  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) he'll have to win several more stanley cups dude. Well yeah, but the way he's treated and what he's accomplished, it just seems like it's the Jeter treatment.
  2. I started wondering about this last night when I heard all the things that Toews had won before the got to hold the cup last night, but... Is Jonathan Toews the Derek Jeter of hockey?
  3. I think Putz makes a hell of a lot more sense.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) I feel like the Chicago media is covering the wrong story today. The Blackhawks will very likely win another Stanley Cup in the next 5 years. Lillibridge will never hit a longer home run than he did last night. Poor White Sox, always getting the s***ty press coverage. Exactly, Brent should be on the front cover of the Trib and the back cover of the SunTimes.
  5. I am still in awe at Lillibridge's home run. When I saw it this morning, my confidence in my baseball abilities just skyrocketed.
  6. As an on and off Blackhawks fan (I remember watching them getting their ass kicked by the Blues way back in the 2001-2002 playoffs and going to my first game back in 2000), I can't say this means the world to me. To say that it does would be completely wrong. So congrats to the guys who have stuck around all these years and suffered through the Zhamnovs and Dazes. Hockey is definitely back in Chicago.
  7. Wow, Marmol finally blew a save.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) Strasburg has Verlander's heat and Wood's curve. He averaged 97.8 on the fastball today. That would be the highest out of all starting pitchers, even higher than Ubaldo.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) I will say one thing, at least this team isn't teasing us. They've been horses*** from day 1. I give them props for that. I'm still not over 2003 and 2006. More like day 2.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) Start? Yeah, continue is more like it. My bad, lol.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:24 PM) Wasn't Castro just batting .330 or something? He's now hitting .272.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:26 PM) There was very little chance of winning this game. Ever since Thornton had his elbow issue, he's been a lot more hittable. Now that the front office realizes we're screwed, they should put him on the freaking DL to save him for the future.
  13. We should just start playing like absolute s*** to get a good draft pick for next year.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) Are you Bobby's wife? Oof.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:15 PM) Has anyone been watching the radar gun? What's thornton been throwing? He threw 96-97 to Raburn.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) I don't. Put him in our lineup and I see a big difference. Over a large sample size, it'll end up evening out.
  17. Is Thornton hurt? His velocity's down almost 3 miles an hour.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) Location, location, location. Richard's pitching in the most extreme pitcher friendly park in a vastly inferior league. Swisher's in a lineup that sports multiple HOFs, all-stars and MVP candidates. I thought the whole protection argument was pretty much moot.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) Happy for Clayton, F Swisher. I'm willing to bet he ends the season around .250 .250 is fine for him. He's going to get on base at a .380 clip anyways.
  20. It's freaking amazing how impatient this team is. When you put Alexei and A.J. back to back, that's two outs in a matter of 4 pitches right there.
  21. Only our hitters would ruin a 3-0 count and pop out.
  22. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) It looks like the former one took only the 57 starters that had at least 20 starts (ie the relatively competent) while the latter used everyone (414 for his purposes). I would imagine that if you truly and completely suck, the difference in leagues doesn't affect your results a whole lot (just a theory though). The latter also used multi-year statistics, which probably eliminates some of the variation. A 57 person sample size is a bit small.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) On average, it was a full run, or close to 0.9 runs, something like that. After searching a bit more, it seems like it depends a lot on who does the analysis. Here's the NYT quoting 0.9 runs, , here's hardballtimes quoting 0.41 runs. I would agree with HBT more...they're more sabermetrically oriented.
