  1. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 14, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) I read that in the magazine. Tigers could have a better 1-3 (still don't think so) but there is no way a team has a better 1-5 than the Sox. Unless Porcello develops to strike more hitters out, he's most likely not going to have the same kind of year he had last season. Scherzer's a nice pitcher, but you won't see him be much better than his 4.12 ERA from last year. Counting on Hochevar to be good is also not a good bet.
  2. Lawl, Orlando Hudson made the Twins worse?
  3. For those without a PS3... What do you think of the MLB 2K10 info and videos that's leaked out? The game looks very promising this year. New player models, new lighting, new hitting and pitching system, most likely fixes all the bugs in last year's game, and a new mode like RTTS.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 14, 2010 -> 01:49 AM) That bridge could be rebuilt quickly, by him saying, "World Series MVP." Like Frank, he'll always be a Sox. But Frank played most of his career here. Jermaine's been here for 4 years, he spent more years with KC, Atlanta, and Oakland combined than here.
  5. QUOTE (Ranger @ Feb 14, 2010 -> 12:31 AM) It happens, but usually toward the end of the season to get a more favorable matchup when games are crucial. Or midseason if there are off days and a team with a weaker rotation wants to skip a 4 or 5. It does happen but it really doesn't happen that often. Off topic: What comic does your avatar come from Ranger? I know it's by Skanberg, but I can't seem to find it...
  6. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 13, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) what a travesty. . . seriously, no more dunk contests. Absolutely horrible.
  7. These two dunks in the finals have been such crap.
  8. I remember that game...it was so fail. Cameron and Boone kicked our ass.
  9. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Feb 13, 2010 -> 09:32 AM) Interesting http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/02/john...saturday-1.html Definitely... And Felipe Lopez just fired Boras.
  10. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 01:23 AM) Damon is not the superior fielder? I know Quentin has the better arm (obviously), but aren't we still worried about Quentin's plantar injury and reducing the stress he puts on it seems like a good idea. Not really. If we somehow do get Damon, which is a stretch, he'd split time at DH, LF, and RF.
  11. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) more importantly, do the Sox really need him? Is that even a question?
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) Hudson #2, Scherzer (sp?) is #3 I'd put Hudson and Scherzer before Pierre.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) I take it Aj and Damon are really tight? AJ is tight with somebody? This is new to me.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 05:18 PM) Just mentioned this on Sportscenter. Pierre is the top AL Central Acquisition for Olney. JD is one of the 3 biggest departures. God Kenny, just sign Damon so Becks, TCQ, and Paulie can have an RBI feast. Pierre, biggest acquisition? What is Olney smoking?
  15. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) Hmm a player may actually take less money!?!? Will AJ be a bigger influence than we all thought? I still he'll take the money. . I tell you what though.. . if he takes less money and less years to come here- i have a TON more respect for the guy. He wants less years, so that he can explore the market next year, that's the only thing that makes sense. The best place for him to succeed is here in Chicago, we have the most hitter friendly park.
  16. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:46 PM) I know they shed some salary from the Granderson deal, but I thought they did that because they needed to cut salary. I didn't expect them to spend $7 million/season (thats what im assuming) on a veteran like this. Plus, they're willing to overpay. They're buying into Boras' game.
  17. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Illitch ponied up. Maybe JR should too, considering our city's in much better financial shape than Detroit. Damon is well worth $7 million a year.
  18. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) i was hoping we'd sign LHP Will Startup Will he startup?
  19. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 04:17 PM) Check out Cubs anal! They get it like that every year and have been for the past 100 or so years.
  20. Does JD not realize that he can't play the outfield anymore?
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) I agree. I think had he tried, he could have gotten more value out of the Brewers, but that would have involved playing the waiting game, and he didn't want to have to wait and didn't beat around the bush. He got an offer that got him everything he needed and jumped on it. I also think when people look at the roster and mention how untalented it was, they are looking mainly at the offense. That rotation was stacked and it was the best defensive team of the decade (and probably quite a few more years beyond then). The bullpen had talent, but Politte, Cotts, and Hermanson came out of nowhere to have great years. At the same time, Marte had been a solid reliever for 3 years, Vizcaino was coming off of a solid season, and Takatsu was absolutely filthy the previous season; Marte was pretty terrible all around (3.77 ERA but with a 1.72 WHIP), Vizcaino was relegated to what seemed like mainly mopup duties after his blowup in April, and Takatsu bombed. It was the worst offense of any World Series winning team in the 00's though. That 05 team is something that we can hope for in this year's team. I just looked up Carl Everett's OPS that year - it was around .750, horrible for a DH. Just goes to show that you can win with some timely hitting and luck, which that team did and had a lot of. Only two regulars on that team had an OPS over .800 - Dye and Konerko, who posted .850 and .910 respectively. Quentin can be the guy who puts up the .910 and Konerko is still capable of putting up an .850. Beckham can easily out produce Iguchi's .780 from that season at 2B. Teahen can outproduce Crede's .750 or at least meet it (not the defense though, unfortunately). If you compare that team's offense with this team's, you can quite possibly say that this team could do better. If our rotation holds up and we get a couple of career years out of Pena/Linebrink/Putz, this team can go somewhere, even with a mediocre offense.
  22. QUOTE (everafan @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) Carlos Lee was traded to the Brewers for Podsednik and Vizcaino. Or have I completely lost my mind? Yup. That was a deal that would be hated if it were done right now. Lee made a lot of money, but what we got in return was pretty bad at that time.
