  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 11:03 PM) You gotta post more, Cubano. You're a great contributor. I'd agree with the above posters: no one really liked Betemit. It was pretty apparent in late spring that the kid couldn't field at all. His bat was a disappointment though. I got a daughter who I tutor with her school work and it is paying big dividends for her. I just had a son. I am driving a mini van to complete my american dream. Thinking about buying a second home. I am too busy living the American dream. I wish I had more time. I come to this blog almost daily and read your posts though. American dream: 1. Have a job. 2. Have a home. 3. Drive a mini van.
  2. One month does not make a season guys especially with a young player. We would never know how Viciedo would had produced at the MLB level. He could had been sent to A ball and struggle there too. He could had been a spot 3B, 1B, RF or DH with the Sox. How about if Beckham does not produce in the big league its first time around and Viciedo does produce? That could happen despite Beckham having better minor league numbers than Viciedo initially. I am just picking on you guys. Lastly, Viciedo is catching up with his teammates who started the marathon very fast but now Viciedo is in their rear view mirror. Viciedo is second in stolen bases. Viciedo was a subpar defender in Cuba. In the USA, he has been the same. I will give the benefit of the doubt because he is still young, but my patience is waning. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ue&sid=t247
  3. Talk to me about my boy Viciedo! That is what I am talking about. A few more doubles and homers and a better defense and we will be in Chicago soon. He is hitting almost 500 in June.
  4. A few of you got into my case when I wrote during ST that this guy was a liability. Where have you gone now? I had the same opinions about this guys and I wrote let the kids with talent play over these bombs. Bret L. Betemit Owens Fields's faith is to be determined.
  5. This Thread must be a joke. You have to give him the benefit of the doubt. He is young and proved in the minors. This does not mean he will succeed, but he earned the right to play as many games as Fields and all other bombs the Chi Sox have.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) We do a lot of bashing in here, often for good reason. So it got me thinking... what politicians, present or past, do you all actually like? I am not saying you think they are perfect, but, ones who you think are at least close to what you'd like to see? None! All of them need to find a real job to earn their bread.
  7. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 03:41 AM) Actually these are viciedo's numbers... April: K/AB - 3.85 ==== OBP .232 ==== Slugging .286 ==== OPS .518 May: K/AB - 5.04 ==== OBP .314 ==== Slugging .397 ==== OPS .711 This only bothers you because you think they are gonna block viciedo, if he were to make the majors at any point. Shortstop is the second most important position behind catcher, and third base is in the back end of the defensive spectrum. To me it makes sense to have beckham make the transition, so he can hurt his team as little as possible in the long run, viciedo means nothing at this point, in comparison with beckham. The sox brass, in my opinion, are not worried about blocking viciedo with beckham. If and when viciedo does come around offensively, something can and will be worked out when the time calls for it (a move to either first or a corner). I got the numbers from here: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=493364 Believe me it does not bother me Beckham or anybody else will block him. If Viciedo produces, the Sox will find him a position. Once again, Viciedo needs to pull the ball more often to increase his power numbers. It is nice to hit to the opposing field, but he needs to pull the ball and be better defensively.
  8. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) If there's any legit concerns about GB, it would be with the fielding - 9 errors between AA and AAA in just over 40 games. He may well be better for us at 2B or 3B, long term. Right now, it's a competition between Fields, Getz, and perhaps Nix to hold their position on the team, and this competition might be helping to improve the play of each - not a bad thing. Than you very much. I was waiting for someone to point it out. You have a SS making this amount of errors who clearly has some work to do in his position. Now, let's move him to an unfamiliar position. How about if Beckham begins to struggle in AAA from now on or in the big league once promoted? How about if Viciedo hits 800 from now on in AA? Should had Ozzie sent Alexei to the minors after a dismal first month? Was he ready for the Majors? He hit 200. Would that prove one is ready and the other is not? Viciedo K/AB OBP SLG April 4.05 244 299 May 5.04 316 397 Beckham probably has seen these pitchers in college and A ball. Viciedo saw them in AA for the first time. I like the way he is making adjusments to them. What I am disappointed the most about Viciedo is his D. 11 errors is dismal. His fielding in Cuba was not that great either. Hopefully, he can make adjustments and improved but I doubt it. Players rarely change. You are who you are. I had this discussion before with NorthSideSox72. There are some exceptions to the rule of course. Josh Fields is fielding 950 and he can hit the fastball. He is so late against an MLB fastball that you can go smoke a Cohiba and Fields has not finished his swing yet.
