GAME THREAD: 4/8, CLE v CHW, 7:10pm CSN+

QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) Our best defensive alignment is pierre, rios, and jones from left to right, i have little doubt. I'm rather high on jones defensively and think he will be more than fine (plus defender) in center when out there. Now do i think rios should be in left in favor of jones? Not so much, it's borderline asinine. Hopefully though jones pulls back two at the fence today and makes ozzie look like a genius, it wouldn't hurt my feelings any. In regards to dhing pierre. I would really have no problem with it if pierre was batting ninth rather than first. But it is what it is. Our problem is this now guarantees our worst hitter in the first place the most plate appearances, and now he has a pretty mean handicap against himself. The problem is dhing is incredibly hard and makes even the best of hitters (vast majority of the time) worse... considerably. I see it like this, carlos quentin dhing would hurt us more offensively than pierre dhing ever could. But then again you have to consider the defensive differential between the two, which does come into play. Positional adjustment in runs per 600 PA. This too. This is why you don't put some bad hitter at DH and just say whatever. It's because the average DH is much better and your team is losing out on production if you put a crappy hitter there. More so than putting a crappy hitter anywhere else. That plus the fact that Pierre is a better defensive outfielder than Quentin makes this a really bad move. -
Just Cause 2 is a lot of fun.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) no reason to boo the guy. he was here for a few seasons, had some nice moments. but it was all at the end of his career. he wont go down as a sox legend. i consider him more of an afterthought as a sox player, sorta like a zisk or gamble. I was being sarcastic, lol. I wouldn't boo him. If you want to blame anyone for him being on the Twins, blame Ozzie for being ignorant and Williams for lacking balls to override Ozzie's ignorance.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) I don't have a problem with DH'ing Pierre, you take your weakest outfielder out and you replace him with Jones, while getting Kotsay out of the lineup. Pierre's got the weakest arm, but he is not the weakest outfielder. That's Carlos. -
Hochevar was throwing gas last night. Got it up to 98.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) I'm not a fan of Quentin sitting for 30 minutes between his at-bats. He'll go nuts. Although I do think that Carlos is a maniac, I don't think one game at DH is going to hurt him. Considering his past health issues. Plus, switching outfield positioning like this is never a good thing. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) Will Sox fans boo Thome like the Indians fans did? Just like we boo'd the hell out of Crede when he came back last year.
-
I think I should make another thread titled, "why Juan Pierre should NEVER DH". But I'll save myself the trouble.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) Jones is playing today. Woot! Pierre dh Beckham 4 Quentin 9 PK 3 Jones 8 AJ 2 Rios 7 Teahen 5 Ram 6 Is he seriously DHing Pierre? Face palm* If you're going to DH anyone, DH Quentin. And what the hell? Rios has been great these past two days in center. Why switch him to right? I'm getting sick of Ozzie flipping things around when they've been fine. -

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) Well the Indians had about 15 lefties in a row coming up. Plus since Jake could only go 5 we had to go deep into the pen. The other choice was Linebrink or Santos and I don't think Ozzie has any intention to use Santos in a meaningful spot. Williams scares the hell out of me. Thornton should have been in there against guys like Sizemore, Choo, and Hafner. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) It's hard to win with pitching when your "best" guy gets pulled after 5 because he can't locate his pitches and then you bring in Randy Freakin' Williams. For an inning and a third too... I think that's one of the reasons we lost yesterday. Ozzie went far too long with Williams. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 08:52 AM) Vernon Wells is 5/7 with 3 HR and 6 RBI. Even when we think that small sample sizes are totally irrelevant, this has a nice effect on his projections. Wells was projected to hit 18 home runs this year with a .327 wOBA. Now, if you take 7 PAs from the projection and add what he has done so far, he's good for 21 HR and a .333 wOBA. That's a transformation from below average offensive player to average offensive player.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 12:36 AM) He looked outstanding. No doubt it may be the biggest steal of the FA players signed by anyone. Can't believe that guy once threw right-handed before his arm got destroyed. Really? Holy crap.
-
QUOTE (CarlosMartinez @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 11:35 PM) Why? He's 0-4 with 2 k's. Kotsay may not be the answer but neither is Jim f'ing Thome. .................................................................................................... ................................ 4 AB sample size FTW.
-
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) Why you swing at that? It's A.J. what do you really expect?
-
Well, we got a reality check today. We can't hit.
-
QUOTE (beckham15 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 10:19 PM) not even on the NATIONALS To be honest with you, the Nationals have a pretty good lineup.
-
QUOTE (beckham15 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) he doesnt deserve to be considered as a number 5 hitter in the NL either Not even on the Astros or Giants.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) They're not even going to pinch-run for him. HE'S A BURNER DUDE!
-
Come on Alex.
-
Just walk Kotsay. Get on base, PLEASE!
-
Kotsay's going out there. This is driving me crazy. What happened to equal playing time Ozzie?
-
QUOTE (SockMe @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) ugggh Tony Pena, all I wanted to say. LETS MAKE A COMEBACK! Ozzie's the one who went almost 2 innings with a LOOGY.
-
Remember when we went down 4-0 in 05 during the second game of that year and absolutely bombed Bob Wickman? I wanna see that again, except we replace Wickman with Perez.
-
QUOTE (beckham15 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) 27% said 79 or under ha! Cubs fans.
