You do not believe me! Here is your boy Quentin again. Titán" González and his brother Edgar, brothers Jerry and Scott Hairston, brothers Andy and Adam LaRoche, Cantú, Quentín, Rod Barajas (born in Canada), Eric Chávez, Andre Ethier, Manny Parra, Johnny Estrada and Nomar Garciaparra. http://purobeisbol.com.mx/content/view/354/

Evan Longoria, Éric Chávez and Michael Young will be asked to represent Mexico too. http://purobeisbol.com.mx/content/view/314/

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 21, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) Are you serious? Quentin was born in California and did all of his schooling here, and I don't think he ever lived there. I guess he could actually play for them if he wanted to, sort of like how Mike Piazza played for Italy in '06. Not only Mexico is looking for Mr. Quentin, but also for Ethier, Dan Haren, etc. http://impreso.milenio.com/node/8103974 I call these players mercenaries. The same thing goes for Alex Rodriguez and Mike Piazza. Where are the Mexican players in MLB, USA AAA, AA, Mexican AAA?
-
Mexicans are trying to convince Quentin to play for them. I have read it in the Mexican media.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 21, 2008 -> 12:34 AM) k I was wrong, he was still born in the US and resides here now. It's frustrating that a talent like that would play for the DR because he lived there for 3 or 4 years. It is frustrating for me to watch how the Cuban government exclude Cuban exiles from participating with their country. It is frustrating for me to watch how MLB is in bed with the Cuban government to exclude Cuban players playing for other nations when the eligibility criteria is so flexible and ridiculous. MLB has always been full of ...

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 10:45 PM) any Sox players (major or minor league) commit yet? I think in 2006, they had 3 players, including Javy, Freddy and Cintron. It would be cool to see guys like Buehrle, Jenks, Thome, Konerko, Dye play for Team USA or Ozzie coaching the Venezuelan team. It was about time somebody in here opened a thread about the WBC. USA vs Cuba in the semis = a Cuban victory

QUOTE (TLAK @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) On paper he's the only legitimate shortstop on the roster behind Ramirez. You spot him all over the place to get him some ABs, but his job is really just to hang around in case something happens to Alexei. Keep an eye on how the others do at SS in spring training; if Getz, Nix or even Viciedo show a major league glove there then everything changes. But judging from stats and reputations, Lillibridge is the only option. Viciedo can not be a SS.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 06:58 PM) Cubano, I like your fire and opinions, but you must post here first in order to post in the Filibuster. I usually post only in PH. I saw this topic here and voiced my opinion. I prefer to post only here. By the way, this iraqui reporter is a big fan of argentinian communist Ernesto "Che" Guevara. Isn't this type of behaviour idiotic? I am done with politics now.

This guy was either from the Saddam Hussein Sunnis or he is using his new given freedom to express himself. If he is not from the Sunnis tribe, then he would not had done this when Saddam was in power. He would have been hang short after. He will be free soon. Bring Saddam back! Let the s*** float on the street of Iraq. Let the radical take over and make everybody go to religious school. Let the whole world kill each other. Put the army on the borders. Put the airforce in the sky just in case the aliens want to come to the USA too. Put the navy on the beaches. Screen those who you want to accept. Send back the rest. Have strong military just ready. There will be another idiot in Europe or Asia that will want to start WWIII. Steal their oil! I am out!

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) What do you guys think our our potential defense next year? Defense and pitching win championships allegedly. How does our D look to you? They may resemble a circus. The ChiSox are going to be called the Chicago Colanders.

Hanging with Mr. Cooper... Daniel Cabrera non-tendered
Cubano replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Against Cabrera, you do not swing. He is going to walk the whole stadium. He has made people in Baltimore crazy. You are going to have two Contreras on the same team. -
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) I agree, if we knew for certain that he was a good CF. Cubano, can you enlighten us on his strengths/weaknesses in the outfield. Is he really fast enough to counter the slowness of Q and JD? That would be my main concern. Stan, He is a good CF. The question is how can the ChiSox improve the most? Well we need a leadoff man. Who is available o rather who can we get? If we can get a SS that can leadoff, Alexei goes to CF or 2B. Team first all the time. Alexei won't make a big deal about it. Cuban players, born and raised in Cuba are humble due to our life there. They are gratefull that they are here. I am not talking about Canseco, etc. If the ChiSox tell him, Alexei we need you in CF, he will go there without hesitation or complaints. How many right handers are we going to send out there? Fields/Viciedo Alexei 2B I think the two guys there are righties Korneko Dye Quentin Anderson We need to have balance.
-
SS is the position he played the least in Cuba. I am concerned about him adapting to a new position. You will see him not covering 2B when somebody steals second, etc. He is not accostumed to it. He will have to develope a routine in SS at 26 or 27 years of age. I think we are asking a lot from him.
-
This would benefit the ChiSox a lot. Alexei CF Furcal SS Anybody at 2B

