  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 17, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) This is getting insane: http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/05/17/expect-...low-to-chicago/ Lebron signs with the Bulls and Doc Rivers is the new head coach? Freakin' insane...and stupid
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 17, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) Since the Sox got rained out, I'll be peepin' the Rockies/Cubs. I suggest anybody who wants to see an electric, 5-tool star in the making that you check out Carlos Gonzalez. This guy is the total package. That's one of the guys I've had my eye on from the start of the season. He and Seth Smith. I watched those two hit like mad last season and just fell in love.
  3. QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 17, 2010 -> 09:11 PM) interesting, i think jones has very little trade value. i expect that he will end up hitting about .240 on the year He's making 500K this year. He won't yield much in comparison to lots of players, but if you were to trade him right now, he'd get you a lot more than A.J. would.
  4. Jones has the most trade value. Hopefully, we deal him before he starts breaking down, something that's probably inevitable. A.J. won't bring much of anything. If we can get a Max Ramirez out of him, I'd be very happy.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) It's between Cleveland and whatever team has the guts to bring in Calipari. That's what Laurence Holmes was talking about today. KC Johnson wrote something about this in the papers today. In my opinion, if you can get LeBron, great. But I'll settle for Wade or Bosh.
  6. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ May 13, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) Celtics Lakers Finals IMO. It might be a repeat of last year's finals. I don't see Boston beating the Magic.
  7. QUOTE (scenario @ May 13, 2010 -> 05:29 PM) Not sure if this has been posted already... if so, sorry. I'm too lazy to look into it before posting. Here's where the WhiteSox rank in MLB in a variety of offensive categories as of today (5/13)... Hits - 27th Doubles - 25th Triples - 24th Homeruns - 4th RBI's - 24th Walks - 14th Strikeouts - 1st Stolen Bases - 2nd Batting Average - 29th OBP - 24th SLG - 19th OPS - 20th They're also 19th in wOBA, which makes sense since they're around 20th in OPS. It's amazing, because the Astros have a .266 wOBA.
  8. So they go from one bad manager to another. Awesome.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 12, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) You know what really bothers me about WAR? It's the 10 runs/win. Think about it, you have all these complicated numbers calculated out to 3 or 4 significant figures. OPS of 1.012, wOBA of 0.352, UZR numbers of 10.5, on each of those you're calculating and probably keeping more significant figures to calculate runs saved. Then, you just slap a single significant figure on it, 10 runs/win, and voila. Really, it's not 9.453 runs/win? It's exactly 10.0000, in every circumstance, in every season? It's 10 runs because it has something to do with the Pythagorean W-L record. "Once you have obtained a player's RAR value, the translation to wins is fairly simple. Using a team's pythagorean winning percentage (RS^2/(RS^2 + RA^2)), it can be proved that for every ten runs that are lost or gained a win is similarly lost or gained. For every 10 runs a player is above a replacement level player, he is worth 1 win to his team."
  10. LOL @ the Thome thing.
  11. Well, he did get Punto out. But if Span gets on here, you have to go to the bullpen.
  12. If Bobby would have walked Young, I would have been furious...
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) What is WAR by the way? Wins about replacement? And how do you measure that? Yup. You calculate it by taking a batter's weighted on base average (wOBA) and converting it to runs produced on offense. Then you take UZR and convert it into runs saved on defense. Add them together, add the replacement level production, add a position adjustment value, and you have your runs above replacement. Every 10 runs = 1 win share. Rios has a 1.8 WAR right now, meaning he has produced/saved 18 runs above replacement level production.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) Well when you consider the question what is it good for (absolutely nothing), I can't take such a fact seriously. He's still having a great season so far though. That joke is starting to get old.
  15. Alex Rios is fifth in all of baseball in WAR.
  16. I hope that means Williams is gone.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2010 -> 11:59 AM) From someone that I trust, Jenks is not throwing the curve anymore because of the stress it puts on his elbow. He doesn't want to get injured prior to his free agency contract. Sadly, he's losing money by the day not being able to throw his best pitch. He's losing his own game.
  18. Katy Perry doesn't even belong in the top 50...
  19. Looks like that's the type of pitcher that cripples the Rays. For whatever reason...
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ May 9, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) I watched the last inning or so, and he reminded me a lot of Buerhle. Similar type of pitcher. Mediocre at best fastball with a very good straight change.
  21. Wow, so the Rays have had a perfect game thrown against them twice in less than one year.
