  1. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) Yeah but he lost like 30 lbs, that just takes the fun out of it. Isn't Randy Williams fat? He'd be fun to mock. Williams is far from fat
  2. We're going to need him to do well now that we missed out on Damon.
  3. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) Here's the argument for Beckham being better than Utley, Pedroia, and Kinsler. It's the RBI's. Utley is already 30, so while he'll keep playing at a high level, it won't be for more than around 4-5 years. He's the only one of the three that would have RBI totals toward what's expected from Gordon, who will end up batting at 3rd, while Kinsler and Pedroia will probably be batting 1st and 2nd. If Alexei becomes a good #2 hitter, or a D2 and Mitchell combo takes that spot in front of Gordon, he'll have an RBI feast. Also, Gordon hit a majority of his HR's on the road, and once he adapts to our HR-friendly park, it wouldn't be out of the question for him to average 25-30 HR's. It's amazing how overrated RBI is.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) Astros extend GM Ed Wade through 2010. How do people like Wade have a job...?
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) Pierzynski thinks Damon is a no-go. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...g-with-sox.html Not surprising.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 01:55 PM) Well, Utley is 31 already, so I can see them thinking maybe he will decline during the second half of the decade... Yeah, that's true. But I feel that Utley is so much better than Beckham, Kinsler, and Pedroia, that if he continues his type of production for around 4 more years, he should probably be on the list.
  7. Wow, they really do love Gordon Beckham. They picked him over Kinsler, Pedroia, and Utley though? Hmm...
  8. Boras is a crazy man. A very greedy and crazy one.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:21 PM) Ugh. My sister-in-law went to the same law school as Boras, apparently the Cubs paid for his education since he suffered a career ending injury in their farm system. Darn Cubs. If I'm Kenny, I go to the Padres and get a deal done for AGon now. Going into the season with this big a hole is idiocy. The Cubs are to blame for everything, it's official. I bet we all wish that Boras failed all his classes in that law school now. Baseball would be so much better without him.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Blalock's still out there, but with being a Boras client, I can't see that happening. Definitely not after what just happened.
  11. QUOTE (beck72 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) It's also Kenny probably having enough of the Boras B.S. where everything turns into a soap opera. There is the possibility of Damon accepting a sox deal. But on the sox terms, not Boras'. The "new" demands by Boras shows he's a jag trying to screw teams out of every dollar, if Det. never offered a 2nd yr and the $7 mill. has a lot of deffered cash. The amount of misinformation--outright lies--coming from Boras has to drive teams crazy. Boras has no morals whatsoever, the guy's like the African warlord of agents. This thing has been so damn messy that nobody's right anymore. None of us know anything.
  12. Kenny Williams NEVER talks about this kind of stuff openly, especially when the player isn't even signed yet.
  13. Scott motherf***ing Boras and his stupid ass tactics. Ugh.
  14. This is like Money Ball, except it's a TV show and our front office is nowhere as near as interesting as the A's front office... On a second thought, it really depends on what you mean by interesting.
  15. QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) At 15 posts per page we're in the middle of page 97. Yup, let's hope this deal is done by the 100th page, it doesn't even matter who he signs with any more. Let's just move the f*** on.
  16. http://gameinformer.com/blogs/editors/b/gi...f-mlb-2k10.aspx Gameplay video for 2K10 is out, looks pretty damn good.
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 02:05 AM) It's just unbelievable enough to be believable. Yup. You know, we can all make this guy famous right now. Post this up on MLBTR and see how they make this out to be. xD
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 01:09 AM) The Sox are going to the NFL. This is why we drafted Mitchell. And Josh Fields a while back? Joe Borchard too huh? lol
  19. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 10:52 PM) I just picture Lilly slamming his mitt on the mound. Actually... that would be a cool gif... That's been done before actually. Not sure where I saw it though.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 12:58 AM) He did do a good job hitting home runs and drawing walks last season. But that was almost entirely early on, as he had a .643 OPS after the All Star Game, and although I'm not a big batting average guy, he hasn't hit above .222 since 2006. I just think he's done, but I hope i'm wrong (even if Damon signs with the Sox.) He got hurt. If Jones can stay healthy and produce anything close to what he did before the ASB, then this team doesn't need Damon. But we all know the chances of that happening are pretty slim, I'd say 10-15%.
  21. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 01:01 AM) OK, don't shoot the messenger and I have no idea who this dude is, he looks like a scout....but here are a few tweets: An inside source to the negotiations between the ChiSox/Boras/ Johnny Damon stated that a deal is done pending physical #mlb #whitesox about 4 hours ago from web Source stated that Damon's contract with the White Sox is complex, and a healthy chunk will be based on player performance #mlb #whitesox about 4 hours ago from web http://twitter.com/Roger26N This is a pretty random source. What he is reporting may actually add up: 1) Why there is a "delay": The Sox can't offer the most money up front, but they can offer deferment in the form of performance bonuses. I imagine there are a lot of creative milestones in the contract that would allow for a larger payday. This kind of complexity does explain why it would take time to hammer out a deal 2) Why the action just "stopped": After a brief comment from KW and a cryptic statement from the Front Office, today brought a sudden silence from all camps. I know Kenny would demand a gag order if the deal is pending finalization. Take it for what it's worth... Who the hell is that guy? If he's a scout, then why does he have NFL stuff all over the place?
  22. QUOTE (whitesox91403 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 09:24 PM) They can have him. My thought exactly.
  23. So we went from front runners to being where we were about 3 days ago. Sigh...
  24. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) On a side note, if we don't get Damon, I hope we take a serious look at Hank Blalock. I can't imagine he'll be too expensive, but he could function as an insurance policy, bats with the left hand, and he can play some infield, allowing for the possibility of less at bats for Omar Vizquel. How about Felipe Lopez...? He can play 2B, move Gordon back to 3rd, have Teahen and Jones DH.
  25. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) Looks like a deal revolving around D.J. Augustine (Bobcats) and T.J. Ford (Pacers) will be done soon. Finally, Augustine will get some more minutes.