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) He looks like he might have put on a 20 pounds from his workout to clips they were showing of him playing in Cuba (or whereever that was), but he doesn't look that fat. He looks like just a massive dude. He looks 19 like Greg Oden looked 19. Guys, In Cuba, I did not have candies. In Cuba, I did not have good bread nor pastries. In Cuba, eating lobsters, crabs, shrimps is almost impossible. In Cuba, you do not eat beef steak often. Those are for tourists. In Cuba, I did not have ice creams any time I wanted it. In Cuba, I could not eat many things you have here. When we come to the states or other country, we eat things we have not eaten before or have not eaten in a while. Therefore, Viciedo just discovered lots of food he never seen before. Mexican, lebanese, moroccan, american, italian, peruvian, etc. I will be concern if after a few months, Viciedo keeps gaining weight. Enjoy what you have in USA. For those that burn your own flag expressing your freedoms and rights, I advise you to live in Cuba where we have little freedoms and rights. Even with the current Cuba situation, I will never burn my cuban flag.

QUOTE (tommy @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) From Cowley: Dayan Viciedo has received his visa and will be heading to Chicago this week, according to agent Jamie Torres. He doesn't look that overweight in that video, I was positively surprised as I was expecting worse. Viciedo is coming this Wednesday to complete his physical on Thurday and Friday. Use Google translator: http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story...&type=story

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) Ryan Freel f***ing sucks. We have enough grinders with little offensive talent. Freel and Ibanez are both Cuban American. I like Ibanez for the Sox because he is lefty. Freel no thank you.

I wrote something about Viciedo here. I translated some of the Spanish interview. His stats are also there in case somebody has not seen the stats before. http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/

My comment was just a sarcasm. I do enjoy wearing t-shirts, shorts but do not enjoy wearing shoes with holes. Probably, Alexei was doing some type of event requiring to wear a suit.

A Contreras teammate and friend is calling it quits

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) Pale = White Hose = Hosiery = Socks = Sox It's an old nickname. You guys got lost on this one. Thank you for the clarification. -
QUOTE (Cowch @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) Alexei looks really nice in a suit. We are in America now. We became civilized. No more shorts, t-shirts and shoes with holes.

A Contreras teammate and friend is calling it quits
Cubano replied to Cubano's topic in The Diamond Club
I can not relate Dimond Club with posting different topics. The same thing goes with Pale House Talk. Does Pale House have a special meaning related to the Chi Sox? Lazo and Contreras are still friends. As I wrote, I saw a documentary on Contreras and he spoke very well of his friend. The reporter asked him why Lazo has not defected. Contreras said that Lazo has his own political views and stopped right there. But still they regard each other as being very close. -
I heard Contreras once that he keeps talking to Pedro Lazo in Cuba. http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) Rivera is the only player on that list worth giving money to. No way! He has been a DH in front of Kendry Morales. He woulod not play ahead of Super Kendry in my team. I know what you are going to think guys but that is OK. This Cuban guy is taking Cubans. Many times I get frustrated with MLB. I still remember Rivera patroling CF for Venezuela in WBC # 1. This guy is not a CF.

It the ChiSox sign any of these mediocre players and Viciedo starts in the minors, let me know when Viciedo gets callup. I can not watch the Sox with Owens, Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Edmonds, Taveras, etc. The Sox really need one or two left hander hitters. Thome is Mr. Ponche (strikeout). A.J. is alright. How about Raul Ibañez? Move Quentin to RF. Then, KW would try to acquire a CF for Dye, Vazquez and anybody out except the untoachables.
