 besides OSU. They were ranked #24 in the preseason Coaches Poll. Joe Lunardi had them as a 6 seed in his Nov. 10 bracket. They were unbeatable at the Kohl Center and lost their road games against the top Big Ten teams, just like most Wisconsin teams usually do. Bo Ryan is a great coach, but I don't think he did anything out of the ordinary this year.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) John Beilein would be my pick for Coach of the Year. Who could have possibly called them for the 4 seed come tourney time? I thought about him, but I think their early season struggles are the reason they are on the bubble now. Also, they were .500 in conference, that 4 seed has more to do with the mediocrity of the rest of the league.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) Your thoughts? So far JJ for DPOY sticks out to me as a strange selection, the guy wasnt really a defensive force. Painter I guess gets a bye because Hummel was hurt. Purdue was ranked #8 in the preseason w/o Hummel, so the expectations were there and Painter had the POY. Matta lost Turner but gained Sullinger with some solid upperclassmen, but I'd still probably give it to him. Most of the other coaches actually underacheieved and did a bad job. Johnson did have 2.4 blocks per game, but yeah I didn't think he was a defensive superstar. I don't know who else should have won though? QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 03:41 PM) Holy f***, I don't know if I've ever seen a team get jobbed down the stretch quite like Rutgers did. Take a bow Jim Burr. I didn't see it, but all the CBB people on Twitter are basically calling for the heads of the referees, that the non-calls were that bad. I guess they could have reviewed the final 1.7 seconds too.
  23. @SI_JonHeyman Peavy start (3 2/3 IPs) looked better to us than him. He cited hamstring tightness, normal soreness. #chisox
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) Dat is correct. It was a basketball injury. Also I don't like Greinke's attitude compared to Jake's. Greinke admitted he went thru the motions last year despite making a lot of money. Gotcha, makes more sense now. 49 pitches for Peavy, wow. I didn't expect that in early March. I think he saw Harrell & Humber pitch and said "f***, this team is screwed if I can't start the season!"
