  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) Welcome back! People were just asking about you the other day. Thanks. I forgot the forumer who is counting Viciedo's HR vs Frank Thomas. Every time I see that I laugh. If he can come close to that, he needs a statue next to Minnie.
  2. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) Sexo Cubano -- first of 1000 nice plays in RF ¿Qué? Sexo Cubano??? Wait when you see his arm! The Cuban Missile and the Cuban Tank back to back. This is the Cold War all over again. By the way, USA vs Cuba today in the IBAF 15-16 World Cup. Hello to my good friends in Soxtalk.com. I have not visited you in a long time.
  3. Probably you guys are watching the Sox feed, but I am watching the Nats. The Nats announcers said they do not know the scouting report on Viciedo but keep the ball from the outside part of the play. I said come inside and see the ball travel far. lol
  4. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) Nice swing too. Love seeing Viciedo drive a ball to the opposite field with power. He will do that a lot.
  5. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) The "Cuban Tank" is a terrible nickname too. And whats with the "Viva la Revolución" since he is considered a traitor by Fidel like the other Cubans. Dayan probably feels the same way as Tony Montana: "Hey man, I am a political refugee" Yes, indeed and do not step on my little cockroaches!
  6. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 08:44 PM) Where is the guy who said Viciedo will hit more HRs in Sox uniform than Frank Thomas? It starts tomorrow big guy! Yes, where is that guy? I think that is a tall order though.
  7. Maya best attributes: 1. He is a bulldog. 2. I believe he was working in the Capitan San Luis Stadium in Pinar del Rio as a ground keeper. One day he started throwing and the pitching coaches were surprised by his velocity and that is how he was discovered him in his late teens or early 20's. Unlike other Cuban pitchers like Rene Arocha, Osvaldo Fernandez and Ariel Prieto, he does not have lots of miles in his arm nor has suffered any major injuries. 3. He is accostumed to the pressure because Pinar del Rio is a perennial contender in Cuba and Maya was in the top Cuban team playing under a lot of pressure.
  8. Just a reminder is Anderson not Andersen. The next to sign should be Jose Julio Ruiz.
  9. I forgot to mention he is a proud WS.
  10. Alexei has been working hard toward having a great season. He has been mentoring the young guys. He has done charity work. For Cubans, Puerto Ricans dominoes is a way to spend free time and relax.
  11. I have some pictures of him. I think he will have a great season. http://www.cubanballplayers.com/?p=749
  12. My boy Anderson from my hometown team is listening to offers. He apllied for OFAC papers. That is the last burden Cuban have to face. I am not sure he will make it on time for ST though. He may have to go to the minors and wait for an opportunity later in the year.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 11:27 PM) I still think he will end up in RF. I mean it makes too much sense especially for his cannon of an arm, not to mention we are very weak in RF prospects. Hell even LF I can end up seeing. (Pierre is here for two years, which I'll almost bank that is how long it might take for 20 year old Viciedo to develop in AAA, not to mention if Q is still around as the future RF) I don't think I want a 5'11 (I remember JPN saying he's actually shorter than that like 5'9-5'10) guy manning that position. (especially with errant throws to 1B.. would save alot of errors having a taller 1B there even if his D isn't that great) I wish you are the Sox top scout and decision making. I agree with you. They need to stop BS with Viciedo and send him to RF. Another exciting and promising offseason in Camp Cora. Last year it was more of the same. Fields is history. Viciedo was a colander in AA. I forgot who else trained with Cora.
  14. KW is probably trying to do the same with some Cubans free agents. Yuniesky Maya may be a target for him.
  15. I interviewed this baseball agent. Just in case you like to read the interview. I am gaining notoriety. http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/2009/...on-with-mr.html
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) Are all of these guys requiring major league contracts to sign, or is it something where a minor league contract with an invite to spring training would do? The SOx just filled their 40 man roster, though I suppose there is a player or two who could be dropped. I think their age is against them. I am sure they will get anything at this point. I do not understand they have not gotten even a ML offer. They are producing in the D.R. Winter League.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) $40 mill is too much, but I think that's a likely destination for him. Is he really that good? There are many teams bidding for him. These teams will drive his price up unlike a draft pick. You never know how players will evolve. I think he can be successful. Maybe not the first year or seconmd year, but he should be fine.
  18. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) Cubano, who gets Chapman in your opinion? Angels get him 6 years for 40 million. They signed Morles for 10 million over 6 years. 1. Arte Moreno in a big spender. 2. Lackey and Figgins defected to rival teams. 3. Kendry Morales 4. Hendricks Brothers represent both Morales and Chapman
  19. QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 05:34 AM) Maya played with Alexei on the Pinar del Rio team, starting in 2003. Alexei played with them from 2001-2007. This guy has been doing the homework for sure. KW should hire you as a consultant.
  20. I have a list here with some info on them. I even post clips of them. http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/ Gomez's article: http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/2009/...among-best.html Marti is among the league ERA leader. He has not pitched in a while. Is this because he receive an offer? I do not know. Is this because he is injured? I do not know. http://www.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?po...&pid=493335 There are a lot of young talented Cubans in the free agent market. There have not been a period like this one where many of mine compatriots are leaving. As why Marti and Gomez are without contract even ML ones, I guess because their age. They have produced more than many big leaguers, but still no contract.
  21. I saw an interview with him last season on Cuban TV and he said he topped 97 MPH against the Villa Clara Orangemen. He is more like 93-94 guy.
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) Maya? Is that like Cher? I did not get it. Do you mean the singer Cher? Yuniesky Maya
  23. I forgot to mention that he has thrown 94-97 in Cuba. He likes to come with high gas inside. The Chi Sox may have a few brawls with Maya.
  24. According to his agents, the Mets and the White Sox are showing the strongest interest in Maya. He was throwing 87-91 in the tryouts. According to one National League scout, he also threw sliders, curveballs and changeups. Spanish article: http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story...&type=story He will be ready for ST because his paperwork wil be in order. I wrote something about Maya in my blog including his stats. Hopefully, I will have some videos in the future. http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/2009/...ourth-best.html
