Which ex-Sox Player Would You Want Back for 2010 Team?
chw42 replied to jasonxctf's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Give me Swisher or Thome back. -
The moment SOMETHING didn't make sense in UZR, people have to go crazy and say "see, sabermetrics = invalid, ignorance FTW" The new improvements in UZR, which take positioning and park factor into account, has Jason Bay at a +2 instead of a -13 he was given last year. Due to this, some guy at the Boston Herald and Deadspin decided to say sabermetrics = invalid and that Jason Bay deserves some kind of an apology. Nice research done... Too bad his UZR in the past three years is like -30... http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/uzr-and-jason-bay/

QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 04:07 AM) Carson cistulli from fangraphs (nice little write-ups) expects solid results out of lewis. Marc hulet who is also from fangraphs thinks otherwise. xFIP has him at 3.87 so far and tERA at 4.14. I think he could definitely be a pitcher around there. He's averaging 10 Ks/9. ZiPS thinks he's a 4.3 ERA guy. -
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 11:42 AM) I think Andruw was afraid he'd somehow break Omar's hip Yeah, he didn't want Omar to come up even more lame.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 12:59 AM) No love for Colby Lewis? RP turned SP. He's been very good so far. Just did in post above. -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 12:35 AM) Who is this Wilson fellow? The guy the White Sox absolutely hate and the one that Quentin absolutely destroyed back in 08 in that crazy game that Clayton Richard started, where Alexei made his glove flip. And I also forgot to mention Colby Lewis. That guy's probably their best pitcher right now. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 12:54 AM) We're not talking Pierre vs. Damon here though. Pods is stronger than both no doubt.. so I'll give him props that he can throw the ball from the outfield and have it bounce to second base on two hops instead of four (+) like the other two. Here's a nice tidbit Pods didn't even bother to throw the ball home when Delmon Young wasn't even on third yet on a base hit. This was like two days ago. BTW, Damon is actually better than Pierre at throwing.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 10:11 PM) You could be right. Although I don't know if I'd add 9 wins to their total if they were healthy all year. I mean, they lost to the Nets twice. No excuse for that. No way in hell they win 9 more games if Rose and Noah are healthy. Maybe 5 more, but 9 is a bit too much considering that Noah was out for what? 15 games? Rose only missed 4. So I really don't think the Bulls would have been a 50 win team.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 12:45 AM) Honestly you didn't even need the stats to prove your point. Most can see it from their eyes alone (at least.. I HOPE which is pretty obvious) that Pierre's arm is worse. Only guy that rivals his is Damon. I hate both players.. in fact.. I hope Mitchell someday makes it or some other FA/trade player comes in to get us away from these slap happy lead-off hitters so Ozzie can open his eyes. I hate Pods' game and as a player, but if there was one guy that would make me miss Pods (or hate him less).. that is Juan Pierre. (Gathright/Tavares too, but everyone, including themselves, knows they suck) I'll like Pierre if he gives me a .350 OBP and/or not get CS alot (or hell.. give me a god damn XBH or two) to go along with that average he will probably hit. No, it was necessary. The two are so damn bad that it's hard to tell which one is worse, eye test or no eye test.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 07:02 PM) I don't know what some of you are watching, but from my perspective, Pierre's arm is awful and even worse than Podsednik's. That throw to 2nd was brutal. Anyone with a half decent arm out there, and the runner isn't even trying for 2nd. I think it actually is worse than Pods'. Pods' career ARM UZR: -13.3 in 6711.2 innings Pierre's career ARM UZR: -40.6 in 11575.1 innings. This averages out to... Pods: -2.68 runs saved with his arm per 150 games. Pierre: -4.74 runs saved with his arm per 150 games. But these are just OF numbers in general, you also have to consider that Pierre played CF for a long time and Pods played LF for a long time. So taking LF numbers ONLY. Pierre: -3.2 in 1276 innings. Pods: -13.3 in 3450.2 innings. Averages: Pierre: -3.39 runs saved with his arm per 150 games. Pods: -5.2 runs saved with his arm per 150 games. Looks like Pods' arm actually got worse when he came here. His arm was actually mediocre in Milwaukee. Pierre's sample size is a bit small in LF since he's only played there sparingly these past three seasons. But it's almost a big enough sample for one full season (which to be honest with you, isn't really enough, but that's all we have). So I think it's fair to say that Pods has a slightly better arm, or used to at least. He doesn't now, not since joining the Sox.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 12:12 AM) I like the Pods of the last season and so far this season. I am not looking at career stats. I am looking at the Pods I saw last year and this year. He is hitting .385 with no homers and 8 RBI with OBP of .453 and .400 SLG and OPS 853 He has stolen eight bases and been caught once. Last year in 132 games he hit .304 with 30 SBs and was caught 13 times. I don't think he's an all star necessarily but he was our team MVP last year and is tied with Jose Guillen for KC's team MVP in April. I just think he'd have been a better option than Pierre. I'll be straight with you here, that's not saying much. Pods has been light years better than Pierre so far, but by the end of the year, this might not be the case.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) When the man is healthy he's a pretty damn fine offensive player. The keyword here is health. That's something that Pierre has had. He's been consistently on the field while Pods is either struggling due to injury or injured.

Rangers lost today. Looks like they're giving up a decent amount of runs. But we're running into their two best pitchers so far in Harden and Wilson. -
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 07:07 PM) Once he loses some of his bat speed in the next couple of years this is going to not look like a good move. It's not even a good move to begin with.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) Anyone else see poor Omar Visquel get completly ignored on a high-five attempt as Jones crosses home plate after his walk-off? http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=7620537 Omar was too lame for Andruw to high five him.
-
I literally think of Dan Hudson as a right handed Clayton Richard, but is a guy with actual secondary pitches he can command consistently.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 24, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) Just heard his interview. Basically, Jake said that when he got to Spring Training, Coop and the staff tried to "fix" his mechanics. He said that he tried to do some new things in the first few starts that weren't working out, and after watching some tape, Coop and him realized that he just isn't the kind of pitcher that uses perfect mechanics. He's going to try to go back to what he did in '07 and his 8 years with the Padres. I guess he's the Favre of baseball. Awesome at what he does, but no one should try to emulate his mechanics. Coop was trying to make him last longer so that Kenny wouldn't look so bad with that contract of his if he were to go down. Peavy's mechanics are such crap, but it's what makes him so good. His motion creates a whip on the ball and makes it move a lot more.
-
They're actually going to pay him until he's 37 or 38. What a stupid idea. He was already signed through 2011.
-
Mike Pelfrey is just getting ultra lucky.
-
Massive overpay. Jesus.

I wasn't aware of this until I saw the pitch f/x data, but Javy has lost nearly 3 MPH on his fastball this year.

Texas' PA system is also extremely annoying. -
Any person who wants Richard back instead of Peavy is CRAZY.

I can't believe Brooks Boyer agreed to this.
