Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread

The Bulls shed contracts and got players who can replace the guys they traded away. Very good deadline I'd say. -
QUOTE (everafan @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) The year he won the MVP he was only slightly better than Konerko. Now that I look at it, this is actually very true. Jeter should have won the MVP that year.

Either Kenny's being confident about the press conference on Sunday where we announce the deal...or we ended up swinging and missing on this.

Kevin Martin's a nice player. -
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 11:36 PM) does this guy know anything? McPherrin His source is probably Johnny Damon's massage therapist.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 09:06 PM) The Lakers want Hinrich and are offering the expiring contract of Adam Morrison around. But they also need to trade Sasha Vujacic in a deal, so they're trying to find a 3rd team to do that and give an expiring deal back to the Bulls. Chances of that happening probably aren't very good. Although the idea of getting rid of these contracts is a great idea for the future, you might want to look at what's happening now. You don't just want to throw this season away. Kirk's a pretty big part of the team now that Salmons is gone. You want somebody in return who can replace a good amount of his production. I don't know if Morrison is capable of that. -
If anything, Damon takes away playing time from Mark Kotsay and Juan Pierre. It affects those guys more than Jones. That is unless Jones breaks out and produces like he did back in 2005.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) Salmons to Milwaukee for Kurt Thomas and Francisco Elson So I'm assuming we're going to be using Kurt Thomas to replace Tyrus' playing time when he's going to be dealt? -
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 07:19 PM) Well, playing the devil's advocate, wouldn't that be the point? Everyone seems so certain that it's not about the money. I thought it was always about the money. I think they know that the market right now isn't very strong, they want to see if they can cash in next year. Beltre signed a 1 year $9 million deal just to do that. He wants to explore a better market. Beltre was initially asking for 4 years and $40 million, he only got 1/4 of the years and money and he's fine with it. So it's still about the money, just not about the money at this moment.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 07:22 PM) Didn't Damon come out publicly and talk about how much he wanted to play for DET? How he thought he could help that team? I don't buy that he doesn't want to go there. Of course, I hope I'm wrong and he's in a Sox uni in a few weeks. Nobody was really interested in him at that point. I think that was to garner up some interest and remind everyone that Johnny Damon still existed.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) I think Boras is using us. Could be wrong, just a hunch. If he is, then why are guys within the Sox so damn confident about the deal?
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) I don't think this is going to happen. No playing time for either Kotsay or Jones. Oh noez, what do we do with Kotsay and Jones? They're like the best platoon of old players, ever!
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) Last Spring in an effort to get his autograph, i told Brett Lillibridge i though he had a good chance of staying on this roster. I lied. Unfortunately, your thought became a partial reality.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) Who among us could tell that cute little boy he couldn't be on our baseball team?! My god, the powty lips! We'd have to buy him a puppy to make up for it. He also has mickey mouse ears.
-
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) Damon is a tease, sign already! Anyway, the real question is, who goes from the 40 man roster if Damon is signed? My money's on Lillibridge, since he has Damon's number. Nobody wants him anyways...

Salmons wasn't doing much anyways. It frees up money and we can get something of okay value in return. Nice. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) My twitter response back to him (semi sarcastic of course) Haha lawl.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) do you guys realize how absolutely brutal it would be at this point if all the sudden we see @prosen or whateever say "damon signs with tigers"? Would be total 08 "CABRERA TO SOX?" moment only to find the tigers pulled it off. Or the 08 Torii Hunter to Sox thing...
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) If the present day value is $4.5M then that means there's probably another ~$2.5M differed. $7M makes an awful lot of sense even if 36% is differed. Ah I see. That's a good deal for Damon then. I'd definitely take it if I were him.

How much is deffered? Damon must really not like Detroit.

QUOTE (Cowch @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) At least I know I won't see House in the playoffs this year. I hate him and his face. hahaha. Rafer Alston agrees with you. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) SI_JonHeyman regarding rumors mrs. damon prefers chicago to detroit, johnny just texted: "But its up to me. She's going wherever I go.'' Johnny will be sticking to the good old internet for a couple of weeks because of that.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) The problem facing Boras if he did sign with the Sox is he would probably lose a pigeon in the Tigers. They have saved him many times. You have a very good point. Who else would have given Magglio all that money when he was injured...?
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) My only concern is why AJ, Damon, and Hawk share a son. link In the words of Jon Lajoie, they are "eskimo brothers".

This is getting serious.