  9. This is not true: "Jose Contreras's career started in the 1990's with the Cuban National Team" All cuban players play in the Cuban League before the reach the national team.
  10. Does anybody know what is the word on Viciedo and the fastballs? Has he hit it in AA?
  11. The White Sox will have the arbitration years to keep Viciedo. Good job Balta!
  12. Gamboa http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type...gamboa&aq=f Lara http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type...y+Lara&aq=f Gamboa has made the most noise. Tonight, the TV comentators siad that Lara had the most upside. Guillermo Rigondeaux should make some noise.
  13. In case you follow boxing, there will be some cubans boxer tonight. None in the main event but you may see Rigondeaux and Lara probably in the first two bouts. They should fight for a title at some point. A bunch of cubans have defected in the past few years.
  14. The democrat socialist thread???? Let me get out of here in a hurry. Keep dreaming folks about socialism/left idiology.
  15. I did a little project about the age average in AA. Looks like Viciedo is picking up. http://cubanballplayers.blogspot.com/2009/...est-player.html
  16. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 8, 2009 -> 01:20 AM) it's a weird threshold, but I agree with KW. I'm not down for bean ball wars, but the Sox haven't pitched inside enough this year. Example: Alexei gets chin music.... the Sox staff should have thrown a purpose pitch Zack G. threw to Alexei's head and White Sox pitchers did not do a thing. This is what Contreras should do against lefties and show some cojones.
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 9, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) I generally don't buy the "pressure" argument, but it's safe to say that in no way does Fields even vaguely profile a 2 hitter, and it's messing up his approach. What is his strikeout rate? No way he should be there.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 8, 2009 -> 10:50 PM) We've scored 0 or 1 run in 10 out of our 28 games. It's beyond pathetic. The weather's no longer an excuse. This offense needs more benchings than just Alexei Ramirez. Amen! He should be tried in CF if Nix hits.
  19. I do not understand why the Sox opted to pitch to Blalock intead of M. Byrd. in the 4th. He should had walked to first intentionally.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) Tell me about it. I'm working my ass off on a comparative politics paper. I hear you man. It sounds like a very boring subject. Pardon my sincerity. It feels so good having finished college already especially after seeing so many left wings professors in America. I can not put with all that Mambo Dumbo Jumbo Propaganda!
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 09:47 PM) Third, technically. Brief appearance in 2006. As far as Montgomery goes, there are some sites affiliated with the Civil Rights movement that are interesting and the Southern Poverty Law Center, if you're into that kind of thing. The Civil War battle of Shiloh was all the way to the northeast of Mississippi/southern TENN, so that's about all I remember from my visit to that region. Huntsville is fun, there's the space and rocket center if you're into that kind of thing. BTW, Dayan Viciedo has his 2nd stolen base tonight. Go Cuban Tanko. Good try! Go Cuban Tanko! Tanque de Guerra (war) El Tanque Cubano
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 05:41 PM) I think once Beckham breaks through, he's never going to look back. It might be good for him in the long run if he slumps a little bit now. Viciedo is 3-3. .238 never looked so good. Winston-Salem won 9-2. Shirek (3-0, 3.18 ERA) Homers for Sanchez and Gallagher. You never look so good when you are seeing the ball well nor look so bad when you are struggling.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 07:04 PM) Eli Marrero is Cuban (I think)...does that make both the OTHER Marreros American-born/Cuban descent? Eli Marrero was born in Havana, but he is an american baseball product. Christopher Marrero is from cuban descent as weel as the following players: MLB Robert Andino Bronson Arroyo Vinnie Chulk Ryan Freel Raul Ibañez Mike Lowell Fernando Perez Jorge Posada (grandson of former major leaguer Leo Posada) AAA Jonathan Arencibia Gio Gonzalez Gaby Hernandez Jon Jay Kenny Perez Sean Rodriguez Gaby Sanchez AA Alex Avila Adrian Cardenas Reidier Gonzalez Javi Herrera Ricky Orta Daniel Otero Camilo Vazquez A Yonder Alonso Christopher Marrero Matt Dominguez (Gus Dominguez' nephew) Gus was a baseball agent and is in jail now fro bring cuban players.
  24. Contreras pitched well today. Alexei looks like is seeing the ball much better.
