  1. QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 01:57 AM) Nick Johnson is signing a 1 year deal for 5.5M with the yankees pending a physical. How do we let him and Matsui, prime Lefty DH candidates go to other teams for so little. Neither the yanks no angels are overpaying for either of the two. Why cant the sox get those guys for a similar price, they are exactly what we need. Makes no sense. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/yank...ck-johnson.html I feel like we are being discriminated against.
  2. We already have our poor man's Mark DeRosa in Teahen.
  3. Atkins and Mike Gonzalez to Baltimore. Atkins gets one year, money is not clear at this point. Gonzalez gets 2 years and $12 million with up to $16 million with incentives.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 01:03 AM) Man, ESPN hates the Sox. During the coverage they listed the 1-2 Punches in starting rotations for MLB staffs. Mariners: Felix Hernandez, Cliff Lee Red Sox: Josh Beckett, Jon Lester Yankees: CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett Giants: Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain Cardinals: Chris Carpenter, Adam Wainwright Phillies: Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels How is Peavy, Buehrle/Danks/Floyd not on there? It's better than the Yankees (Burnett not bing that great), Phillies (unless Hamels returns to form), the Red Sox (I'd take Peavy over Beckett, and Danks/Floyd at times are just as good as Lester). /southsidebias Also, the Phillies made out like bandits in this trade...just wow. And Wallace on the move again keeps reminding me of how loaded the top of the 2008 draft was: Slayer, Posey, Wallace, Alonso, Smoak... I don't think most people know that the White Sox have 4 above average starters.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 12:07 AM) Correct me if I'm wrong, but at one point, he was one hell of a prospect, wasn't he? Ranked #8 in the Rangers organization in 2006. #9 in 2007. He wasn't great, but he was at least decent. He was drafted in the 46th round, so he kind of came out of nowhere.
  6. QUOTE (Real @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 11:12 PM) From Merkin's twitter: Pshh, free agents DO want to come here ! At one point, Botts looked like a decent prospect.
  7. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 11:31 PM) Pierre will lead off and Beckham will likely hit 2nd. Because Ozzie doesn't like going with 3+ righties in a row, expect Kotsay, Teahen, or (probably) AJ hitting clean-up. L Pierre LF R Beckham 2B R Quentin RF L AJ C R Konerko 1B R Ramirez SS L Teahen 3B R Rios CF R Jones DH Start planning the parade route. Oh god... A.J. might be the worst cleanup hitter in the history of cleanup hitters.
  8. No way. If we thought Bobby was bad, wait until we see Brad Lidge. Oh dear lawd.
  9. I just realized how bad our middle of the order would look if we didn't get a DH. 3. Quentin 4. Konerko 5. Rios 6. Pierzynski That's OMG bad. Is Ozzie really willing to live with a lineup like that?
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) I'll say this, a DH of Kotsay/Jones would be an epic disaster. You're certainly banking a lot on two aging veterans, that's for sure. However, the possibility of them producing isn't out of the question.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) It's the American League, since when is the bench really that important? I would have rather the 3.5 million we used on Kotsay/Jones/Vizquel gone towards getting a DH if the money is really that tight. You're talking about Ozzie here. He uses his bench far more than most AL managers.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:18 PM) Well, I just pray that Ozzie's not the one making decisions about our personnel. I said this earlier today, but if Pierre's the last impact player we add, this offseason has been an absolute disaster. I wouldn't say that. We strengthened our bench, most likely made late inning relief better, and came up with a marginal leadoff man. You can do a lot worse.
  13. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) I was referring to the article that Kenny said he doesnt want to do anything without his managers approval....i dont like the idea of going in with a rotation at DH from our bench either....lets hope Ozzie lets kenny work some magic I know, I was aiming that towards Ozzie. xD
  14. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) Ozzies Comments according to this article ozzie is satisfied passing around the DH role Just because Ozzie is doesn't mean Kenny or anyone else is. The DH position is a mess at this point.
  15. Since Carrasco is gone, would you guys be okay with Hudson as long relief our would you want him to be down in the minors starting to gain more experience?
  16. Good for them. I think this is a necessary move. Signing Holliday is a big deal for them.
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:39 PM) Yes and Hideki Matsui will get $10M a year. There's no way Crisp gets $8M guaranteed. Keyword.
  18. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) $3 million in 2010, $5 million in 2011. Good deal then. That's about what you would have had to pay Crisp, except Pierre isn't much of a health risk.
  19. So we're getting Juan Pierre for $4.5 million?
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-a...p&type=lgns AP source: Matsui, Angels reach agreement http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-r...p&type=lgns AP sources: Red Sox set to add Lackey, Cameron Cameron got that much money...?
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) Lee and Hernandez gives the Mariners like, the hands down best 1-2 punch in the playoffs. I'd still like to think the Sox have the best 1-2-3-4 punch though... Definitely one of the best along with Boston, now that they have Lackey.
  22. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) ur completely right. so the red sox are going to get gonzalez by giving them buchholz (and prospects) yet we would have to give up danks or floyd (and prospects) b.s. Typical Red Sox bulls***. Buchholz is vastly overrated.
  23. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) Bernstein is talking about Juan Pierre right now on the Score... Damn it... Well, Juan Pierre is better than nothing, depending on what we gave up.
