QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) <!--quoteo(post=2122232:date=Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:00 PM:name=chw42)-->QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) <!--quotec-->I'm not worried about the getting lit up part, I'm worried about his lack of velocity tonight. Good pitchers can have bad location and movement sometimes, that's no reason for concern. But the fact that he was throwing in the high 80s and topped out at 92-93 at most worries me. Peavy's delivery is one that is incredibly hard to watch and mechanically terrible. However, I think the mechanics is what gives him such good movement on his pitches, because he has such intense whip with his arm that creates movement on the ball. If he wants to pitch past his prime, he's going to have to change something or he's not going to get past age 31 or 32. Whenever you see Jake losing velocity, it might be a big indicator on something being wrong with his arm. He threw with better velocity in his first start against KC last season. I could be completely wrong, but his next start will be very, very important. AVG MAX DATE 93.27 95.7 - 3/31/08 92.88 93.6 - 4/05/08 91.72 94.6 - 4/06/09 91.93 94.1 - 4/11/09 91.75 93.8 - 9/19/09 91.64 93.4 - 9/25/09 91.21 93.3 - 10/2/09 90.77 93 - 4/7/10 89.93 91.2 - today Good stuff, he did have about 2 miles better against KC. -
QUOTE (heirdog @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:13 PM) How about giving up an oppo homer with 2 strikes on a guy who was batting .067 coming into the game to blow a save instead of walking two guys and then getting a K on the other team's 3rd hitter and DH to notch the save. Jenks would then definitely rank ahead of Frasor from Toronto. Nobody said that Frasor was better, because he's probably not.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) Too bad he would never end up with a WHIP around 2. But he may end up with an ERA of 2.25. BTW his WHIP is 1.67 and at its highest in his worst year he was at 1.39. He has had a sub 3 ERA 3 out of his 5 seasons. You continue to worry about things that make no sense, and Bobby will continue to be a very good closer. A 1.67 is also pretty damn bad and a 1.39 is also bad for a closer. Your closer is supposed to be your best reliever, if Ozzie wasn't so damn fascinated with using Thornton against lefties so much, Matt should definitely be this team's closer. Bobby's no longer a guy you can go to every day because his stuff is so erratic. He no longer has consistent velocity and his curveball might be there 25% of the time. You just can't deal with something like that. If he keeps allowing people on base, his luck is going to run out. Alex Gonzalez was a split second away from walking us off with that foul ball he hit. He was just a bit too quick, if he wasn't, we'd all be b****ing about how bad Jenks is right now, you included.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:10 PM) Pfff, are you kidding me? I suspect you think all hitters should hit 1.000. Bobby had excellent stuff and was getting squeezed. That last pitch sequence was f***ing nasty. He was throwing 93. He didn't have the velocity he did yesterday and he didn't have the curve. When he has neither enough velocity on the fastball or the curve, he makes all of very nervous. Jenks has a WHIP around 2 I imagine, that's pretty damn bad for a reliever.

Cowley said that Rios liked the boos, it fired him up. Then Buehrle and Putz boo'd him. Classic stuff from Mark.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:07 PM) Jenks 1.0 IP 0H 2BB 1k sv 2.25 ERA Terrible huh? The two walks is really bad, especially when you consider that he walked Alex freaking Gonzalez and Jose Bautista.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) so this Verlander fellow has given up 10 ER in 10 IP... but he blows so whatever. That Verlander fellow still threw 97. -
What we learned: 1. Jones can still hit and should start more than Kotsay. 2. Teahen is not dead 3. Randy Williams should not be put into big situations. 4. Bobby Jenks is becoming a terrible closer. 5. Jake Peavy may be hurt or maybe it was just a really bad day. It was great to win here for the first time in two years, but I think we might have learned something really, really bad.

Jones isn't even that bad against right handed pitching. I think he should start 75-80% of the games at DH or RF.

I'm so tired of Carlos rolling over on an outside pitch. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) No one thinks he sucks. He is a player who plays with his head buried in his rectum way too often. there is a large difference. A lot of people thinks he sucks and is better at 2B than SS. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 08:19 PM) He wasn't pitching around him...he lost all command of his fastball. Alexei with some interesting footwork on that grounder. Are you sure? He missed pretty badly on all of those, which is pretty unlikely. -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 08:16 PM) guess who's gone from this team? Do not give Ozzie a bad left handed reliever, he will overuse him and he will suck. End of story. -

Jake had bad control, bad velocity, and no movement. Just one of those days I guess... He threw better in 30 degree weather than he did today. I think it's the high socks. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 08:00 PM) Pierre has no hits when he's pulled this ball, I believe. I can't believe he's getting the most at bats on our team. He's really good at fouling pitches off. Why not do that until the pitcher walks you? Take advantage of your talents Juan, hitting isn't one of them, but getting on base could be. -

Looks like Cito Gaston is pulling an Ozzie. With Pierre and Teahen, he's not bothering to pull Tallet. It cost him. -
